It is crazy how Sanjay Dutt himself has been upfront about his mistakes, but Hirani loves him so much that he created total fiction. I know that the movie did very well in box office, but it would have been a more compelling one in my view if it showed a person struggling, making mistakes and becoming a better person.
They never mentioned sanjay dutts first wife in the movie
Nothing about his first wife, his daughter, any of the other wives and multiple affairs. Sanju was practically painted by Hirani showing Sanjay Dutt as a victim.

I cried like a fool in the cinema hall while i was watching Sanjay Dutt's biopic. Later i realized that most of it was a huge lie which was shown to whitewash the actor's image. God, I hated myself and the director after that.

The thing is - as 90's kids, we wished to see two things in Indian Cinema - Sequels & Biopics (If you remember there were hardly any MAJOR sequels in Bollywood before Krrish in 2006). And the fun part is NOW Bollywood only relies on Sequels and Biopics ! When something sells well, people just rapidly produce such content which results in a fall in quality. This is what has happened to Biopics (in addition to the MOTIVE of producers, in some cases ;) ). It would be better if they simply portray the character as they are - GURU did a good job at that. The Social Network, The Founder, Steve Jobs(2015), The Aviator are some of the perfect examples of how you don't need to whitewash a character to make a good biopic. And honestly, portraying the grey sides of an inspirational person doesn't harm their image, it simply makes them more relatable.

Dangal: Just to make the Father more Heroic, they made the coach antagonist in the last part discrediting all of his contribution.
The film was great for the first half only.
Plus the father had virtually forced his daughters into wrestling. I hated it when the girls are lectured by the other girl who's getting married that how they have it better because at least their father is not trying to get them married (or something). And then both the girls have this kind of expression on their face like "oh our father is actually a great man, we are so awful to be doing this to him". Yeah, obviously, it's super progressive to command your daughter's whole lives instead of getting them married forcefully. Both are bad ugh. I can just go on about this movie. The girls used to be so physically tired that they couldn't focus in class and would keep falling asleep. It's shown in a funny way but it's awful. If the girls could choose their own career, allowed to focus on studies, they would most probably be doing something else rather then wrestling. I have nothing against wrestling but people have to understand that it was not their natural choice (at least according to how the film portrays it). And most importantly, their father made a seemingly progressive choice for his own selfish reasons, he's not a saint. He might as well have gotten them married like the rest has it not been for "his" dream of winning gold for India. In this way, the daughters just become an extension of himself.

Sanju deserves a 1 hour episode for reminding us that how conveniently we have forgotten the history of Mumbai blasts and how SD was in deep contact with perpetrators. In Kesari, the film wrongly infuses patriotism when there was no such concept. The Sikhs were simply doing their duties and no Sikh now or before kept free flowing beard in army.

Soon, there will be a biopic of Ananya Panday having an life of her struggle in her acting career and talking about his father Chunky Pandey’s life as well. There will be a biopic on Salman Khan showing that he didn’t only shot the blackbuck or driving car while getting drunk and kill people.. the blackbuck was trying to kill his family.. and Salman takes revenge for his family’s death and kill the blackbuck. On the other side, there is also a hit and run case of Salman where he drinks alcohol while driving a car and murdered innocent people for some reasons.
In this regards, I admire Mani Ratnam for his way of story telling. He makes completely fictional biopics inspired by real people. For eg , Iruvar (1997) Tamil film inspired by late South star MGR and Guru (2007) Hindi film inspired by Dhirubhai Ambani. Both the films had fictional characters and stories inspired by real life events. This way the director's cinematic liberty can be justified.

Special mention to Mary Kom which was an extended advertisement of tata salt, iodex, Intex etc in the name of biopic. It shows her child was undergoing operation during the boxing final (in real both the incidents were unrelated). It bypassed the political connection of her father in law and the role it played in her premature retirement after his alleged murder.

Missed Dangal i guess, they showed an indian coach tried to stop Pogat sir for watching his daughter's match, In a way they put an ridiculed image of an indian coach in front of the world just to have a dramatic climax which was over the top by the way. Also the plot where lead character falling for someone and loosing the focus on the play is so overly used in other movies like BMB, sala khadus and many more.

Mangal Pandey might have inaccuracies but it deserved more critically and economically...underrated movie of Aamir's career...Another one being the masterpiece 1947 Earth...These two movies were quite engaging to me...

Also the RDX story was a lie though he might not be a terrorist still RDX was found at sanju's place
No matter what is shown in the movie, the fact whivh makes me happy is that Sanjay Dutt is not backing any of the lies shown and is not playing the victim, like *Yeah, that's what happened and that's how my life became a total mess*
He *actually* has the confidence to confess and come clean regarding whatever his own activities were.
