- On a small island in the Delaware River between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, you will find Treasure Island Scout Camp and the Goodman-Edson Museum. Scouts began camping at TI in 1913, and the Philadelphia Council leased the island from the Ridge family until 1920, when the Council acquired the property with the assistance of Oscar G. Worman and Edward Bok. For the next 95 years, TI operated as a camp, providing outdoor experiences to thousands of Scouts. In 2006, a major flood severely damaged the camp and canceled the summer camp season. In 2008, TI hosted its final campers, and the property remained vacant until 2018 when a family outdoor adventure company purchased the island and began rehabilitating the land and the facilities. They also allowed Scouts to once again camp on the island albeit on an abbreviated schedule of weekends. Today, the Friends of Treasure Island, a non-profit organization started by a group of former TI Camp staff members, offer a 3-day, mini-summer camp experience over 8 to 12 weekends each year.
The Goodman- Edson Museum is housed in the original Unami Lodge building on the island and is open on Saturdays when camping is available. Over the last three years, the GEM has expanded its collection and the stories being told through their exhibits.
