@@craigboden9455 I would skip icewind dale 1 and just go strait to Icewind dale 2. It uses D&D 3.5 I believe which adds feats which mixex up the battles a whole lot.
Story wize icewind dale ,apperantly, is crap compared to Baldurs gate 2 and so on, but I feel the story is fine and strait forward. You can build your party how you will and there are even some premade ones that has some back story to it. Your mission is simple: Break the siege of Targos as you enter the town by boat. Once that is done you get various missions that will send you on different locations. Its simple and easy to follow. Gameplay is where icewind dale 2 shines. But personally there so many cool story moments in icewind dale 2 that I cant believe how many people downplay it. Mocking Orcs in the first part of this game is so funny ive had drick pouring out of my nose at replays, I just cant get over it.
This game was made at the very end of Black Isle lifetime and was made in a hurry because of dead lines and yet the end results is imho amazing. Actually.... I think I`m am gonna install it right now :D

It was a medieval Deus Ex with the Might and Magic brand slapped on it which it had no connection with at all. Made by some ex-Thief/SystemShock/Deus Ex developers that were previously at Looking Glass and Ion Storm who then joined Arkane.
Basically everything they did back to Ultima Underworld qualifies under "didnt get the recognition it deserved". Even though the "Looking Glass" influence is now a part of nearly every single modern game that gets made regardless if the devs are aware of it or not..

I feel that it may be a bit of a tall ask for a sequel to come out, given the overall kind of weird commercial status of the Might and Magic franchise as a whole and this game not really fitting that comfortably alongside the other games.
That being said, a spiritual successor that reinstates some of the absolutely bonkers ideas from the series would probably do really well nowadays.
I feel like the emergent gameplay and physics-based slapstick shenanigans would have made the game a hit if it were released a couple of years later when TH-cam and Twitch had hit their respective strides.

I think one of the problems was the franchise; departing starkly from a franchise's niche often puts a game under the microscope. If it was just a random game by Arkane people might have been more lenient. It's like... imagine there hadn't been a Starcraft game in years, and suddenly one comes out and it's a totally different genre. The pressure on it to be perfect in every way is way higher than if it was just a random game with a different name.

Honestly, most of these old games can be run in higher resolution, and you can force your GPU to run AA and anisotropic filtering to clean up the image, on top of any mods that may add a small QoL adjustment. Every old PC game has had someone try and release a tool or adjustment to fix it up on github at some point. If nothing else, there are usually guides or forums that detail how to crack open some of the files and adjust things ourself to get everything running as smooth as it felt on release.
I've been going back and playing not just the games I missed out on when I didn't have a gaming PC from 07-2015, but all the ones I missed or only ever had a Demo for (Like No One Lives Forever 2, which I now love more than I ever loved the first one). I started making new levels for quake using Arcane Dimensions and fancy texture wads. There is so much to do in classic gaming communities lately. Some communities just never died and have been making new content for their games for 20 years or more.
What I'm saying is screw remakes. The problem with games nowadays is they dont do anything new and just rely on what has already been done a million times before. Dont give companies money for rehashing a classic, play the classics again. They definitely deserve the love more than some company that found a way to score the rights to make a re-release. Except maybe Nightdive, they're actually preserving some games that need preserving.

Unlikely to ever happen, since the Might and Magic franchise as a whole fell off hard after this game was released, to the point a lot of the fanbase of the original and spinoff Heroes series actually blaming this game for killing it.
But the far likely cause is just apathy, since even the most recent release, Might and Magic 10, was all the way back in 2014, and reception can be best described as "eh." The game wasn't all that good, and as far as I can tell, no one really cares anymore, especially Ubisoft, who own the IP still.

I played this game the year it came out. I had saved up enough money from my first couple jobs to buy my first gaming pc and was so psyched to try this. And dang i loved it. I remember just being in awe of the visuals and physics at the time, and the big twist in the story had just enough foreshadowing that it made me feel clever to realize it juuuuust before the characters did. The undead were creepy, the beds of nails duct taped to every wall were always put to good use, and it was all around a good time!

The bigegst drawback of having played this game so much is that sooo many later games (like skyrim for example) have felt completely lackluster in their combat systems...

eeeeeh it's a great game and still holds up, but it's pretty unique, certainly not a traditional bethesda rpg. i think the title is a bit unfortunate, more like a physics based first person action game. now that i think on it, it feels closer to doom 2016 or halflife than any actual rpg. anyway cheers.

The prologue is a completely different one, where Sareth retrieves the Shantiri crystal from a temple in a stoney valley and the tutorial area from the pc verion is a part of the early main story. But there is no blood, beheading and bodies disappear after killing an enemy. And I think the stealth kill mechanic and some weapons are missing. But Ioooved it!
