When Bean can say, I'm moving into a new pad, that means literally. LOL! Love your weekly vlogs. Interesting to see the challenges you face and how you deal with them. I hope you get the moisture you need for hay!
So happy to see Bean on her new cushion. She looks more relaxed. Thanks for letting us ride along with you again on the weekly vlog. Always informative and entertaining.
Mike, you should always have cake in the back when you go out in the fields. This way the cows/steers will associate the Gator with food and follow everytime. 💘 🐂 🐐 🐔 🇺🇸
So glad Bean got a cushion. Thanks Susan for helping him to be comfy. Here in SW Indiana we just got about 8". I was so happy to see a real snowfall, but would happily do without if it meant you got that much needed moisture. Great vlog. Have a great evening.
Nice video Mike. I look forward to this every Sunday morning. You have definitely found your niche in life. A ton of responsibility but you manage it well!! Great job. Joe
I like your channel most out of the farming channels. You’re not just a TH-camr and doing things for clicks like some do. This is just a view into your daily life. I appreciate the authenticity.
Just cooked your sirloin roast and wow! You buy a roast from the grocery store thinking you can fed your family and the next thing you know (after all the extra fluids they inject into it cooks out) you have a much smaller chunk of meat to divide up. Not so with the OWL roast! We have enough for our total of six people to have a nice share of a delicious roast. And it's tender and full of natural good flavor! I have some adult family members who are now hoping to buy a box of OWL beef now. And a friend or two also!
As most farmers, I have a lot to get done, especially with the big snow fall, that limits my time to watch, but I can catch up later. Loved the camera for backing up to hook up goose neck trailers. I have more difficulty hooking up a bumper hitch, most don't use, but I have a lot of older trailers that still work good, so I keep them for cost effective savings. I did get to watch the grain bin build, you fellows did great. Bean did her part, keep them doggies rollin. I think Bean likes the mat. Great vlog, thanks for sharing, see you next time, have a nice week!
Bean is so precious, what a beautiful creature. Reminds me of my Uncles Dog from when I was a kid, his name was Duke (the dog ) I grew up with dogs so I miss them. Bean made the cows or steer being put in the cattle trailer in forms of boxes, feel better. But its the circle of life and a way of life. That Not responsible for injuries sign you have up, lol so I'd be going to hug cows at my own risk. lol Thanks for sharing.
When I had to back up our gooseneck I would put a black marker on point of trailer and a piece of tape on window and it made it easier to backup. Yes this woman has pulled a trailer or two. Lol
I remember you posting a state wide drought severity map last year. Buffalo and west wasn't in drought but an hour east where you are, you were D3. 60 miles made all the difference.
Now that y’all are cutting back so much on the farm you should expand your hunting business. One of Matt’s new jobs could be to host all the new hunters. He’s a natural.
Coming from the State of Oregon that produces the most timber in the US. I see no problem with the use of OSB vs Plywood. It's a lot cheaper and becoming popular with builders in this state. I know a lot of ranchers and wood companies using IBS tanks and the casings. Everybody have a "great" Valentine's day
I would love to come and spend some time with you and your family I'm from Alabama and love the farm life my dad taught me cause he had a farm and I miss him and the farm life it would be a dream for me don't have much but have love for the farm life
Suggestion get some velcro tape for BEANS bed come in 2 pieces with peel and stick backing just use care when installing so they line up I have found that if I leave both pieces together take backing off one side the one where want to stay then peel other side then place what I want to attach I my case I have used for outside my rv to mount solar security light it mounted to slide out next to door so when moving rv I can remove light so slide will retract the veco mount has proven to last well been there now 3hrs in the weather sun rain and snow
Chasing steers- have you considered installing a siren on your vehicle, like Reed Flake has on 'rodeo reed' channel? He has videos showing the training process. He sirens the cows when feeds cake out in pasture/ calves come with moms/ So when you need animals they will come to you, you do not have to chase them. Love your vlogs. Praying for your continued success.
Another great video. Sorting cattle can sometimes be interesting. Susan getting Bean that mat. I thought last week Bean needed a soft bed. Something that will make a big difference in the tractor ride. Mike, we pray you get some much needed moister. Thanks for sharing🤠
I definitely think Bean like this new bed in the tractor. Love your weekly vlog as always awesome job. Love getting to see how you run the ranch and the change yall are making to keep it running smoothly the way yall want it to run for yall's vision direct consumer which is what it needs to be and should be heading out the middle man, I love that. God bless yall.
I know you said you were ok with the five steers you chose, but could you make one more trip out to the other steers another day and possibly find another group to pick from? If not, you always seem to be able to take whatever situation you are handed and find a way to make it work.
I love hearing that someone can build with OSB and it’s a good long term option. In my part of Texas even painted OSB starts warping and rotting in two years in my experience. Great video as always Mike
For some reason I couldn't shake a song that you introduced to us from my mind; "May You Always Have Cows Around" by Corb Lund I believe. Anyway I love some of your endoendos like the steers would only have the, "one bad day" and "freezer camp," speaking of their eventual day to enter happy cow heaven. In any case I hope that considering all the changes at the ranch that the atmosphere as it appears in your vlog is a little more calming, a little more secure and on you go towards a successful future.
