The Flying Karamazov Brothers were a fixture in the Seattle festival scene in the 80s. They always issued a challenge for the audience to provide three items which one of the 'brothers' would juggle at least three cycles. I remember them juggling a Seattle Times (the ad-filled Sunday issue!), a pair of jeans, and a diaper (fortunately clean) to great applause. It was a delight to see them on the big screen!
They were on an episode of Seinfeld as a spoof of themselves called The Flying Sandos Brother. They formed a human ladder and climbed up to the balcony where Jerry was sitting and borrowed his sport coat to make it "disappear". But it was a BORROWED sport coat, so....... The episode was called 'The Friar's Club'.
Good point about how Joan is now injecting herself into her books and not using proxy characters anymore. That’s where this movie goes wrong. In Romancing the Stone, she’s wildly naive, but you forgive her because she’s trying to save her sister. This movie she gets into trouble again, but it’s for selfish reasons. She thinks she’s a great adventurer like the book, but never circles back around to realize she’s not. She goes from being relatable and sympathetic in Romancing to annoying and stupid in this movie.
Happy Belated Birthday, Madison. I could use a laugh today. Why some don't care for this one is because now that they're together, a lot of the romantic suspense that the first one had, was missing. Kinda like what stopped Remington Steele and Moonlighting. Never underestimate romantic suspense.
Be sure to take time to watch Billy Ocean's music video, When the Going Gets Tough. Whether you make it a music reaction or just watch it for your own entertainment is up to you but back then these two went hand in hand. 😊 Looking forward for this. 💕
Happy birthday, young co-Cancer.💐🧡 I love Omar Sharif - he is so gallantly convincing being either a meanest villain or a purest hero. And he taught me how to play bridge.😉
Sorry so late, Madison! Life is busy sometimes and honestly, at my age (58), I wasn't even sure I ever saw this movie. I guess I did because some of it seemed to ring some bells. Anyway, very happy belated birthday wishes! And if you want to see Micheal, Kathleen and Danny reunited again, watch "War Of The Roses". An excellent dark comedy!
Jewel of the Nile is as good a birthday pick as I could think of. I wouldn't say it's the best movie I've ever seen, but I've seen it a few times and always enjoy it. I really hope you do too!
Best wishes for your birthday, There is another more recent movie that is very similar to this genre, starring Sandra Bullock as the author. It's called LOST CITY, I definitely think you'll like this one.
Not many sequels are as good as before. Are exceptions, but most aren't . Glad you watched to enjoy the two in another story. Have you watched him in his most famous in it, Wall Street? Or younger in one of my favorites, 1979 The China Syndrome with Jack Lemon and Jane Fonda. Or her in her prime with William Hurt, in his prime, 1981 Body Heat.Or with Jack Nicholson in 1985 Prizzi's Honor. Looking as beautiful as ever 💖
This trio also stars in THE WAR OF THE ROSES (1989). Kathleen Turner's breakout film debut in BODY HEAT (1981) propelled her into international stardom - I highly recommend that neo-noir erotic thriller for Madison's reaction.
Hey! Same birthday..! week..! And great choice. I love these two movies. First one really knocked it outta the park, and while sequels from this era virtually always experience a decline of some sort, *I* actually always rather enjoyed this one. Sequels in this day and age often got the gang’s all back together again feeling right.
Happy birthday! By the way, there is one more movie starring all three (Danny Devito, Michael Douglas, and Kathleen Turner) it's not part of the Romancing the Stone franchise. It's a Dark comedy called "War of the Roses." (1989) it's definitely worth the watch.
How can you only watch RTS one time? How is that possible? My Mom took me on a Mother/Son date to see RTS the day it came out, I’ve LOVED it ever since and watch it once a year…at least? Thanks Mom!!
@@aklimar2208 I’d bet my Mom and your Mom would be besties if they knew each other. Certain movies, liked or disliked, say a lot about a person’s character I think? Probably not exactly fair but, if I showed some of my favorites to someone I was interested in dating and, they really liked them too, they were “In Like Flint” for future relationships with me🤪
“Why? Did someone plant a bomb on there?” Yeah…when she threw the typewriter overboard and it went past the scuba diver planting a bomb on the boat. You were too busy talking about how much typewriters cost. 🤣🤣
Fun one, Madison! No, not a masterpiece, but these three I think just have fun doing movies together. A much better one of theirs is The War Of The Roses, a dark comedy for sure. You should add that one to your list. Glad you had fun for your own birthday pick. 🙂
Re: Characters Making Bad Decisions, because Plot, Undercutting the Intelligence of Said Characters Yeah, that's definitely frustrating. On the other hand, for a NYC romance novelist who: - flew halfway around the world to Central America - without knowing any of the language - or getting innoculations of any kind - in order to deliver a treasure map - and Dressed Cute instead of Practical - then got on a long-trip bus going in completely the opposite direction into the jungle (albeit with misdirection by the villain) just flying off with Omar feels at least a little on-brand. (I _do_ think the first film's setup was better written and constructed.)
Hehe.. yep.. I enjoyed the humor. Was nice to see Sharif. If your into dark comedy.. War of the Roses with both Douglas and Turner but it's not what you think.. or maybe you do just by the name of the film.. lol I'd like to recommend '84 Charing Crossing Road' if you haven't seen it yet. It's about the realities of being a writer in a certain time period/letters/a book store/events in history and good acting.. It's not a fast pace/action film but it is about a writer.. so there is that. She is definitely no Joan Wilder.. lol
@bossfan49 commenting, riffing, talking to characters, and over dialogue, etc is not reacting. That they have no interests or preferences of their own but instead rely on lowest-common-denominator polls from TH-cam strangers says it all.
I love Romancing the Stone. Seen it dozens of times. I watched this one once and only ever saw parts of it if it just happened to be on. Not even Kathleen Turner made it watchable.
I'm pretty sure the main story this movie is actually the plot of Joan's next book. With in it, she projects her relationship problems with Jack where the fictional versions of themselves resolve them and get back together happily. I mean, how corny is this movie? Like the plot of one of her romance books.
Happy belated B'day, Madison. Yeah this one wasn't as good as Romancing The Stone, but that movie was a lot better than it had any right to be (considering it was really just riding on Raiders Of The Lost Ark hype train).
Your right when you say its not as good as Romancing The Stone, however I think your being a little harsh on the story and charcter motivations. Both films are kind of B-movie in style but the quality of stone is just so high that its hard for Jewel to match up to it. Theres still some good moments in this that make it enjoyable.
Apparently, neither Kathleen Turner or Michael Douglas wanted to make this film, but they only did it because they were both under contractual obligation to do so. It's still a decent film, but "Romancing the Stone" is definitely better.
DeVito, Douglas and Turner teamed up one more time for War of the Roses. Terrific dark comedy, directed by DeVito. Big hit when released...make another exec decision.
Saw this once before and now seeing it again, it’s even worse than I remembered… sorry.. Romancing The Stone was so good, they shouldn’t have done a sequel.
JOTN was fun and funny, but less so than RTS. Both are just apt examples of the tone of comedies of the era. Perhaps, for your next Mad Executive movie pick, you might try It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Perhaps as crazy and chaotic, but with a late 50's to early 60's flavor. Full of stars and plenty of laughs. Actually, there are quite a few movies from that era that would be worth a watch: The Great Race, The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming!, Some Like It Hot, The Pink Pather, Cat Ballou, The Great Escape...the list goes on. Of those listed, all are funny except The Great Escape, which is serious drama based on actual events.
there is a movie called ' War of the Roses ' with Danny , Michael and Kathlene in it. Good film!
Prizzi's Honor with Kathleen and Nicolson.

