I understand why they don't keep it up to date, but it is kind of hilarious that 90% of the minions in the tutorial are still in the game mode and haven't been for years lol.
The whole time I was watching, I was flipping out that he wasn't upgrading the tavern. Lmao.

I got a bunch of nostalgia from the tutorial, original battlegrounds was flawed, but it was honestly one of the most fun betas of a game I've ever played
tutorial really ought to mention the discover minion from triples is based on your tavern tier
It also didn't explain what magnetic meant resulting in him not using it correctly while thinking the effect was going to work.

Worst thing about learning battlegrounds is trying to read everything while the rope's burning, I definitely remember that pain. It gets a lot more fun after learning the cards.

@@danang5 minion typing is not the problem with BG. It's an auto-chess, so RNG is part of the game. You weigh averages.

That first game impressed the hell out of me, people can whine about misplays all they want, but for someone with ZERO knowledge of the game or card effects he pulled together a really solid build and won against a person running the same tribe!
Mostly true, though note you start at rating 0, all of these players are playing their first game or have nfi what's going on in general.

@@Nastyn1nja808 Certainly none were smurfing. They were all playing terribly. Day 9 managed to cobble together a strategy, but it as well was not good. He repeatedly ignored when the game gave him cards he should have gone crazy for, kept not understanding to have the deathrattle-buff cards at the front, etc etc. I'm not criticising him for it. It was his first game after all, and he did fine given that. But to win while playing that sub-optimally did just mean that his opponents were playing on similar levels.
the thing is, he also makes very bad decisions within the limited info he already has. He can learn to play better with practice obviously but this is an indication he is not a talent and won't be 'great'
a factor is of course is his primary job here is to make funny content, he probably would do much better if alone and 100% focussed
@@Blackadder75 Reynor, one of the top professional starcraft 2 players started and lost games in bronze. If you've ever watched a pro level player learn a new game, you'd know no one is good off the bat. Particularly in a game which Daynine doesn't take seriously at all, it's just battlegrounds lol. He's never going to touch it again.
Ignoring all the backseaters, as someone who only plays battlegrounds since it came out, outside of a few random games or modes to finish a quest or something, it's really interesting to see the process of someone learning how each interaction works, what cards are permanent versus only in combat, things like that.
don't worry, as entertaining as it was, Day9 learnt mostly nothing and probably won't touch battlegrounds ever again :)) was still fun to watch tho
He went into it comparing it to other things, talking over the tutorial, looking away, manage to make himself annoyed by comparing it to stuff. He didnt go into this to honestly try the mode, he had already made up his mind about this. If you are in a tutorial, and decide how things work beforehand, assuming the entire intention is marketing and not gameplay, you setting yourself up for failure/ a massively slowed learning curve, as that info will be hammered into the user lmao
I really liked seeing him just as confused as I was when I first came back around when battlegrounds came out, and even now, anytime I play anything but battlegrounds.
Something he said has kinda changed the way I explain games to people though funnily enough, when someone tried to explain how a location is like an artifact, that doesn't actually help it hinders. You CAN explain it like that, but you have to understand both games at a basic level, and the person you are explaining it to ALSO has to know them at a basic level, and you have to explain interactions, not comparisons.

I was pointing out how he was the one making the comparisons, instead of going into it, seeing it as its own thing, hence hindering his learning curve cuz he kept projecting irrelevant data, like marketing which he kept making a point of earlier in the video atleast, claiming stuff was like it was only because of IP, when in actuality it had actual different mechanics, which if viewed as different, would let one use intuition to find features.
Example; Claiming gold is just mana - and getting visually annoyed with it, referring to his earlier marketing statement - when if he just saw it as gold, he could have assumed through intuition "ok so with gold I buy, that mean I can sell too?" etc.

Day9 almost got the spicy pretzel mustard achievement on his very first game… the only match he lost is when he intentionally griefed himself by leaving that deathrattle minion on his board to spite that guy in chat lol
The fact that he stayed at 30 health the whole time in his very first Battlegrounds game was impressive.
Well, 3 left on turn 1 and the rest were awful

I have been waiting for this for SO long... bg is the only form of hs that I play (even tho I haven't played in like 6+ months)
For me least played are BG (only when forced by event quest -.-) and arena
Bg is 'who has bigger dudes' mode, and its unfun to make them as big as possible in timelimit. I like to think about my turns a bit and the way bg changed overtime its just imposible.
Also kinda boring to watch, the reason is above, just repeat every turn of every game. Same reason i found autoches boring be4 HS made their own version

Don't know much about Day9s brood war history except that him and tasteless were playing at a high level very early on, tasteless tells a story about something, whether he was just getting home or doing something else but he just hears day9 yelling at the game like Arty does because he had just ran into 3 bbs's in a row
2:27:49 The damage is equal to the sum of the tiers of your tavern and your surviving minions. (That’s why you see stars appear on the minions after the battle, then fly to the hero to increase their attack.)
There actually is positioning to a degree. You can influence who attacks when by your order. What they attack also isn't entirely random.

