The entire cast is brilliant, but she was just so amazing! 👌 When she changed from sad and worn-out to happy and bubbly at the well, that was award-worthy.
Vanessa, after hearing how Dallas re-arranged shooting schedules to give you the chance to portray Photina.. God bless him that he did. Your portrayal of this woman broke my heart.. when you state "I am rejected by others" .. it hits deep. And when Jonathan follows with "I know.. but not by the Messiah", yeh waterworks every time. The acting in this series is exceptional and Dallas saw that in you. So, thank you for having applied for this role.. its so beautifully done. God bless!

I have never seen a scene about the woman at the well in any Jesus movie. And I have seen a lot. This is so moving and so special. I find myself watching it over and over. As a multi season show is convenient to portray this scene. In 100 minutes long movie nope. Few movies portray the cleansing of the Temple and none portray Salome asking Jesus to have her sons besides Jesus in Heaven.

Me too. I've never seen the woman at the well in any of the many Jesus movies I've seen in my lifetime. I've played it over & over too. In fact I've played many scenes over & over -& played the DVDs over & over too. The Chosen is such a wonderful series. It's the most real & authentic & beautiful portrayal of Christ & the disciples - & those they encounter, that I've ever seen. It brings the beautiful Bible stories to life. It's life-changing for Christians & non-Christians alike. I'm so thankful for the way its been done - as well as the wonderful interviews with the actors & with Dallas - as well as the making of each series - even Dallas explaining so much to us. We're really made to feel like 'one big family'. What a blessing.❤
I heartily thank Vanessa for her wonderful portrayal and equally thank Dallas for making sure she had the opportunity by recognizing the need of getting her involved to use her tremendous insight into Photina's person and, lastly, for the great unity of approach between her and Jonathan playing Jesus to do great justice to the scene between what I will call "two powerhouse characters." I am so glad that Season 2 will take up the story with all in the Samaritan town!

Vanessa, your performance as Photina is the most moving performance by a female actress that I have ever seen and I must say “experienced”. So excellent was your portrayal of the woman at the well. The dripping sarcasm reveals her broken heart as she lives out her daily pain. This has always been a favorite passage and every time I watch it there are tears. Awesome. Through a woman did YESHUA first announce HIS Messiahship. The performance of all of the actors, and specifically the woman at the well was so marvelous, it truly touched my heart deeply and think of it often.
Loved Vanessa's part as the woman at the well. I always knew this story in the Bible but it was portrayed so much better than I could ever imagine.
I also want to say that her scene is the most heart warming and touching scenes in The Chosen for me. One thing that my wife always says to me... "Do you love me?" (I say yes) then she replies, "You promise?" And Photina says it exactly the way my wife has said it to me numerous times before and it just breaks my heart. It is beautiful to hear Jesus respond to a broken womans fear and turns it into unfathomable joy!

What a great interview, Steve! Vanessa was so lovely in giving her insight into the role of Photina and is so relatable. I arrived late to The Chosen. I'm grateful to Dallas Jenkins for gifting everyone a biblical series that is shockingly relatable. Vanessa and Jonathan were wonderful together.
Her scene is the most moving of all the amazing moments I've seen so far in 'The Chosen' - I cannot imagine that it was not exceptionally affecting for Jonathan Roumie as well - I laugh and sob every time I watch this, and Vanessa's vulnerability and honesty, and the compassion that flows through Jonathan are pure gospel for me. (It's a fine and subtle touch, too, that Magdalene fully understands what's happened, while the men are perplexed.). 'I was counting on it' is not in the Bible, but it's surely in the heart of Jesus and everyone who shares God's holy love.
Vanessa and Erick's scenes with Jesus (Jonathan) were the most moving of the show for me. Great interview Steve, thank you.

I found Vanessa's portrayal of the woman at the well truly sublime. I've watched the performance several times over and it never fails to fill me with inexorable hope and joy that Christ offers us no matter how far we may have strayed from his love in this world.

What an awesome interview (and not just because one of my questions got asked :-) )! I loved hearing about Vanessa's family, how she got the role and what it meant to her. I have watched the scene of the woman at the well so many times and her portrayal is so stunning and I Cry. Every. Time! Every eye movement, placement of your hands, every sound you utter (my favorite is the nervous laugh), every word spoken (especially when you speak over Jesus), the flip from shame to realization to pure joy, is just perfect! I sure hope the redeemed Photina is back with her fellow Samaritans in Season 2!

The scene at the well is one of the most powerful tv moments I've ever seen. The energy, eagerness, emotion, it all carried right into the screen. There are so many great scenes from this show after three seasons and this one hits near the very top. It's something I'll never forget.

What a lovely person, so genuine and kind, full of energy and honesty. No wonder that scene is so viscerally powerful, the interaction between two very talented and committed actors.
Season 1 has many many amazing moments... however, this scene at the well is one I have watched 15 or so times. This is one of my favorite moments in the New Testament and they brought it to life so beautifully.
Her acting was amazing as Photina as well as the makeup. Most TV shows show people who are enduring a situation, apocalypse/zombies/etc., seem to have perfect "unwashed" hair and no greasy skin. Vanessa and the makeup team really made her look realistic in her situation. I really felt empathy for the character

Yes this was the best portrayal of the well scene ever. She brings the character to life. She puts realistic dimensions to this person where as other times it seems more one dimensional. My favorite scene btw.

she played a part from the bible. that in itself is mind blowing.. she represents so many women in many sins and to know they can be cleaned away by repenting is the gift from above.. never miss the message.. the well story has always been a favourite of mine, I also love the story about legion. so this women at the well story is close to my heart and she played the part brilliantly..

I love this interview! I have watched The Chosen's woman at the well portrayal more times than takes she did on it.
To think how Jesus actually went to the Samaritans who were rejected by the other Jews and then to this woman who is actually rejected by the Samaritans. And Jesus chooses her to clearly state that he is the Messiah. His love brings me to tears. And the Chosen's line when she said she was rejected by others and then Jesus says
"I know, but not by the Messiah."
Wow! Just Wow! Those are added words but they so accurately describe exactly what Jesus showed to this rejected woman.
Love the interview and so much of it will only enhance watching again. But I did have to laugh at them stating that God is bilingual. Gotta be one of the biggest understatements on youtube :)

If I recommend anyone to watch The Chosen, I now start with episode 8 of season 1 because of Vanessa's performance. For me i surpassed Erick Avari's Nicodemus encounter with Jesus.
