Hi Christine. I’ve found out that if the paper doesn’t come off from the iron, DONT wash! Put them in the freezer for a week or more and you’ll find they peel off. The longer you can leave in the freezer the easier they come off. Hope this helps.
I can never get my labels off also and usually just so over. They are usually at the bottom of a bag or pouch. I will try this freezer as well. Love your videos!
I have been sewing for years, and I must say, I love to watch your videos. Loved the one that shows how to make many totes and save so much time. I sew totes and purses as well and I also get my fabric samples like you do. You always have a great little tidbit of how to save a little bit of time and it is amazing how just a few little things can make a difference. So glad I found your videos and ideas.
Great video! I like the black one the best but they are all great! When I make bags, I leave a section of the top open where I connect the outer and the lining. Then that way I just sew it closed when I do the top stitch closed so I don’t have to do the extra closure. Only mentioning it because I know you like making things as quickly as possible. I’m like you, I love efficiency 😂😂😂
Thank you BG. I think back in my quilting days I did this technique, and didn't like how the fabric would sit. Possibly due to the batting. I might have to do a time trial for myself😃
Both versions are good. I guess it depends what you are using the bag for - shopping or just to carry a certain item. Hope you've sold them all by now 🤑
I’ve gone to my local fabric shop and I was able to get a box of fabric panels for free they was going to toss. I’m so excited. I made my first one today. Thank you for the instructions. You’re a very awesome teacher. I have made some in the past and I sell them at the craft fair. I wish I could get $45 but I’m having a hard time selling them for 20 and they come out really good. I guess in the United States they don’t sell that well.
I like them both and would use them as project bags. What I’m knitting at the moment would determine which orientation I choose. Also, as my project gets larger, I’d move it from the shorter bag and into the taller.
The bags are great Christine. There are many combinations of how you could put them together. The strips with he paper backing would make great bookmarks, stitch or glue them with paper sides together round off or taper one end put an eyelet in them & thread a tassel, ribbon, wool or string through it. Maybe you could stick them to some cork or thin mdf for coasters You’ve got me thinking now as to what else you could do with them. Love your work, thank you 🪡🧵😀
Ooooh I was so excited to see that you made a video for these bags! They looked just *gorgeous!* in the sneak peek in your last video. 👀 😍🤩🥰 I just *adore* working with sample books
This is a wonderful tutorial, Christine. I have sample books that I forgot I had..got them out..they are smaller samples. I can make cell phone and eyeglass holders. You got me thinking. Thank you.❤ also coasters, mug rugs.
Hi Christine! I am new here and have already been binge watching many videos. I am hoping to become a better sewer. I typically sew everything by hand but have been trying to use our sewing machine more so that I get better with it. I am looking forward to learning how to make many things watching your videos. These bags are lovely, nice work! Thanks for your time and the videos your provide for our viewing and learning pleasure.
Love those Bags!! Another great project to use those fabric swatches. The only place I've found to get swatch samples, sells theirs but I do use Tea towels. You know those lovely ones you don't want to use. You can get a 1 longer or 1 shorter bag out of each tea towel, I even get enough to make the straps. If you unpick the side seams you get about 2" of extra fabric. ( I find it quite relaxing big stitches I guess?) I like the shorter bag. Thanks Christine..
Soaking will make the paper easier to remove but will still leave a lot of the glue. I’ve just been given about 25 books of varying sizes and am making bags just as you are here. Some fabric does get wasted but less than would be without making the bags!
Totally agree Christine. Most of the swatches have very little wastage, and I don't mind paper being left in when it's thin. These were quite thick, and I do have a plan. Stay tuned!😁
Like the material colours. My last week for sewing for a little while this week. Carpel tunnel op on Fri both hands, so hope I will not be out of action for to long. Some tell me it will only be a couple of days, others tell me a lot longer, so will just have to see. Hehe. I am hoping before that to get the top of my quilt finished., yes the massive EPP 108x108 inch one. Then get that finished asap. Then will have a try at a few things you have shown to us. Thanks for sharing. Karen.
