I don't think the real question should be can AEW surpass WWE. WWE is Disney, they're a full fledged global media company. All AEW needs to do is focus on the US, Canada and Western Europe... This is the part some people who don't like the WWE product anymore don't understand. When WWE is breaking ground on a new market, they're not concerned whether or not we like the segment with Jinder Mahal, and we all know damn well the Punjabi Prison Match VS Orton will be garbage with a sprinkle of Khali run-in... But the Indian market doesn't know that... That's billions of people exposed to WWE watching THEIR guy win the title... AEW can take 30% of the US/Canada market, which is more than enough to be a money making, profitable business, be where WWE was about 25 years ago size-wise and still make a LOT of wrestlers a LOT of money... They're playing on two different levels which is EXACTLY why Tony Khan keeps saying "We're not competing with WWE." Because they're not on the same economy of scale as WWE.
...not a great example. While Great Khali is a national hero in India, Jinder didn't even manage to get over there because they know damn well he's a Canadian. His World Championship run was a deliberate attempt by WWE to expand into India, and it _flopped._ They even had to cut down the number of shows they did on their tour there because it simply wasn't selling. Regardless, it's not like AEW could ever surpass WWE, that's like asking whether any restaurant chain could ever surpass McDonalds. The way capitalism works, once a company establishes themselves as a clear #1 they will remain #1 _forever_ no matter what, because the majority will continue to flock to whatever the majority are already flocking to, like a snake eating its own Big Mac. Although I think if there's one market where AEW could _easily_ overtake WWE if they continue to focus on it, it's the UK.
@@ArcaneAzmadi I agree with most of what you say, but being #1 isn't forever. Something eventually changes that shakes things up. There are elements here of the Chris Jericho that everyone loved, but there's a lot of Hulk Hogan in this interview - you know, the guy Chris Jericho criticized for keeping young guys in WCW like himself down. A lot of his statements here sound like Hulk trying to justify his contract and booking in WCW.
The difference being that Hulk honestly COULD justify it, just by being Hulk Hogan. Production was often greater than what you had to tolerate (TNA stint notwithstanding). Jericho has never been that dude, and never will be. His ego has been out of control these last few years. Combine that with him being a snake that always latches on to the latest “hot” act and siphons all their heat, and I’ve absolutely come to dislike him lately.
Jericho has put over pretty much every young wrestler he's worked with. Has he won some matches? Of course. But his name wouldn't have value if all he did was lose. Show me who Hogan put over in WCW besides Goldberg who was already over? Jericho has put over Starks, Action A., MJF, and countless others while elevating people like Sammy and the inner circle (now JAS) along the way. @@ProWrestlingPsychology101Exactly. Plus at least politics can effect people's lives. Wrestling is just wrestling, these tribes need to get over themselves.

Not to mention competition equals more money for their sports entertainers. I had no watched WWE that much in the last decade and AEW made me actually enjoy wrestling again.
the amount of hate AEW gets from WWE fans is insane. but if anything, it proves to every moderate person that they view AEW as competition otherwise why else do they talk about it so much?
There's still parts of AEW that I enjoy over WWE, like their tag team and midcard division. But they've added so many former WWE guys and people past their prime that it has affected the "cool factor" it had maybe until a year ago. Jericho can't go in the ring anymore, yet he's constantly on tv and his supposed "mentorship" hasn't visibly translated to the product.
That doesn't really make sense considering most of the top names early on in AEW were 'former WWE guys'. Cody, Jericho, Moxley, PAC to name a few, they dominated the main event scene early on. Bringing in Miro, Punk, Danielson, Malakai, Andrade and Cole didn't seem to affect the 'cool factor', if anything AEW got hotter and 'cooler' around that time. @@UFCWWE69 Because he's doing gangbusters work. The people who are actually _watching_ AEW are loving what he's doing, he gets mega heat, he's incredibly entertaining, he _can_ still go because he's kept himself in great shape for his age and unlike in the other 3 major companies he was in (WWF, WCW and TNA) he's not in the main event or holding any titles. It's probably the most over he's been in 3 decades.
