I clearly remember a mate playing me Summerland of their Gretchen Goes to Nebraska album back in 1989. I've been a massive fan of these guys ever since.
3 guys based in Houston, Tx. I met Dug once backstage at a Missiles gig I was bass tech'ing at, really nice guy. Great musicians, very Beatles influenced, at least to my ear.
dUg Pinnick - bass, Ty Tabor - guitar, Jerry Gaskill - drums They all do harmonies and sing lead at least a few times. dUg is the lead voice on this song and Ty has a number of good ones where he's lead. In addition to the other recommendations made here, some good ones with different leads: "We Were Born to be Loved" is dUg's lead and some crazy syncopated instruments. "Mr. Wilson" has Ty on lead. It's a Beatle-esque trippy song featuring the fellow TX band Galactic Cowboys on 4-part vocal harmonies. "Six Broken Soldiers" is Jerry's lead in a characteristic KX heavy psychedelic showcase. You seem to dig the music, so I think you deserve to take the King's X journey. 👍
Certainly 90's, and the band is indeed very good live. Devoted fans and the band no longer sings one song, the fans sing the whole thing. I suggest the Live in London recording to see them live. They are still touring today, the same three musicians. There are albums worth of this quality of music, although this particular album in my favourite to play over and over. The song was written as a reaction to their tour with AC/DC through Germany the previous year.
If you want funky from KX, try Everybody Knows a Little Bit of Something… their biggest hit is Over My Head… a hard-driving song in Fool You… can’t lose with any of them…
The previous step was meditation, silent prayers and silent mantra chanting. The last step in manifestation is to speak it out. Your affirmations. Ty Tabor is a guitar god... and one of the nicest people you could meet (ditto dUG and Jerry also of course!). This riff is something that took me forever to play, it just screws with me. Summerland is also a monster riff.. I think you would love the Ear Candy album (1996) but the new album is also great (Three Sides of One)... and they are on tour! Great review (and this is 1992... so your ears are correct) here is a live version for ya... th-cam.com/video/h-NDjmZZAaw/w-d-xo.html
I love Kings X
DUg Pinnick is fantastic 😍
This song was released in 1992. It is from their self-titled fourth album.

I consider Gretchen one of the all-time great albums by anyone!
one of the best songs ever by anyone... th-cam.com/video/cBfshxZeI_4/w-d-xo.html (acoustic)
Such a unique band. I feel like nobody else sounds like King's X. They're their own genre. 👍🤟

Enjoy your journey into King's X... They're my Beatles... You'll keep being surprised the deeper you go into their catalogue...
Jeez, I had forgotten about Kings X! They were very good, thanks for reacting to them.
Exactly how I felt when I moved from the States to Germany in 92'. Good reaction.
Great choice! A King's X classic. Ty's early tone is one of the great heavy guitar sounds of all time.
This was originally released in 1992. I have no idea why they were not a bigger act as the album is great.
Ty Tabor on guitar! He's amazing and has some Solo stuff, as well.
One the the best unknown guitarists around... We who know.... know
3 of the most talented musicians and vocalists! Dug (bass), Ty (quitar), Jerry (drums), they all sing, Dug is the main. Listen to Summerland.
It's from 1992

This was the band that many 90s bands copied! They had this sound already in the late 80s. This particular song is from the early 90s.

The last step in manifestation is to speak it out. Your affirmations.
