    I bring double heavies on my missions. Zhang takes the left, The Argentinian from the tutorial takes the right. Recently, a sectopod was in a room full of Muton, my bioelectric skin assault told me their position. Zhang fired his shredder rocket, and unsurprisingly, 3 wounded mutons stacked up a shooting gallery in an elevated position, 3 side by side. My suppression danger zone mayhem heavy had a 20% chance to hit any one of them, but he suppressed the middle Muton to kill all three, allowing my double rapid fire assaults to take down the sectopod before it could take a single shot

    2:08 Other reason is that most of the time, (personal experience) you won’t use supression,
    It’s very niche, when you get to ammo conservation, it’s a tad bit better but I usually prefer to take the chance to shoot at an enemy rather than suppress,

    Something to note: Mindfray and Rift get improved damage from HEAT Ammo. Mindfray works on Mechtoids, and Rift is great against Sectopods. For once, you took the exact same skills than me! I only use rockets when a soldier or a Meld cannister is at stake. So I want my two rockets to count instead of having three...

      ElodieHiras Hm, that's cool. I wouldn't have thought about Rift having double damage. I think I'll Volunteer my 103 Will Heavy in my South America file and try that out. I wonder if the rift can knock out two Sectopods like a rocket could.

    there used to be a way to get suppression to deal 3 dmg when combo with something else and with heat ammo it just rips robots for like 9 10 dmg

    After playing Xcom 2 and coming back to this again, I marvel at just how frigging powerful most of these heavy skills are, especially at lower levels, not to mention the rockets themselves, which are a lot more powerful than the grenades the heavies get in Xcom 2, and heavies are still the most powerful class at low levels in Xcom 2 as well imo.

    I must agree though, the only reason i picked Shredder Rocket is because it'll give me extra rocket.

  • @danielzsigmond2518
    @danielzsigmond2518 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Shredder Rocket is a wicked option with suppression..its not just "another rocket" with a little bit weaker damage. Its also greatly increases your overall team's damage-output. Softening up the alien group with it, throwing a grenade then send in the assault to grind the flesh... I like ambushes but on Classic they are more dangerous and you have to be extra careful. When shit happened suppressive fire saved my ass many times or prevented the shit escalating..

    Lol at 5:45 :) Also, I'm started XCOM over again, thx to Steam Summer Sale :) This time, I'm in Iron Man mode. Firing a rocket is probably the thing I reconsidered the most since I played last time. Normally you're using that ability to survive desperate situations, but in Iron Man, there is a 10% chance that either it will do no good or it will downright kill your whole squad with one shot. That is a risk I'm too coward to take most of the time... =/ Also having injuries early in the game means instant death to your squad. I had an extract mission where you must extract the surviving Exalt guy early on. I've kill a thin man and accidentally moved in to the mist with my civilian, he suffered 1 damage. Next to him I had two soldiers in partial cover. Witnessing the horrible poisoning for 1 dmg, they instantly crapped their pants - one of them shot a clip into a third guy, and the other one moved out of cover, and into the mist...so there you go. A rookie or squaddie with 50 will will commit suicide if you're gonna sneeze next to them...

      If you can kill your whole squad with your own rocket you made a whole lot of mistakes long before you ever reached that point

    For the games where none of your recruits are rolling Support and your 1st Support got can opened by 3 straight Thin Man crits....
    ....we bring you Holo targeting and Suppression. Now you can have a Heavy pretend to be a Support until you get an actual Support.

    I personally have a heavy with suppression so I can have that and me pinned down while I capture it with my assault units

    Where did you get this skin for your heavy? Is it exclusive to enemy within or also available in enemy unknown?

