I’ve spent a lot of time writing about my frustrations and the questions of my life. My worry of the future and what it holds or doesn’t hold. My doubts and fears. I think it was a good and necessary step for me, helping me love the darker parts of myself I hadn’t really known before. Cynical and hopeful. Optimistic and negative. Confident and insecure. Dissatisfied and content. I’ve wavered between these emotions for as long as I can remember. One side always there to remind the other not to get too comfortable. I wrote Made It This Far about celebrating my story. Coming out on the other side of that fog, and seeing a little bit of light again. A reminder of my strength that held me together through all of the twists and turns that got me to today. I hope this song can be an anthem for you to remember that for yourself. We’re all doing the best we can to keep pushing through and choosing to see the good; To see how far we’ve come, instead of how much further we have to go. Thanks for all the love on this song, so happy to share it with you 🙏🏻
It really is an impressingly expressive song. The heroic feel of the (post-)chorus really matches the statement that proudly prevails: "I've made it this far." Very impressive, very meaningful. I also really like the first two lines the first verse starts on, as well as "don't trade the best for something better". It is important to remember that one does not need everything to be happy. The contrasts in this song are very unique, first the start of the second verse after the first chorus, and then afte the second chorus the bridge. The latter is especially exeptional for its really opposingly 'down' feel to the uplifting chorus, and yet it fits perfectly in. There aren't many songs with incredible contrasts like this that still manage to keep the song in unity. It is truly astonishing how well the parts of the song are held together. It follows a classic pop structure, but has way more variety and expression than usual pop songs. It is unique, intriguing, amazing, impressive, expressive, whatever... I think it is about as close to a perfect song as one can possibly get. Some little things I also like: the sound of the instrumental in the intro, the break at the start of the first verse, the simple yet well-fitting drum pattern, the break in the third chorus, and again: the bridge. It got me really overwhelmed.
Way to go Katelyn! Figuring out things like how to live in the moment, not take things for granted, and enjoy what you’ve got and who you are is quite the accomplishment for someone as young as you. You’ve got a wonderful voice and a great perspective. Thanks for being brave enough to share it with the world. Keep challenging yourself and you will help a lot of people on the journey of life.
