- I am comparing retail versus hobby by opening 7 blaster boxes (3 Holiday Winter boxes & 4 Value boxes) and 1 hobby box of the new 2023-24 Panini NBA Hoops basketball for our next collectible sports trading card pack unboxing/box break! Collectors often face the choice of choosing retail or hobby, but it is tough to determine which has the most bang for your buck. I was planning to buy hoops, but my hobby shop had them for $225. I saw a hoops box from last year for $130 and brought it. I pulled a rookie ink auto of paolo banchero. I’m happy with that

I feel like Hoops will be a great thing to rip in 2-3 months. Once everyone is on to the higher end products, Hoops will be cheap enough to be a fun rip with some upside.

My daughter and her boyfriend bought me two retail packs of Hoops for Christmas. I was expecting nothing and got exactly that in the first pack. On the second pack, I was shocked when I saw the Wemby card, knowing that there would be another one right behind it! Love how the Wembys follow a pattern and make it so nice you get it twice!

i'm a very low level collector right now, but I've had the worst luck last year with retail anything. The second I gave it up and started saving more towards hobby and fast break, my luck went way up. I have my 3rd box of Hoops hobby on the way as we speak, hoping for some Wemby inserts or parallels 😭

I’ve had the WORST luck with hobby hoops. I opened this years and last years and I got maybe $25 back from both combined. Dick Van Arsdale auto from this year and Dinwiddie from last. I give up😂

ive ripped 5 hobbies, around 30 blasters, and 16 fat packs, if youre chasing wemby, buy retail, you wont get the cool inserts that hobby has but often times if you pull a wemby base they put a hoops tribute wemby right behind it, blasters also have 3-4 rookies every pack compared to hobbys 2-3, if youre looking for autographs and all around dope cards, hobby is the way to go, i pulled a numbered joakim noah auto, a few rookie autos, a 1/25 (jersey match) amen thompson city edition, a bunch of other cool stuff, ive got 2 more hobbys to rip and 5 asia boxes, first time ive seriously gotten into ripping packs and tbh i love this year's hoops
I bought a few boxes of retail hoops and pulled 5 Wemby’s. One box had 3 including the blue Wemby from the video. I thought I should try playing the lottery next! I’ve only purchased retail hoops so I can’t speak on honby personally, but retail was a lot of fun.
I personally spent a few hundred maybe more on 2020-21 blaster boxes, after I saw I was wasting my money, I decided to just buy the cards individually that I wanted. I'd rather spend 1k on a card and know that I'm guaranteed a good card then 1k on a box and pull a Mo Bamba purple. Lol
I got a signed Rookie Ink of Toumani Camara - Suns from one of these retail blasters after buying 3 of them. Is that considered lucky?
I got my brother 2 regular blasters and both had Wemby base and tribute rookies, one had an extra Wemby base rookie and both had Rise N Shine Wemby relics. Sucks that they're worn by no one but still, quite a bit of luck. I myself have cracked 5 blasters and have pulled 2 autographs. Retail can certainly hold it's ground against Hobby for this specific product. The winter edition is always a fun rip and getting a hit in every one doesn't hurt 😛
New sub- great vids. How about Donruss football retail blasters vs hobby. Had some pretty good luck with blasters (2 downtowns from 6 boxes) and no luck on hobby (2 boxes)
I just started the video so I don't know how this turns out yet. Either way I would 100% go with hobby with Hoops. Hoops retail this year is atrocious. I grabbed about a dozen blasters via a few at a time from different stores.
Also the $30 per blaster price is robbery. You're much better off spending a couple hundred for hobby. Especially this year.

Based on this video I decided to get the Holiday boxes, 99.9% will be the mem card, but I already pulled an auto from regular retail, Mark Williams. I bet my auto luck is out on basic, so moving to holiday, probably out on all NBA hoops but will see

While i watch this after the first holiday blaster i grabbed my work phone and i just ordered a 20 box case of 23-24 hoops holiday blasters for $599 on blowout

Bought one of these hobby boxes and will never buy another box of cards again. That's after collecting since the late 80s. It was incredibly bad in terms of value and enjoyment of the anticipation. The industry is a mess.
I actually thought about buying a couple of these Hoops boxes recently but they were just too damn much for me right now. Hopefully more gems available in next years. Prizm surprisingly did me some justice this past year though.

Blaster won for sure. As far as Panini is concerned, I can't stand them. I collected before they destroyed the hobby and loved it. Panini ruined the hobby. So glad Topps is coming back. Would love to see Upper Deck, Fleer, Donruss all make a comeback as well. I refuse to buy Panini products.
I’ve been opening retail for about 4-5 years and I’ve never pulled one single auto from someone that’s actually played an NBA game. Idk why I waste my money on retail. All I want to do is pull a decent auto 😂
Love the video as usual... But I'm sorry man... But I think hoops is the worst set ever... There's too much base not enough numbered cards ... Big hits or even hit r hard to come by... N even wen u hit em for the price I just don't think that its worth it... But if u don't care about value n ur happy with just cards of rookies n good n great players... This is for sure ur product...
I brought 5 hoops blasters and pulled 4 Wembys and virtually every rookie under the sun. Low floor but definitely good value for money
Retail is nice to gamble + random base for the collection but hobby is nice for the guarantee (not good sometimes). I say absolute blasters vs hobby NFL =D

The first blaster I opened got an auto Jalen Wilson auto, red jocik to 75 and a Tyler herro patch card. Been disappointed ever since and hard to pull a wemby
About the autographs maybe that's why we're losing their business because they screwed around too much with the original Donruss and Pacific and completely crapped on what was left of those beautiful companies
