Hey Harry! I'd forgotten about this till I saw your video pop up in my subscriptions. I'm really glad you enjoyed the pencils and thanks for reviewing them! Really enjoyed your review too. I have a small 12 pack of these and you're quite on the nose about its vibrancy and layering abilities. I believe there was a paper that came with the tube with info on the names (in japanese i think) though I'm not too sure. Wishing you and your father all the best and take care.
Thank you for a terrific review. Many people have come to enjoy the process of creating artwork whether it be their own or as colorist. I just read a review today written by a 73 yo woman confined to a nursing home. Her review showed how much enjoyment she was getting from school grade pencils and adult coloring books that fit into her limited budget. I’ll never be a professional artist but coloring and attempts at creating my own drawings is so enjoyable. Prayers for your father and family . May he have a great outcome from his treatment.
Hi Harry, I've had my eye on these pencils for sometime and was thrilled when I saw your review. I'm so pleased that you've provided more information about them and raised the point about the huge difference in pricing (which has put me off). Anyway, decision made and ordered from Muji...I'm delighted and looking forward to working with them. thanks :)

Great video! I bought these pencils about a year ago, there is a muji shop in Guildford near where I live, they sell lots of weird and wonderful things and I had a 20% off voucher so I thought I'd buy these pencils and I really like them. It's great seeing you review them. I always thought you were a professional artist. You have an amazing talent and could make a great living as a professional artist. 🎨👨🎨🎨
I have these I got them at the Muji store in Portland, Oregon. They are a very nice fun pencil! Great job Harry...hope all is well with you and your family 😎
I bought them some years ago,and I was so pleased by their softness and smoothy leads, and by the vibrant and rich variety of shades! I wish they came out with a bigger set! They reminds me to the Derwebt Coloursoft and a half to the Karisma pencils... I remember I felt like a secretly lucky winner for finding out that wonderful colored pencils for such a good price , when nobody gave a penny for them 😂😎
Thanks Harry, enjoyed it as usual. I like Muji. They have stores in few cities outside of Japan. I haven’t tried their colored pencils but next time I go there I’ll do. They usually have few boxes to try.
Quick tip: you're probably best off buying Muji stuff directly from them. They have web shops in a whole bunch of countries now, including UK (and, importantly for me, Sweden 😅). They're probably going to have the best prices, especially compared to any middle man. I love Muji overall, but for some reason didn't even consider their coloured pencils. It's a great brand and I'm a big fan of their stationery, but I guess I never considered them for art supplies. I should've known better than to doubt them, it seems like Japanese brands just really don't disappoint 😅 The 36 set is around £21 on their Swedish webshop and they have a half size set at half the price, but instead of it being 18 pencils, they're 36 half-length pencils. I might get that set, it's a really inexpensive way to try a lot of colours!
Really good review. Slight misuse of language in opacity. Opaque, dense not able to be seen through, translucent, being able to see through. Some colours were either more opaque or translucent depending on use of word. The blue was very opaque, the green was very translucent or less opaque, it had less opacity. Please do not think I am criticising, it's just for going forward using right term as your vids are so helpful.
I always appreciate help with spelling, language and grammar, I am Dyslexic and so everything I write I have to edit before I send it, from time to time I do use the wrong words as well which is a mixture of my dyslexia and the vast amount of medication I take for my disability. I am getting better with spelling and grammar but i don’t think I will ever be able to just write something and publish it without having to run it through apps and software I use for dyslexia or getting my wife to check my writing over. I will definitely be more careful, I got another correction from a subscriber this week for writing “Never the less” rather than nevertheless, so I will spend the weekend checking articles I have published and make sure I correct this simple mistake that a primary school kid wouldn’t make. To be honest, my dyslexia and my inability to read properly, spell or write at school helped me make my decision to join the British Army. The way I looked at things, I didn’t kneed to know how to read and write to go to war. I was actually wrong about that but nevertheless I found something I was perfect at, I was one of the best soldiers in my Battalion, because I loved the army so much, my life was Special Forces; reading, writing and spelling didn’t really matter to me, so long as I knew how strip a weapon, clean it and use it to the best of my ability, that was all that mattered. But when I suffered my injury and was medically retired, I focused everything on our kids. I didn’t want them to be like me and so I spent so much time learning with them when they had homework’s plus I would read as much as I could to improve my vocabulary etc. Any way thank you so much for your help and I will try my best going forward.
The Art Gear Guide I hope you were not offended. I am lucky not to be affected by Dyslexia. People don't realise it affects many things like sequencing and memory as well as how you see words and sometimes numbers. It's in my family. I love reading and writing and am ok at editing, all were very important in my work. If you ever need assistance, I would be happy to proof read for you. Thank you for serving our country.
Thank you so much for the support and advice you gave me. Maybe someday I could send you a set of coloured pencils that I use and is found in Belize and maybe you can Review them? Because I always been curious what another pencils artist think of the coloured pencils I used.
Made by Dawn You are most welcome Dawn, I have to admit, there is a selfish element to me helping people and that is the satisfaction and gratification I receive. I love being in a position to help others. I would absolutely love to review some pencils that you use, but I don’t want you to use your money to buy them and send them. If you contact me privately and let me know the cost, I can PayPal you the money. I want to make sure that The Art Gear Guide caters to not only to artists, student grade artists, young up and coming kid artists and. Hobbyists, but to artists all over the world. I know this will be difficult because it is difficult to find out about foreign brands that I don’t actually know about. Thank you so much Dawn for you wonderful comment
a bit of a meh or so-so colored pencil for me unless one is skilled at using coloring and blending techniques then even a cheap or knock-off so-so brand can reproduce a wonderful piece of art