I get to a degree that there was some legacy risk for established names taking an initial dive on an unproven company like AEW but the risk a lot of them like to sell it as being gets hyped more than it really was. Guys like Jericho or JR, and I don’t fault them whatsoever and would do the same exact thing as them if I had the leverage like they did, locked down huge financial guarantees over multiple years whether the venture was a success or failure and had zero financial risk by taking the gamble knowing that they were financially set whatever the outcome was. And judging by what was said at the time they were paid the most they ever had been to make their move. And if it had flopped how hard would it have been to just say why they took the gamble, point out the difficulty of that succeeding and mentioning that they were being paid the most they ever had been to take the risk so they did? Their legacies were long established and I highly doubt they’d have had any major issues going back considering they gave Vince a chance to match the deals and the deals were so good Vince told them to take the deals. Their biggest risk was realistically bruising their egos with a giant amount of money for doing so and Vince laughing about them bleeding the idiot kid who thought he’d actually have a chance to compete with him. And he points out all the time that what he had available with the WWE wasn’t appealing anyways so what was he truly risking? Respect for taking a gamble but doesn’t seem like it would’ve been a hard decision to make and props to them because they earned what they were offered.
I don’t know if I agree with the comment that John Moxley is bigger than Dean Ambrose and a viewers standpoint. At this current state, AEW can’t even sell 2000 tickets to their weekly show.
Is TNA still around ? Or did AEW take over. Because if TNA is still around and if AEW is interested once in awhile they could kind of put the wrestlers against each other once a year something like that maybe I don't know
I love the fact that even if it’s 💯% true that Jericho is a giant egotistical ham in real life it just feeds into his on screen persona thus making the perfect Heel for the trudish smarky internet fans
WWE wasted Moxley's potential but AEW didn't capitilise on it either. Moxley in FCW and as part of the early Shield was the best. It doesn't help that Rollins and Reigns in particular have stepped up and overshadowed him. Also AEW has done really well considering it only started few years ago, but Jericho is delusional in thinking AEW is a force to be reckoned with. The booking has gotten much worse the past 2 years than when it originally started and the company definitely isn't reaching the potential that Jericho had predicted a couple years back.
They've hit levels most would have never expected, getting another 2 hour show and selling over 60,000 tickets in London is beyond what anybody could have realistically expected. The booking is better now than in the first year too when they were getting guys used to being on TV and doing some god awful stuff with Cody etc, there's some real revisionism about early AEW, I'd say this has been their strongest year after 2021 so far with a lot of their biggest events ever coming up. Totally disagree on Mox too, he's way happier in AEW for a reason, pointless trying to talk up his WWE time when he himsef thought it was the drizzling shits
He’s still sour about being in the 2nd match of WM33. As much as he doesn’t wanna admit it, that’s the case. Of course he’s a draw in AEW, he’s their only biggest mainstream star
Honestly man I'd be sour too, him and Owens had the best story going into Wrestlemania and they threw that away and put them on second for Goldberg & Brock which didn't need the title id admit though shit he's justified lol
I do agree with this as he is so right. At that time Cody was great, Kenny was amazing, the young Bucks were amazing, the Lucia’s were amazing but they weren’t known to people beyond the hardcore wrestling fans. If you ask casual wrestling fans they knew Jericho and Jim Ross. Just goes to show he knows the business and that you need those names to for TV , sponsors, marketing and the ground work to happen. There is a reason they made him the first champion people!! So glad he joined as prob might favourite of all his championship reigns of his across his career! ‘A little bit of the bubbly!!’
Dustin is perhaps the most underrated wrestler of all time at the least. Guy is the guy who never won the Big One who deserved it. Mr. Perfect, Owen Hart, Ted DiBiase (alleged crimes notwithstanding) and William Regal are up there with him though.
