I am big fun of AC. But don’t tell a lie that there’s black samurai without proof. If they say it’s fiction I could buy it and enjoy black looks like Strong body samurai game but I lost the opportunity….
AC has always been about being the outlier from the very first AC. Conor was Native America, Edward was a Welsh man in the Caribbean, and so on. People forget that out of convenience. Plus, the latest AC games had us fighting mythological creatures and added alien tech. How is that historically accurate? Yasuke existed unlike the other AC protagonists, so it's the least fictional of the series.
what’s worse is that they made him a Samurai when his records called him a retainer. They did have some alien tech in the beginning like Ac 1 but now they are putting that innovation of tech into everywhere when it is suppose to only be small scraps of it like the Apple of Eden, Shard fragments, and scepter that can hold the Apple of eden on top of it.
C'mon, this game is like making one set in Nigeria back in the day but having the protagonist be a white guy because one visited one time. It's insulting.

Using a black male protagonist for a game about ancient Japan is just an excuse for them not to use a Japanese male samurai protagonist who were the real samurais and ninja, it shows their racism towards Asian men who they see as weak. We know what you're doing, known it for a long time, also happens in Hollywood films too like last samurai and the wolverine. It's up to woke Asian men to call them out as usual. But they will fetishise Japanese women as ninjas and the love interest of the foreigner and try and divide Asian men and women. If you don't want to put Japanese men in a game don't make a game about Japan. Westerners love Japanese culture they just don't like Japanese men associated with that culture.
Careful mate, I agree with everything you say apart from “westerners”. It’s a very small percentage of social degenerates who cause all of these issues.
It's miss representing japanese history. People are mad, that its a black man and not a japanese man. Which makes sense, but feels racist as hell. Anyways, its a dumb game not a historical drama, but it is a historical period game and peopls have the right to be mad. But being stupid to threaten and attsck people over this is the real problem. Not some misrepresentation, violence is not the answer.
The fact that they replaced an Asian man as the protagonist and there are people act like normal and even defending it just proved the normalization of discrimination against Asian men in Western media. The Japanese government literally had to step in.
Okay, two things. First, where was there any indication that the original plan was to have a different main character besides Yasuke and Naoe? Second, the government hasn't gotten involved. An NHK rep has asked them to comment but nothing has occurred yet.
Not being given a job doesn't mean you were replaced. Naoe is Japanese and is on the front of the box. They're angry that a spot wasn't also reserved for a Japanese man.

@@arfgrogue5735 True, but i think the uproar in japan is that the samurai isn’t a samurai. From what I can gleam from twitter translations on Japanese Ubisoft there is quite a lot of sensitivity around Japanese history being subject to western revisionism, i don’t think the debate is based on the same sort of vehicle for left-right divisions, or likely any objections with racist undertones
Yasuke was used by Oda Nobunaga as a tool. He used samurai gear when fighting. He lived for about 30 years only, though. But he was real. But doesn't mean they use a black figure when they can easily use a Japanese character lol. They done so with all the previous ones like altair arab. Ezio I think spaniard or Italian. Easy fix they can just change him to japanese.
As a Japanese, I think the essence of this problem is not the way Yasuke himself is portrayed. Rather, it is the promotion of the game and the attitude of Ubi Soft. Although the game claims to be based on historical facts and with the help of historians, there are many elements in the game's promotional video that do not seem to have been seriously verified, such as the completely inaccurate clan flags and the unauthorized use of the game's design. If they had announced from the beginning that the game contained a lot of fictional elements, it might not have been a problem. Then again, the unauthorized use of designs and the fact that the subtitles in the Japanese promotional video are in Chinese would have offended many people, as Ubi Soft has no respect for the Japanese people or Japanese culture. It is misleading to report as if many Japanese people think it is unacceptable for a black man to be portrayed as a samurai based on racist sentiments.
It's only "just a game" if you do it right. Im black myself, I don't give two craps about Yasuke. He's clearly involved so he can make black people happy and then next thing you know, they're all wearing merch t-shirts with him on it (see what they did there?). Ghost of Tsushima didn't have to do it, I'm glad they didn't and I'm still waiting for number 2. All Assassin's Creed had to do here was make the game about ninjas, as that's what a Japanese assassin is usually associated with being. But no, they had to mix an unbroken formula (jumping into hay from ridiculous heights, tightrope parkour, hidden sleeve blade stabbing, except this time, "Shinobi style") with an unnecessary "risk" (this shit).
Call of Duty was inaccurate about future warfare. They made the Russians look like they’re tough, when in actuality the modern video footage of their soldiers getting their butts handed to them on a daily basis proves otherwise.
That's just war propaganda which has existed for thousands of years. The media participates in this by cherry picking the videos which I know because of seen many videos of Russian soldiers being victorious in battle as well as their strategies as well as giving footage a false narrative like how a journalist saw a Ukrainian missile bomb a Ukrainian hospital and the western media falsely accused the missile of being Russian. That reminds me of when Israel was accused of bombing a hospital a few months ago and it turned out that it was a friendly fire of Palestinian bomb that struck the Gazan hospital car park with the hospital still intact.
Literally all the games have a main character that weren’t real . This is the first that was , just because it’s not accurate to actual history is just like any other assassins creed game . Get over it
Japanese distortion of their history is infamous. The heroic samurai, Sakamoto Ryoma, who defeated the 1000 years' Tokukawa military dictators, was distorted in his ancestors' origin.
Where was the backlash when Hollywood got things wrong or outright lied about events in movies so many times over the years? Some folks need to get a grip and get a life, it's a computer game, not a documentary.

Assassins Creed = Fictional stories. FICTION! They can do whatever they want in a FICTIONAL story. Assassins Creed games all use real history with fictional stories. It’s one of its pulls to play it. Just let it go!
