Like any software company, there are at times software glitches that require patches. The patch updates are completely free and can be done by the end user by installing ShopStream Connect (a free pc program) from Snap-on's site. www.snapon.com/diagnostics/us/SSC. These glitches are far and few between and are generally resolved almost immediately once reported. All scan tool manufactures have these issues. Including Launch, Autel, Bosche, etc. Also just an FYI, Snap-on writes the software for the OE Toyota Techstream. Snap-on's Toyota coverage is fantastic.
Hold up, would this caused the VSC lights to trip on a 08 Lexus? I had a shop replace a hub for me on the back rear and he said it would need a new wheels speed sensor. I was going to do that first but I am stumbling across your video by the TH-cam rabbit hole. Have you heard of it causing this?
It shouldn’t cause that light to come on. The only reported problems were with the passenger detection system or OCS. That would cause the airbag light to illuminate. The vsc light can be caused by many things including a bad wheel speed sensor. Did they give a list of codes retrieved from the vehicle?
VIPLegal Education two belong to the shop and two are mine. Sometimes I need multiple scan tools depending on what I’m doing. If I have a tool tied up waiting for an intermittent symptom to happen or running a function test. I also have a launch scantool and many OEM j2534 applications on my laptop.
I just checked my modis edge and I’m running 18.2.1 Perhaps the .1 is the update to solve the intermittent error when clearing codes on Toyota’s. I have never encountered the problem either but when I heard about this issue on a forum I had my whole shop change our procedure for scanning and clearing codes on Toyota’s. I made this video after receiving an email from Snap-on informing me about the patch and I called tech support to confirm that this patch would fix the issue. The patch for 18.2 came out many months ago but I never received an email about it until the patch for 17.4 came out. If you are running 18.2.1 then you should be up to date. The email from Snap-on was very vague but I would be happy to forward it to you if you would like.
According to scotty Kilmer Toyotas never have to be scanned, Toyotas dont break, and if that scan tool was a toyota brand it would go 240000 scans problem free😂😂😂
Scotty forgot to mention that his check engine light is burnt out so he never has to worry about scanning it for the EGR low flow code. 🤣🤣 thanks for stopping by 🔧🔧🔧🔧
Did you try this before the update? How many have failed the reset? Might want to call snapon diagnostic support. Something may have glitched during the update or you could also have a cable issue.
Conny Martinez your local snapon franchisee would be able to help with that if you don’t have a local rep you might be able to call snapon and have the new software authorized and then you could update the scanner with a laptop. Here shortly many dealers will be offering a buy one get one program that will let you upgrade to 20.2 software now and you get 20.4 update at no charge.
I’m not a snapon rep so I don’t know the current pricing but it is normally 699-899 for solus depending on current promotions. The modis, verus, Zeus platforms are 1299 and up for the updates.
Is there a fixed for this? I believe I’m a victim of this bug. Car came in fine but left the shop with SRS. Never in an accident or anything of the like. Went to independent Lexus shop and pulled the b1650 code, occupant detection.
I don’t know if there is a way to recover the module. To find out if it is related I would ask the shop what equipment they are using and what software level the tool is running. If the shop is still running 17.4 software it means they have not updated the tool since October of 2017.
@@ThePracticalMechanic thanks for following up. I dug some more and replaced my “computer, occupant detection” sensor with a used one and all is good now!
This particular problem was fixed in 18.4 but Snap-on released a patch for 18.4 last week to address many other issue they have been having. I tried to get a patch list from the diagnostic support people and they told me that the information was internal only. Still hoping to get more information about it. If you have 18.4 I recommend performing the update with shopstream connect like I showed in this video. If you have a Zeus then a message will pop up on the screen when it powers up and then you can update it.
I’m really going to call bullshit. My shops do 75 to 100 cars daily. Because we specialize in Toyota/Lexus of those cars we see a ton of late model Toyota’s come through. I have 8 snap on scan tool, 4-5 laptops all running Techstream. I have had these tools from 16.4 to 18.4 they are all updated as each release is made. Never, not once have we seen this. Every car is code scanned pre and post at our shop, if we perform work, codes are cleared. For ease of use and time saving the Snapon tools are the first choice of the techs. For the record I despise Snapon scan tools and prefer Autel and OEM. They are only in my shop because of the ease of use and comfortability factor my techs have with them.
I have never had it happen to me as well but Snap-on released a patch specially for the problem. It may only happen under certain situations but I couldn’t get anymore information from Snap-on. A Snap-on employee responded to the question on diag.net and gave addition information about the release of the patch.
I have never run into the issue myself either but since snapon came out with a update specifically for this problem then there must be documented cases for it. (There are several cases on diag.net) The problem isn’t when you access or do a re-learn on the OCS system but the problem was happening when you would perform a full system scan in version 17.4/18.2 and then Immediately clear all codes. I have done the same procedure on numerous Toyotas and never had an issue.
I just recently had my car serviced. This has happened to me. SRS light stays on and two Bcan codes B1650 & B1797. Has anyone got Snap-On to fix this issue? Seems like if it is a known issue the franchise truck would mandatory update on all scan computers.
I have the same issue with my 09 GS350 I saw another TH-cam video that a Lexus tech could back the ECU from one module and the use the backup to flash the ECU but it requires Toyota’s tools. It’s also not an official fix from Toyota showed the dealer and said they could not do that.
It was a rare software glitch that only occurred if all codes were gathered and then cleared. The problem was fixed with a free software update on snapon scanners running 17.4 software. Other brands may have issue as well but I have not heard about any.
Snap on is junk in comparison to Autel and Launch, with the cost of updates and being able to purchase a launch and autel and still be cheaper, Snap on has amazing tools. I work in a shop that does a lot of European, high end and luxury, when it comes to S class Mercedes and g wagons the Verus edge is glorified tablet. It sounds like you work on mostly luxury European cars. The best tool is going to be something other than Snapon like the Autel, VCDS, Launch, autologic or the factory tool.
