    Amazing. Although I am budgetarily restricted to Fusion, you have the most thorough and comprehensive compositing tutorials/breakdowns. The technics are for the most part universal, but really helpful for learning "how" to think. Also, they are fun to watch! Hugo, I love your deconstructies. And even learn some new little nick nacks, that I’m like: “wow, that’s clever I need to remember that”, such as the light from the swords doing it in Nuke with lights attached to axis. It’s a quick clever hack that avoids going back to 3D. Very clever! And I love your voice it’s very comforting and relaxing to watch.
    I also like cinematics because they are stylized which I like. I don’t have the patients to play video games. But Iike watching people play and seeing the cinematics.

    Huge thanks Hugo, as always. One question: you left the shutter offset of your scanline render node at "start". I learned that "center" gives the accurate filmic response. Also, I wonder how RedShift would approach this. Thank you!
    EDIT: Oh, and one thing I would have done instead of animating the frost merge mix is an animated noise for the alpha input of the merge, so as the noise size increases over time, the frost grows.
    Just for throwing something into the ring here.

    Can I ask why did you use the log2lin before the lens distortion? What's the reason for transforming the gamma curve before a lens distort? . Your videos are a great value to our community, I hope you don't stop uploading great content now that you also have a private course! Of course I hope you do really well with them, but there will always be people willing and able to pay for your time even if you make some great free tutorials too.

  • @zuzamilos
    @zuzamilos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Hugo, nice breakdown as always. Like your workflow and mindset on the compositing. I have a brief question if you have time for it, why the log to lin before the lens distortion?

    • @HugosDesk
      @HugosDesk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for the kind words. I usually do a Log2Lin when I do extreme transforms (like a lens distortion of a wide lens) this is just a safety measure to make sure I don't get any pixels below 0. If you do sharpen and transforms without some kind of "lift" on black you can get a lot of black edges and negative values. Maybe I should make a video about this someday.

    • @zuzamilos
      @zuzamilos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your response Hugo, I encountered similar problems in the past and I have use it, but not like this, thanks for the tip ;) Keep up with what you are doing, you are very good at! Hi, thanks again for this video!
    I wonder why on the frost effect (and other scanlineRender you use), you don't use vectorBlur to rendre motion blur, as it is supposed to be faster than rendering it directly in the scanlineRender node ?
    Great video once again, keep going :D

    • @HugosDesk
      @HugosDesk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is faster but the motion blur is less exact than the scanline. The Vector Blur goes a bit nuts with Z Movement. I really recommend the Motion Blur from the RayTracer. It will match the CG more than the Vector Blur.

    wow man! thaaanks for a complete video like this, love it!!...i have a question, maybe a long one, i'm so so confused, i can model (80%), can rig (49%), can animate (70%), can do some compositing in Nuke (20%) and AE (60%), but i'm confuse, i'm trying to get a lot of information, trying to learn more about modeling, animation, rigging, redenring and compositing, but as we all know there's a looooot of things to learn about that, what do you recommend to me to focus on?, i love modeling, but i love animation too, but heey i really love compositing (VFX)...you as a VFX artist, you know all that (animate, modeling, etc) or just you got all your focus on compositing (vfx)? pls need your help on that

    • @apmanti12
      @apmanti12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      im not as experienced as hugo, but i can tell ya, that if you plan to work in a real vfx house, you will need to focus on something specific, like nuke compositing, vfx companies dont use ae for compositing. if you wanna go freelance route then learn little bit of everything.

    • @HugosDesk
      @HugosDesk  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks, It depends what you are after. If you want to work in Film then you need to pick one and specialize. If you are in a commercial facility then being a generalist is great. So the question is: What do you want?