You need a small arrowquip shute and a round pen on this side of the road. That one calf thought he was part goat playing king of the hill on the pile of snow.
2 ideas for you. Are there any grain farms between where you are and where you take your meat in Sturgis? Some of those old combines had pretty handy grain tanks, that make good feed storage. The other idea is, if you could get a center lift gate out of the back of a grain truck, they make great doors for feeding out of a wooden bin like you built.
Interesting to watch you adapt to the recent change in the ranch direction. Must be hard but there will be a new farm path or business model found for sure. You say it best, we work with what we have and are doing what we think best. Drought looks to be a fact if life for the future. Hopefully your viewers are mostly supportive and others, the critics need to understand that OWL is not a how to farm but the way you do it. Positive suggestion only, please. Thank you, take care and God bless. Maybe some good luck too.
My name is Mike too. I use my wife's account on here. I love what you guys are doing. I hope and pray that the transition goes through without a hitch. I didn't get the opportunity to get my great grandparents farm when it was sold. I do have a question. Aside from your really big tractors, have you ever looked into automatic gates in certain areas of the farm? The ones you drive up on and the gate goes up. Would help save time and be more efficient. Anyway, will watch you guys tonight. Bless
Mike if you take 5 steers to freezer camp every 2 months, that's 30 steers a year. Do you ever think you will have to take heifers too??? Great weekly vlog.
LOVE the weekly vlog……LOVE the new pad for Bean- much more comfy! Sure do hope you get moisture, whether it be rain or snow….or both. You need that hay! Just a tidbit of info….it’s 1:34 a.m. Sunday night, actually Monday morning…..I am in bed, just watched the vlog, and we have icy weather due today, and tomorrow, Tuesday, another 3-6” of snow., here in Maine. Question: how does one find out how to order jerky from you? Can beef items be sent to Maine? Keep up the great work. We depend on all the hard work you do for us! God bless, Bev in Maine.
As usual a another good video Mike. Thanks for showing us the way of life on your ranch. Without someone like you we would may never know. Have a great week. ❤🙏
When I hook my gooseneck trailer up I use a bungy cord with a piece of cloth tied close to where the hitch needs to be. Works 90-95% of the time. The only time when it does not work is when I placed it wrongly. I will look in to what you have
By me estimation, sooner or later they are gonna have had enough of me and say its time for you to go to Chicago! LOL On the other hand, Erin has been keeping me fed real well!
Would it be possible to time stamp the progression of some of your daily Vlogs? This would allow the viewers to see how long a task will take. For example. The day that you sorted the steers. Time zero would occur when you started the task. The next time stamp would be when you started to drive out into the pasture. The next time stamp would be when you arrived at the steers. The next time would be when you get the steers to the corral. And ‘so on’ until the task is completed. I realize that you probably do not record the Vlog from start to finish. The time stamps could be estimates.
Mike, my understanding is that the traditional feed lots have to add antibiotics to the the regimen when they finish cows due to the high corn percentage in the feed causing acidosis. Is that a concern in your operation when finishing? If so, how do you contend with that issue?
Mike. When Jeff gets back you can put Matt and Jeff to work as a team to do the primary (nuts and bolts) ranch work and you could focus on the teriyaki, the halves and the wholes. Your employees should really be doing the daily stuff like watering, feeding, and calving etc. That way you can focus on the making money 💰 part like the teriyaki. Also Matt and Jeff should do the moving of the cattle. Mike, you really need to focus on the profitable aspects like the finishing into teriyaki and selling and shipping of quarters.
I'm sure you have explained this question on a video I have missed, but I'm curious about the really big hills I'm seeing in the background. They almost look Man made.
If you get rid of five head of cattle every couple of months are you worried about running out of the herd or will the baby calves come along soon enough
Jerkys -- you can make some football game favors basket ball game favors baseball game favors and hockey game favors. If you do the marketing right, the jerkys alone will keep you busy forever.
Do you need any permits to sell beef in your store or online? I was thinking about doing the same in my state, but didn't know the in's and out's of the whole thing. Thought I'd ask before I actually pursue this whole thing. Wanting to buy some bull calves this Spring.
Awww! You can tell that Bean LOVES her new fluffy blue cushion!
Proud of mike erin changing the business model from cow calf to steer direct plus all the rest they do
When Bean can say, I'm moving into a new pad, that means literally. LOL! Love your weekly vlogs. Interesting to see the challenges you face and how you deal with them. I hope you get the moisture you need for hay!
Thank you very much!
So happy to see Bean on her new cushion. She looks more relaxed. Thanks for letting us ride along with you again on the weekly vlog. Always informative and entertaining.
I love Matt being on. He's adorable.
Really e joy the videos I’m 67 yr old widow and would love to have lived on a farm continuing to dream!!! 😂
Mike, you should always have cake in the back when you go out in the fields. This way the cows/steers will associate the Gator with food and follow everytime. 💘 🐂 🐐 🐔 🇺🇸
So bean was definitely happy with his new bed in the tractor. He was laying down and looked more relaxed.
I love Matt! What a lovely character, can't wait to see what else you both get up to
Great job Mike with Matt. Glad Bean is happy with his new comfy bed. Thanks for sharing!
Our pleasure!
Hope you have a wonderful day.
Hi you all! God bless you and keep safe 🙏 ❤ 🙌 ✨ 💕 💛 🙏
Love my Sunday morning at the Ranch. Hello to the whole family 😎
Great to always see what your up to thanks for always keeping us updated
So glad Bean got a cushion. Thanks Susan for helping him to be comfy.

