This is super helpful, always wondered how automations worked! Seems similar to setting a template for a view, but definitely more powerful depending on the use. I'll remember to keep my automations simple so it doesn't mess any pages up!
I actually just use pinterest and google to find things that work with what I have on hand or with weekly sales so I don't have a sharable list, unfortunately! Pinterest has a lot of drool-worthy ideas, though, and I recommend it for meal planning inspiration though. :)
I'm very grateful to you for this channel, and I'm very happy I found and binged it. This may be the best video on Notion in the whole youtube space. I'm an autistic migrant during war time in my country and I'm going through a lot of stress because of that, and planning is my coping mechanism, but Notion is somewhat complicated to master even though I'm not a complete newcomer. If you could please go through your personal dashboard in more detail, I'd really appreciate. And also your aesthetic is really pleasing, and your video about the main screen of the phone and how to change the apps' icons mesmerised me. So, maybe you have some more cute tips about aesthetisising (I'm really not sure whether this word exists, English is not my mother tongue, sorry) our digital spaces - that'd be really cool. It's not a demand at all, but maybe you were looking for ideas and requests. Once again, thank you wholeheartedly for your channel, and happy holidays! Let your new year be better in all regards than the previous one
I’m glad that you have found some solace in planning. That is very challenging. I do have a much more close look at my dashboard in this video: th-cam.com/video/viJX4V4fSRE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7NCRQOMHyGTvzE5H. And thank you for your kind words about the aesthetics! I do tuck little tips into my videos and will keep this in mind as I create more.
I know I am very late (3rd time watching) but is there a step where we could have "date last made" show up in Gallery view? Or perhaps as some people do, assign each day of week to a particular day of week, such as on Fridays, my mother's weekly menus already had "must goes" on Friday. If we had a day (usually Saturday) where we ordered out, it was on her menu list. Now that I look back, it was each child was supposed to have a week each, appropriately aged, to do the cooking. I loved the other kids weeks because it was my dad and I who did the cooking. Anyway, is there a way to automate that.... I am think I figured it out. I am going to go check.
I was just trying to figure out how to keep dates in my meal planner… in other words I want to be able to know we had pizza 3 weeks ago and again today. Is that something you think an automation would do?
I think the best way to do this would NOT be to use an automation actually. I’ll respond to your email with a Loom screenshare video to show you what I’m thinking would work!
I'm sorry, but I find the whole weekly "what's in the fridge?" thing utterly absurd. If you're the mess officer aboard a cruise ship, then sure, that makes sense. But just for a household... wouldn't it be a lot simpler to just put down the phone, walk over to the fridge and see what's in there? If you need things to be organized, then organize them in rows and columns inside the fridge, like people have done for decades. Surely, it's a lot less mental stress, too. Gotta convserve your brain power for more important things. I think Notion is great and all, I just got on board myself, but I'm starting to see the Maslow effect here. Lordy, I really do hope you ain't creating databases for cereal-box nutritional facts, too! If you're a nutritionist or a culinary student, maybe. But planning every aspect of your life right down to what you eat weekly. That just doesn't leave room for magic anymore.
The great thing is, whatever lifestyle each individual has, we have the ability to create workflows that maximize our time and energy! For some of us, magic is found in different forms, and sometimes these lists are the reason we have brain energy for other things. But what I love that we don't all operate in the same way or need the same things to find that magic, and I like hearing how meal planning works for you and others who do things differently!
This was super helpful. I’d love to see that video showing the difference between use cases for templates, buttons, & automations.
Thanks! ❤
Thank you for the kind words! And great idea. I'll keep this in mind as I plan future videos!
Would love to see new vid that shows examples of when you would use each automation type 🙂 great vid!
Thank you for the suggestion! I will keep this in mind. :)

The meals in your planner look delicious. Are you able to share the conent with us?

Wanna know. I have watched a lot of automation videos and this clicked. Thank you!
Fantastic to hear this! Thank you so much.

Cool ideas!

At the end it sounded like maybe you already figured this out? Let me know if you didn't figure it out!
This is amazing!
I still can't believe you've gotten me into Notion. 😂
🤣🤣

@@KalynBrookeCo thank you so much!!
It perplexes me that everyone says "zapier" like "day-pier" when it's a play on zap (tap, dap, lap) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks for the feedback on the pronunciation! 👌🏽