  • @pierat3338
    @pierat3338 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok I'm sorry I refuse to accept this shredder rocket does not overrule suppression in any way, becuase 1. Your point about support having it is invalid becuase if memory serves the other choice is sprinter, three tiles of extra movement. You have to be sat right next to someone to apply a medkit, it's a win-win situation 2. Suppression saves lives if someone is exposed then you can basically give them half cover from a single target which might be all you need to avoid injury entirely
    Edit: I stand corrected it is not sprinter it is revival which is still far more useful than suppression if not more useful than sprinter

    It is unfortunate that Mayhem does not improve grenade damage. Combine that with Grenadier and the Foundry project that lets your team have 2 item slots (an extremely useful project that's worth the investment straightaway), you could have 4 grenades with extra damage. Alas, it does not work this way.
    As for your logic behind Bullet Swarm, yes it is very good. But Holo Targeting is also extremely useful in the fact that it provides aiming for the rest of your squad; you argued it wasn't that beneficial, but if you have good team synergy it becomes one of the best abilities for the Heavy class, simply because the Heavy is the unspoken Support class. Literally 1/3 of my squad (with a 6-man team) is snipers who rely on hitting their opponents and are honestly my proverbial point-guards, while the rest can benefit from aiming as well without the need of a scope (which gives the exact same aim benefit). Basically, I use my heavy first to "mark" an enemy. This is extremely beneficial when fighting higher-level enemies. Hit or miss, my teammates benefit from my Heavy's Holo-Targeting. At later difficulties, it still retains its usefulness if your team is a well-oiled machine that synergizes with each other. Speaking of machines, you are absolutely correct on the HEAT Ammo. Robotic enemies are a bitch late game.

      @TheBeeNee101  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Psionic Phazon Holo-targeting certainly has it's uses, and is especially useful if you're bringing lower ranked troops along on mission. If find that during the latter portion of the game, my troops have good enough aim to hit enemies with ease anyway - most aliens don't last more than 1 turn

    • @QrazyQuarian
      @QrazyQuarian 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheBeeNee101 I can see that argument. It's preference, really. I'm not saying you're wrong or anything. I suppose I'm finding the Holo-Targeting extra useful because I'm currently going through the Second Wave option that makes it so troops have randomized starting stats and random stat increases. For a sniper late level with only 70 aim without scope assistance, I'm gonna take my Heavy to tag along. But bullet-swarm combined with HEAT Ammo is devastating against robotic enemies, I will give you that. It's better to have multiple soldiers of every class prepared with different abilities for situational encounters.

    • @QrazyQuarian
      @QrazyQuarian 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      And by the way, I have no idea what I did to anger the d20 gods to get a bunch of snipers with such shit aim. Haha Last time I have both of those Second Wave options at the same time.

      Psionic Phazon This might be a bit late but with bullet swarm you can hunker on the second turn and with grenadier you can have two ghostnades for the price of 1

    • @ikemart5119
      @ikemart5119 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Psionic Phazon I think it doesincreas damage. I found I could get 6 damage out of alien nade with grenadier. I agree holo-targeting is good for supporting low level troops

  • @vladildikan

    I gree on most of this but I always take supression/danger zone/mayhem as it grants a guaranteed 3 damage with no rng whether enemies(plural) within the danger zone move or not once you've got the plasma minigun. Full squad of six colonal rank heavy suppression does 18 damage before heat ammo and the volley of half a dozen full attacks if they decide to move will devastate just about anything. Oh, and if you want to double down on supression holo-targeting applies to that too(though I still prefer bullet swarm most of the time).

  • @RolfCJ
    @RolfCJ 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Rockets are nice and all, but they have atleast a 10% chance to fire in the wrong direction.. Possibly hitting multiple teammates for 8+ dmg. Suppression nullifies enemies in Overwatch, and is overwatch on the suppressed enemy! Rapid Reaction has saved me many times.. But i tend to run different squads, and sometimes 2 Heavy.. Its very useful.Danger Zone is great is your building rockets, but even suppression has an AoE! Mixed with Mayhem, once you have Lazer/Plasma weapons.. WOW!

    Rocketeer actually gives an extra shredder rocket even though it doesn't explain this in the ability description. Take shredder rocket and this to get 4 rockets (not 3). Better yet equip a blaster launcher and have 4 seeking explosives that can't miss and don't need line of sight