What a hoot. Good for you Bean.

Bean you got a nice comfy bed for your ride, how nice 👍
So love ❤ your weekly vlogs Mike. You qnd Erin are going to kick butt this year looking forward to the ride. God bless.
Furniture Warehouse auto lockout dog
Awwww, Bean looks so comfortable. People are so thoughtful 🤠
Great video Mike & Matt! Thanks for always keeping life real!
Thanks Carrie, Mike is a patient man having to deal with me all the time!
Stay warm and safe and God bless you guys
Just love your weekly vlogs, very interesting and you looked like you were in heaven when feeding and riding with Bean
I like your channel most out of the farming channels. You’re not just a TH-camr and doing things for clicks like some do. This is just a view into your daily life. I appreciate the authenticity.
"Moving Calves is like Moving Cats" 😆 🤣 😂
Nice looking hay, good color.

Oh, Bean loves that cushion on his tractor chair. She looked more relaxed. Asking the lord for snow for you.
That steer was playing King of the hill. Lol
And, as always, praying for rain and snow so you can have a decent hay crop. I keep checking the forecast for something other than sun and wind....
I remember you posting a state wide drought severity map last year. Buffalo and west wasn't in drought but an hour east where you are, you were D3. 60 miles made all the difference.

Morning Mary!
What a nice gift for Bean!
Thank you for the vlogs brother!!
Pray for rain or snow Mike lots
Looks like your horses are doing the pushing of the steers!
A big task you both have to get everything done
Chasing steers- have you considered installing a siren on your vehicle, like Reed Flake has on 'rodeo reed' channel? He has videos showing the training process. I love this website. Your voice is something else. Did you ever think about doing voice overs? I know when would you have time.
Another great video. Sorting cattle can sometimes be interesting. Susan getting Bean that mat. I thought last week Bean needed a soft bed. Something that will make a big difference in the tractor ride. Mike, we pray you get some much needed moister. Thanks for sharing🤠
‘Freezer Camp” Sounds like so much fun. If they only knew 😂
I definitely think Bean like this new bed in the tractor. Love your weekly vlog as always awesome job. Good Morning to Our Wyoming Life and all others too. Happy Sunday everyone. Nice work Mike and great video God Bless You All😊😊😊
You can also use Velcro to hold the dog bed in place
I love your Farmers First flag! ❤️ 🇺🇸 Thank you for all you do!
I know you said you were ok with the five steers you chose, but could you make one more trip out to the other steers another day and possibly find another group to pick from? If not, you always seem to be able to take whatever situation you are handed and find a way to make it work.
Musical steer. I like it

I believe that song is on OWL's Spotify playlist. I've herd it alot lately. 😀

the cow of the mountain of snow... lol
what a weirdo! lol I don't know what he was doing
I really like that hay feeder or what ever it is called . And the red cow must be half goat .
I meant stear sorry .