Not sure what the Murazond play was intended to do, but I think the other guy was snowballing wildly so there probably was no way to win.
tbf based on some of the advice he's getting a lot of Day9s chat are also bad at battlegrounds lol

You do have sort of 2 (3 even) dimensional positioning in Battlegrounds, it's in the form of having the various kinds of shields, reborn and invisibility combined with normal minions.
Visually they aren't in multiple rows, but logically they are.
Is it strange that the best thing about this video is the nostalgia for those old minions, all of which (bar the micromachine) have been patched out over the years? It really takes me back.
Edit: On a side not, I've litterally been fed those day9 hearthstone compilation videos which include that dominant hand insult. Love it!

It is SO stressful (in the best way) to watch as someone else makes moves you think are the wrong ones, or watch them miss obvious 'good' moves...
Unironically, though, you did really well. I can't imagine it's easy to have a thousand backseaters trying to micromanage your gameplay while learning a new game.

Another cool thing with undead in battlegrounds is that they have a unit that summons a larger and larger man when it dies.

I accidentally clicked on the BG tutorial but I didn't have time for it so I had to disconnect. I lost access to the tutorial since. I was trying to find the tutorial after watching a little bit of Kripp. Glad this one came up. Now I have a better understanding of BG
Been watching all your welcome back vids, and just like many years ago… I’m almost entirely NOT playing the game and solely watching you play. I feel like with the way you play and comment on the game I’m playing in soul with you 😂 I LOVE your vids and have been watching since omg idk…. Since a 5 mana 4/5 draw a card with +1 spell damage and had a minion type was INSANE 😂

Haven't played Hearthstone for a long time, haven't followed Day9 for a long time. But somehow, watching Day9 play HS again just makes me feel a little fuzzy inside.
This is what we've been waiting for, constructed is giga ResidentSleeper in 2024.
So glad I was not there to watch this live. I'd probably have been timed out so many times from involuntarily trying to back seat the game.

I had no idea what the hell was going on when I first started playing Battlegrounds. It took my ages to learn there was a defacto curve plan.

I've only played Battlegrounds for the last couple years, because I don't need to sort through 100s of cards and 1,000s of mechanics to craft a relevant deck that will only remain relevant for a couple months.
In Battlegrounds,it's not pay to win.
I think he chosen worst time to try BG. BG currently definitely can't be under auto-chess genre, because game is not about adapting strategy to what he gets from shop, but APM game about applying his strategy in most optimal way he can. (What i mean is, that currently game is about executing combo as fast as possible in his turn before time runs out, instead of utilizing resources as much effectively as possible, before his funds runs out.)
Tbh battleground could be categorized as new sub mode of auto battler

Spells were added with Badlands BG, quests generally come in during the latter part of BG season before the next expansion BG pass

as someone who has played BG since it came out... it physically hurt to see him make so so so many mistakes... be it forgetting to use stuff or not leveling up or not paying any attention to proper ordering of upgrading tiers before playing triples nor the positioning of deathrattles so that they would trigger and give permanent buffs... but yeah was a good watch...

The thing about the difficulty of RTS in general is that every millisecond unspent at powering, scouting, harassing, expanding, is detrimental to your overall strength in the game. You could easily point at games that have have more complexity than Starcraft from various point of view, but none of them that aren't RTS can compete with the execution difficulty of a game that requires 100% of your attention and action at all time for 20+ min without interruption. You don't get the death cam or round resets of shooters to think, you don't get the walk from base back to your lane to calm down, you don't get a timer that pauses the game every turn for you to plan ahead. And you don't get a second chance for a mistake, you'll pay for it the entire game or until your opponent makes a bigger one.
tl;dr : In RTS, you lose tempo, you lose the game, you don't get a break to think on how to regain tempo unless your opponent is feeling particularly generous.

Really confused as to what Staff of Enrichment does and also about what Sean thinks it does.
It permanently increases the stats of all of the minions that are available to buy. Pretty sure he understood that, though he accidentally used a similar spell that only temporarily buffs the currently available minions once.
