Perhaps the first iPhone-ready music video ever, seeing as it was completely watchable no matter which way was up. Try it! And of course, beautiful song!
Before wars, scarcity of materials can result in a fashion-trend of shorter skirts. There seems to be some economics messages in the lyrics. Probably something about hard times and creativity. Lovely song.
This is without doubt the most UNDERATED band... They are simply superb, Blondie come close...but would there be these guys without them? Awwwww, both are A1, Love both, but hey these guys should be regarded as one of the top 5 bands ever...
I hoid this song for the first time driving east on Sound Ave on eastern L.I. and the farm fields, the tops of trees, and barns were ablaze in crimson, courtesy of the sun setting after a storm. Such beauty have I rarely seen, I mean it was all crimson and scarlet, and it lasted 20 minutes a visual masterpiece. And the song amplified the visual excitement. It reminded me of Hamilton Reynolds $ Smith meeting the Foofighters Big Me. A big sound, really. Yet it has a sadness about it too.
Hearing a song by Neko Case today led me to to the New Pornographers. Like the song and the visuals. Once upon a time I might have quibbled, but nice is nice.
@tubenachos No accounting for taste - seems to me one of the most ingenious and beautifully simple videos I've seen in years. Granted, I don't watch videos much anymore.
@mseales How do you know that? Lyrics always have some some meaning, even if its "ooo baby baby" or whatever. I'm not saying i know what it is (just guessing) but it means something.
hey, I just read the Globe and Mail article about you, being cancelled at a stateside Christian school, thought I'd check your music out, lots of order here,, I like the bricks, you're good musicians, where was this filmed? dumb question, I'm just curious, I see lots of creativity, you just need to relax a little, was this written by a music teacher? I'm going to listen to your other stuff too, I hope you keep creating, Peace, Berig in Rochester
Some of their videos have been definite homages to various films, most notably "The Laws Have Changed" ("Simon of the Desert") and "Champions of Red Wine" ("Paris, Texas").
@SourceEngineFTW oooh dont you just love him fucking good mate! what bout cody simpso ft mgmt? innit bludddd hes like so peng, havina heavenly voice man, he sings like ma little sister mate and that turns me onnnn
This was my anthem for the "crash years" after the great recession of 2008. And now it's 2020 and its another crash year.
Same. Sadly never gets old, does it?
I like this video for two reasons.
1.) Great song
2.) I have an unreasonable obsession with colorful umbrellas.
Probably 15 of their songs make me cry and I don't know what any of them are about. What special people.
It's those manipulative chord changes.
This song makes me feel alive. Could listen on repeat for a long time.
I can't believe so few people find this video as adorable as I do!

It was written during a bad recession. Good call.
Pure pop perfection.
I thought you guys topped yourselves with "unguided" but this song drives to new happy madness. Thank you, so much.
"Drives *me* to new happiness"
best band ever and yet the most under rated
This is without doubt the most UNDERATED band...
They are simply superb, Blondie come close...but would there be these guys without them? Awwwww, both are A1,

Just a brilliant song.

You mentioned that you heard this in eastern L.I. I’m not familiar with L.I. Is that an abbreviation for a city (?)
@@agua9999 Long Island!!! 😵💫😵💫😵💫
That whistling part is stuck in my head.
I love this song. The video reminds me of a video OK Go would do. I'm bummed Coachella sold out so quick :(
one of the best canadian bands ever
I love it. It gets people's attention. Though many unfortunately will dismiss it just because of the name.
so glad i've found a nice band
and very nice video
this deserves more than 216,326 views.it should go viral!
It's almost 9 years after your Ur comment...and this video only has roughly 590.00 views 🥲
I don’t understand most people.
One of my favorite bands. Saw them live in 2007 and bought a ticket last week for their July 16 show in Portland.
Hearing a song by Neko Case today led me to to the New Pornographers. Like the song and the visuals. Once upon a time I might have quibbled, but nice is nice.
I saw them live today!
@tubenachos No accounting for taste - seems to me one of the most ingenious and beautifully simple videos I've seen in years. Granted, I don't watch videos much anymore.
Now that is some real good editing if I've ever seen it.
great, great, great song. I find myself whistling this all the time. Reminds me of the poppier stuff that SFA do

Did you comment this on all of the songs in this album? Jesus.
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg movie open credits used as a spin off nod and wink on the video . i do like this track.
Cool umbrellas!
Very nice, good luck
I feel like this song will randomly take off from being in a movie
my favorite song
Great tune. One more album sold today!
You can't go wrong with a heartwarming song together with a brilliantly directed video!
I just realised they reference a Smiths lyrics from 'Panic' in here! I love it even more now!
I wonder if OK Go! Took inspiration from this video. I don’t know how this is the first time I’m seeing it. I love this band…
Great tune! Good times..

I purposely raise my voice and talk about the new pornographers everytime a teacher passes me :)
So nice song
Cracked up at the blue people with blue dogs. Great video!
I can't be the only one who likes this video.
@electjenny Try switching the resolution to 480p. That worked for me.
best shit ever! :D so glad mt friend told me about them!
@mseales How do you know that? Lyrics always have some some meaning, even if its "ooo baby baby" or whatever. I'm not saying i know what it is (just guessing) but it means something.
this is awesome but i was kind of expecting the New Pornographers to walk across the screen also, you know? with their mics and guitars and stuff.
Remember hearing this at the gym and liking it alot. Haven't herd it for years now.
maybe you should hang with sheepdogs more often.
I love The New Pornographers!
@axelroach They're almost 12 years old now. :P
I WANT that peppermint umbrella!
whats the song called they have that music video and the gut is walking the llama? is this the same band?
@toxickatie holy crap..I thought that literally 10 minutes ago....
It's like synchronized swimming!
Now THAT'S indie rock!
where have i herd this at?
It's sad, but there's about 5 people browsing youtube without eyes or ears
Yes to both?
@paulsmartialarts It would be interesting if the video was re-edited at double speed.
hey, I just read the Globe and Mail article about you, being cancelled at a stateside Christian school, thought I'd check your music out, lots of order here,, I like the bricks, you're good musicians, where was this filmed? dumb question, I'm just curious, I see lots of creativity, you just need to relax a little, was this written by a music teacher? This is exactly like the opening to The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.
Some of their videos have been definite homages to various films, most notably "The Laws Have Changed" ("Simon of the Desert") and "Champions of Red Wine" ("Paris, Texas").
Cerys should have played this on BBC 6.
New Pornographers rule!
That's usually how these guys work.
I LISTEN TO SONG!

the video and the song is weird

the skirt's go up for the war
It's "before the war".
Does this bad remind anyone else of fleetwood mac? Just me? I dont know why.
It’s like the Mad World video if it weren’t so depressing!
Why can't everyday life be like this?
@xoxoparamore123 That's how I felt when I first started listening to Starfucker
Les Parapluies de Cherbourg(1964)

Fucking awesome this is!
Looks like the Distillery District.
@singsongs10 maybe you shouldn't require a song's correspondence to the constraint of 'nice' tyrannize your ability to enjoy.
this is cooler than guitar hero
Cutest shit ever =]
@lauren0619xD hahahaha
