- The COMPLETE - Vintage PAN Books - NUMBER Only Series - PAPERBACKS - Part 1 - Books 1 to 150
In today's video we take a fresh look through my collection of vintage Pan Books paperbacks. This time it's the first of three parts where we go through the first Pan releases leading into the number only series. I cover these from number 1 through 150.
I absolutely love collecting these books and I hope this video inspires you to start collecting them yourself.

The Lost Horizon was made and remade into movies . Christie...? I agree with you 💯% . Nuff said . Did Pan ever use some type of colour code or blurb for the different genres ? I am trying to guess which is which .😊 Most i get, from the author, title or art . I am a big fan of the Saint . Love the tv series with SRM . The difference between jacket and cover seems to be a story of itself 😊 Big fan of Dr Fell . And you can never go wrong with Wodehouse .
Excellent stuff, thanks Sylvan. No, Pan never really did colour coding but certain series got a more uniform look. The early movie tie ins in this video have a similar look and feel for example 🙂👍
Hi Pan book 134, Beau Brocade is by the writer of the Scarlet Pimpernel novels, Baroness Orczy...I think that is what you meant.
You're right of course! Damn memory 🙂
Was the dust wrapper a way of increasing the price from 1/6 to 2/-? Eg I noticed Trader Horn had 2/- printed on the inside fly leaf.
Quite possibly but I think it was probably to update the cover. I've quite a few paperbacks where they have had new price stickers applied at the time, increasing the price. Penguin were still doing this in the 90's🙂
Very interesting!
Cheers Bob!
I enjoy the simple cover designs of older books like this. I find them more aestheticly pleasing than most of the fancy, intricate designs you see now.
They definitely have a distinct charm🙂👍