Showtime or Amazon would have been way better than TNT. As of now I have no way to watch AEW because I refuse to pay for cable and they have no streaming service
Raw is shown on BT Sport (soon to become TnT Sport which is funny), the second, if not biggest Sports channel provider in the UK. AEW is on ITV 4. The fourth channel of the third best free tv channel in the UK. How he thinks they are doing better i don't know 🤦♂

he as invented MEN!
someone wanna tell me how to watch the whole thing?
Y2J once saved me from a burning building. Oh, and he cured my cancer too. Thank you, Chrissy.
Chris is the absolute complete goat entertainer wrestler the man
Damn Chris Jericho and Chris McClain (Total Drama) have a LOT in common.
Bigger than he was as Dean Ambrose? What fantasy world are they living in? They work 3 times a month. At best
Vince also told Bret, Hall and Nash to "take it" when WCW offered. You're not special.
"Made return safe for guys like Punk" IMFAO 😂😂😂
And he's right.
I don’t know if I agree with the comment that John Moxley is bigger than Dean Ambrose and a viewers standpoint. At this current state, AEW can’t even sell 2000 tickets to their weekly show.
Me too
The comments passed the vibe check 😂

Im surprised during the interview that CJ didn't play his boombox too loud and get kicked out of the building
Luckily he is super modest and not full of himself at all
2:40 'Recruiter'
Ohh he said that anyway
Lenny Lane is still around?
Respect for going against Gage
Why? He's trash
bring him back as champ
As long as Vince has his fingers on wwe operation.. the chance if y2j coming back is a possibility
I grantee you
AEW and WWE
WORK TO TOGETHER
Moxley doesn't seem any better to be honest
Who wants TV Time??!! I know I do!"
AEW tnowh if y2j went to that permotionl and I think it was good idea 💡 and he's work is next level 👌
Aew isn't bigger in the uk 😂 its on itv at 9pm obviously its going to get more views than wwe which is on bt sport at 1am
Nah bruh mox sucks. Why tf does he want to bleed in every match
Seth and Roman stepped they game up.
When I first saw moxley in aew when punk debuted I thought why are they showing some random guy walking back from the concession stand !
What potential? 🤨
Vince really loves y2j
He’s still sour about being in the 2nd match of WM33. As much as he doesn’t wanna admit it, that’s the case. Of course he’s a draw in AEW, he’s their only biggest mainstream star
Honestly man I'd be sour too, him and Owens had the best story going into Wrestlemania and they threw that away and put them on second for Goldberg & Brock which didn't need the title id admit though shit he's justified lol
He has admitted it many times.
Really? Are u delusional? Their biggest star is Punk, and jericho hasn't drawn NEARLY as much 4 hyears as Punk did in 1.
Nope that would be Punk
I'd be sour too if I'd been the best thing in wrestling for a year and I got bumped for 2 part-timers.
4 minutes in and "SHOCKING" hasn't happened yet
Damn. Jericho is like this company is only alive beavuse of me lol
Hell we all are alive because of him.
This guy can literally never tell a story without taking credit for the topic
Jericho couldn’t think of the word recruit. Lol
It’s because he was solving complex algorithms in his head during this interview!
Yep ye-yep yep.. werp wa-werp werp.. Im so humble.. lol
Why is it censored?
G.O.A.T.
The comment section created a meme and its hilarious
Like I keep saying, Dustin Rhodes is the G.O.A.T.🐐#GOATDust🤣
Dustin is perhaps the most underrated wrestler of all time at the least. Guy is the guy who never won the Big One who deserved it. Mr. Perfect, Owen Hart, Ted DiBiase (alleged crimes notwithstanding) and William Regal are up there with him though.
Showtime or Amazon would have been way better than TNT. As of now I have no way to watch AEW because I refuse to pay for cable and they have no streaming service
The word you’re looking for is recruiting
Jericho would be nothing without the rub Ralphus gave him. There would be no AEW without Ralphus
