- I am comparing retail versus hobby by opening 5 blaster boxes and 1 hobby box of the new 2022-23 Panini NBA Hoops basketball for our next sports card pack break! Retail vs. hobby is always a common debate in the minds of collectors, and it isn't always clear which has the best value for the price. Retail looked more fun… not as nerve racking bc you know what to expect and when you do hit- feels better
I certainly prefer hobby but it is far too expensive for the average person to purchase. It makes it nearly impossible to get the nice cards unless you are wealthy. That being said I enjoy opening cards very much and I take what I can get, mostly retail but maybe a couple times a year I can save up for a decent box. Thank you for the videos, very informative for someone like me as what to buy especially when I have to make every dollar count.
Wow - much closer than I thought it would be before ripping. Interested to get hands on some of these blasters now. Hobby still has the best ceiling but good value there in the blasters. Nice rip and thanks for sharing!
There is a bit of a riff between retail and hobby. I believe this helps a lot of people in the hobby feel more confident about buying retail.

I would say hobby because the base and non numbered parallels just drop in price quite quickly once there are a lot of them out there. The hobby sig is at least numbered. Anyway nothing super amazing in both but it was fun to watch.

Hoops has always been a tough pull. But the cheapness of the boxes makes up for it.

I'm going with hobby every time. Like you said, there is value in both but, hobby has the rarer stuff.
So when your rips are done, how do you protect and store your left pile (most valuable) vs. middle pile vs. right pile? Thanks.
Seperate them by bins, and use the sleeves on the valuable cards

I think that last blaster really gave you a heads up on the hobby. I don't know the values really, but it seemed pretty damn close! I'd say blasters are more fun because it's easier and cheaper to get

I’m taking hobby too. I’m tired of grading base and the crappy qc of retail.
I have had great luck with hoops. I just started collecting cards a few months ago after a couple year break, and I got 1 30 card $7 packs of hoops, and a 10 card $3 pack of hoops. In the $7 pack, I got an Arriving Now Paolo, and in the $3 pack, I got an auto of Joe Ingles.
How does your center stage work so good. Mine works about 10% of the time.

I think hobby wins slightly but if those blue Rookies gemmed up, retail would win. I bet if you were told you'd get a lottery pick auto /25 before you opened, you'd be pumped!

I probably prefer retail if i was to open the packs just because u get more packs n while the ceiling is lower its alot easier to swallow getting nothing from a $25 blaster than it is with a $125 hobby box, hobby prices these days feel like their at an all time low atleast compared to the last couple years
At first i was going for hobby. Coz of the auto. But after you open that last blaster i think with the blue chet and paolo, wew!!! With a jersey card for 25 bucks??? Blaster wins!!! I just bought a blaster and hope i get a blue paolo, that looks awesome!
