  • #neilgaiman #alanmoore #swampthing Gaiman states that Alan Moore's extraordinary run on Saga of Swamp Thing showed him the potential of comics and rejuvenated his love of the medium. Certainly many of Moore's concepts and themes recurred and were retooled by Gaiman in Sandman.

Funny. Two influential moments in pop culture history: Moore pulls that mind-blowing twist with Swamp Thing, then a teenage Gaiman reads it on the subway and has his mind blown.

I can relate to that. I'd pretty much given up reading comics; it just felt like they were regurgitating same thing over and over, until a friend handed me Alan Moore's brilliant Halo Jones (SE Book 2 & 3) and I was in love with the medium all over again

I felt that way when I discovered Love & Rockets at a time I had given up on comics. And then again when I later read V for Vendetta and Moore's Swamp Thing.

Fun Fact: Niel Gaiman wrote Sandman after reading Alan Moor Swamp Thing and asked Alan Moor also for his opinion. He said the Comic changed his Life he had given up on comics until he got Alan Moors Swamp Thing

Uh yeah, he says all of that in this video. I did videos reading of all of Moore's Swamp Thing for this channel a few years back and you can see so many instances where Gaiman just stole his best ideas from Moore. Things like the Serial Killer Convention in Sandman being an obvious one; as well as the trip through Hell. Moore, of course always did it better.

@@GodLovesComics Niel Gaiman said it best "The thing you got to know about Alan Moore is that he is a genius" Swamp Thing from Alan Moor is, i think the best comic I ever read, not to forget that it had the balls to breack the Comic Code Authoritie with issue 29 leading to the creation of Vertigo :))

And he invented Gangserrap so he is just beyond everything 😂

@@lowru4156 Yeah, Gaiman recognized that Moore was the true genius, but I think a lot of fans got it twisted and fell for Neil's stuff as much for his persona and charm as for the work itself. Now Gaiman is still the darling of comics and Moore is considered the old crank who hates adaptations of his work and openly disdains fans.

@@GodLovesComics Except for "For the man who has everything" Niel doesn't like interpretation either, that's why he secured the "exclusive" rights for the Sandman character. Yeah defenetly evan if Moore is more Charming in my opinion :))
