- A 25 minute documentary about the daily life of Stalybridge Railway Station. Fiilmed in 1984, it shows the heritage of the world famous Buffet Bar.
Highlights include stories of how the Bar was faced with closure, the rail accident of 1963 and the day to day running of the station.
As a point of interest, the train driver at 2:41 was also a local Cricket umpire that once gave me out and I've yet to forgive him.
That was a great flight back to a long past life. Brought back a proustian rush to a teacup of black peas and pints of Moonraker. Thanks very much.
Aah the Buffet Bar,a popular venue in the town, I remember the Folk nights there *****
When working offshore 3 months 1 week off back in the 1970s get the train from Yarmouth to Stalybridge gas lights on the platform into the bar for a pint or 2 before getting a taxi home to Ashton always felt it was home when I stepped onto the bar big fire lots of railway artifacts
hi grear remember it weii ken and dot plus young ken who ran it later we was going to the moon disco in dukie and started off there game of cards and a couple of ciders wow memory lane. i still call in when im back in the uk for a few glasses of landlords
I'm not entirely sure it's from 1984, the class 45 locomotive arriving on the service to Liverpool Lime Street has a headlight, 45s didn't start to get them fitted till late 1985. Great film nonetheless. 👍