I vote for a t-shirt with you, Matt, and Jeff on it as the Godfathers. :) Posing in a full picture not just the faces.
More jerky! Yay 😊 Curious why I have not seen the teriyaki flavor available?
I was thinking the same!
My name is Mike too. I use my wife's account on here. I love what you guys are doing. I hope and pray that the transition goes through without a hitch. I didn't get the opportunity to get my great grandparents farm when it was sold.

I would love to be a fly on the window for your conversation on your Stergis trip.
Hi Dufe. ,! He's so pretty!
It's so funny how they all fallow you! Your like the piped piper of cows! Lo
To bad you can't have snow hauled in!
Oh Wow Bean looks comphy now ! That was very nice for that person to send !
So true!
Mike if you take 5 steers to freezer camp every 2 months, that's 30 steers a year. Do you ever think you will have to take heifers too??? Great weekly vlog.
Well we have enough steers now to get us through.
LOVE the weekly vlog……LOVE the new pad for Bean- much more comfy!

I was thinking it would be nice if the hustler was just a 3 point attachment. so you don't have to deal with a trailer
As usual a another good video Mike. Thanks for showing us the way of life on your ranch. Without someone like you we would may never know. Have a great week. ❤🙏
Thanks 👍

Great idea!
Moving calves when you have been feeding them cake n cubes, like you have from the gator, sure makes moving them so much easier.👍
Oddly, we have never fed those steers cake :)
ahh where is all of the snow! This is getting scary once again!
Is matt living there now full time? I hope so hes a great addition to the channel.
Matt is vacationing for an indetermined amount of time :)
By me estimation, sooner or later they are gonna have had enough of me and say its time for you to go to Chicago! LOL On the other hand, Erin has been keeping me fed real well!

Mike, my understanding is that the traditional feed lots have to add antibiotics to the the regimen when they finish cows due to the high corn percentage in the feed causing acidosis. Is that a concern in your operation when finishing? If so, how do you contend with that issue?
That is correct, we are not feeding pure corn which helps. We do work with a vet and hopefully controlling any issues we have.
You need bait in the back of the Gator. CAKE!!! THEY'LL COME!!!
So the grain hopper seen in background at 7:48 was the prototype for the one you were discussing building? Lol
Editing... Not everything is always in chronological order.
I like this guy

Then I have nothing to make videos about :) and you have nothing to watch :)
I get the strangest feeling that you are fond of teriyaki!
Jeff, You do know that they are volunteers, not employees? Mike & Erin know what they are doing.
@@1jmass I like the teriyaki. It’s tasty.
That heavy wind was like money falling from the sky for some folks.
Thanks for sharing, Mike. -EZ
I bet!
If you feed them some corn for a few days in the pasture then they will follow you for the feed
Is Jeff going to be back at the ranch come spring?
Don't know
@@OurWyomingLife 🙏❤ Thank you for responding!
Moving stears bring cake! Lol
Now a plan is in place,it is better.
How is the drought situation? Not sure how the snow amounts have been this winter so far
I really wish I could find a way to send you some of our rain #washingtonstate
I'm sure you have explained this question on a video I have missed, but I'm curious about the really big hills I'm seeing in the background. They almost look Man made.
Couple o' ?'s that you or maybe a viewer can answer. How many acres is the ranch? Do you also lease more acreage / how much? Thanks.
hope u can grow some grass this year
Keep up the good work Amigo
Thanks, will do!
What did they weigh? They don’t look like they are ready for the locker yet but maybe the camera makes them look smaller than they are.
If you get rid of five head of cattle every couple of months are you worried about running out of the herd or will the baby calves come along soon enough
There sure is a lot of out buildings on the ranch must have been two ranches at one time
Jerkys -- you can make some football game favors basket ball game favors baseball game favors and hockey game favors.
If you do the marketing right, the jerkys alone will keep you busy forever.
Bean is now a spoiled puppy.
Do you need any permits to sell beef in your store or online? I was thinking about doing the same in my state, but didn't know the in's and out's of the whole thing. Thought I'd ask before I actually pursue this whole thing. Wanting to buy some bull calves this Spring.