A very fun sequel, I really love how they added in this mystical undercurrent with the Jewel.

Happy Belated Birthday, Romancing the Stone is the True 💎 Gem but The Family Jewels are a Lot of Fun

Now I know, where Ace Ventura 2 and even Monkey Island 2 took some inspiration from!
Not flying the jet saved their lives, if by some miracle he got it up in the air there would have been little chance of a successful landing.

Great choice of movie!
It's nice to finally see someone react to this movie. I've seen a few reactors watch Romancing the Stone, but never It's sequel.
The best thing about this movie is the theme song. The movie itself is not on the same level in terms of quality as Romancing the Stone.

This is a fun one. Cheesy, full of improbabilities, but it knows what it is and plays along.

It's not a jump jet, he can't just "lift!". (It's an F16 Falcon). He needs a decent runway to build up speed and get some wind under the wings.
If you haven't seen "Under The Tuscan Sun", it's worth a review. Diane Lane also plays a writer in this one.
Happy Birthday Mad!

The average typewriter during that time cost between $25 and $200.

Omar Sharif reminds me how none of all these so-called "reactors" ever look at films like the epic, Oscar-winning Dr. Zhivago.
"so-called"?? How else would you describe it? Evidently they don't get many requests for Dr. Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, etc.
@bossfan49 commenting, riffing, talking to characters, and over dialogue, etc is not reacting. That they have no interests or preferences of their own but instead rely on lowest-common-denominator polls from TH-cam strangers says it all.

'War of the Roses' is the Black Mirror wrap up to the the trilogy IMHO.
Great video!!! Would love to see you react to the sequel to man from snowy river :)
Thank you! I’ll definitely get to that one at some point!
I have a BIG soft spot for this one. Watched this a LOT as a kid and still maintain that Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner had ridiculous chemistry.