Good luck with surgery Karen. I had both hands done in September. I was sewing two days later, but couldn't use scissors or cutters for about 6 weeks. But I wouldn't let that stop me. I had Chris do tasks I wasn't up to.😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs great idea. Saves you not being able to do the things you enjoy. Do you do any EPP work if so how long before you could sew that please. Xx thanks for you good wishes appreciate that.
Thank you for the ideas! I find as long as I have a lining, it doesn't matter if the paper comes off, especially if lining is a little thicker/not transparent. Also, I think it's a bit easier if you line pockets and then sew right sides together instead of creating a separate lining.
Christine, I love this idea. I’m going to find some upholstery shops and see if I can get some of their old fabric swatch books. Thanks for this great idea. By the way, I also like the shorter version of the bag.
*a tip? I will take fabric I can't get the paper off of & make pretty tags for gifts or glue a business card on while leaving a fabric border (when I do a fancy-schmancy craft show)
Fantastic job Christine! I was able to snag several of the fabric swatch books from a local store that is going out of business. While not free, anywhere from $2 to $7 each was still a great bargain. The amount of bags and pouches I can make out of each, almost negates the small fee. And it keeps them out of the landfill. Love the inspiration you give us. Note: I use my crafting heat gun to release the glued on paper, leaves very little residue (not sticky). With those scraps the paper won't come off, others have mentioned great ideas! tags, business cards, bookmarks.
I might have to raid Chris's shed and try out his heat gun. I have a few ideas on the leftovers as well. Was going to see how they come up as bookmarks, coasters etc😀
I love those bags they are a lovely size ,the material is perfect and the patchwork suits the bag.I was thinking the strips of fabric you have with paper on ,could you get a large printed label with your details ,stick them on the fabric and make them into business cards or tags. Lovely video,I think they will sell well, the Bo- ho look is in magazines this summer.
I was pleased to get the opportunity to see what you made from these different sized samples. I was given a sample book some time ago and had to cut off the strip where the paper was stuck. I couldn't bear to throw them away as I felt there must be something I could make - after all I often use fabric when I'm doing paper crafts. But still can't work out what to do with them. So here's a challenge, Christine! Can you come up with a way to make something using those strips?
Like them all and agree with you Christine that the light coloured one will sell first. You're SO innovative. I wonder if the sample books are available for 'free' in UK 🤔...probably not!! 😏 😕
The fabric with the paper still attached can be cut to shape with pinking shears to be used as bookmarks. I cut two rectangles, sew them together, hole punch, attach a ribbon - bookmark
Yes, I agree the shorter bag suits me better. Do you ever put metal snaps to hold it together? I like your thinking process. Lovely bags. I typed to soon, than you explained why you don't do closures. A+ video.thank you.
re the fabric waste due to glued tape, I had this problem while doing some charity makes so I backed to back them, sewed around them and they sell well as bookmarks, you could chop off the top two corners to give a little more style and even add a little ribbon tab at the top, they are very quick to make and save the waste.
I like the shorter bag in the black tones, really enjoyed your video, thank you. Looking forward to your next video. Also where do you find your fabric samples for repurposing.
What is the finished size of the wider bag, and what length are you strapping handles please? Love this size bag. Thanks for inspiring all of us with your upcycled makes.
Hi Christine I do love the bags you put together, especially the squat shape. Can I ask please, how do I go about getting free sample swatch fabric’s. What do I ask for etc. it is all very new to me. Thank you muchly 😊

Can you scratch the holes shut? Or have the staples damaged the threads too much to close?
Esther, the staples were huge. The holes were much too big. 😀
Could you mind sharing what type of fabric you are using for the lining?
Yes Tamara. I'm using mostly cotton fabrics. Could be dress material, or quilting cotton from deceased estates, or yard sales😃
