    Fantastic tutorial!
    Not sure if someone's already commented on this, but a good rule-of-thumb is ALWAYS pre-tin your wires and solder pads, it makes for better and stronger joints :)

    "Lights are awesome, sadly it's a little too difficult topic to explain everything in just one video."
    TH-cam allows 10 hour videos, so it would be possible. Should have worded it different, options:
    >"Lights are awesome, sadly it's a little too difficult topic to explain everything in just one SHORT video."

    • @AgentIzzy35
      @AgentIzzy35 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      She does this for a living. You want free content- she literally shows off a guide she gets off of google. Would you seriously sit through a 10 hour video on LEDs? Even uni students take a 10-12 hour course spread across multiple days. She already has a video on LEDs for cosplay purposes, I am sure she will be posting tons of LED videos in the future that will elaborate on all aspects of LEDs for unique constructions and cosplays.
      This was a great video- it was enjoyable to see how she programs her LEDs and alters the code in a very clear display of a screen capture.

    • @spork861
      @spork861 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      AgentIzzy35 I know she does this for a living. I know there is free content out there that shows everything. I was just criticizing her grammar or choice of words, because it seems like she was acting it's ACTUALLY impossible to teach the majority of it in a video.
      Also, I'm pretty sure she wont be "posting tons of LED videos in the future that will elaborate on all aspects of LEDs for unique constructions and cosplays.", because look at her video history, she barely uploads, and usually makes only about 1 or 2 videos per topic, and considering she already did some LED videos I doubt she will be making a LOT more, especially after she said all of it will be explained in her book instead.
      The video itself is great.

      @TheFlauschig 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      So you are nitpicking AND criticizing the grammar/choice of words of someone who does not have English as their native language. ;)

    • @spork861
      @spork861 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      SomeSeal No, she knows enough English, and it wasn't like it was a case of difficult to use Englisch. She even knows enough English to explain wiring and simple programming, so don't give me that bullshit. And yes duh I'm criticizing the grammar/choice of words, I even said so earlier "I was just criticizing her grammar or choice of words".
      By the way, English is not my native language and I'm German too ;;)))))))))))))

    • @spork861
      @spork861 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, came here to see what the new uploaded video is since I'm subscribed, and her sentence just annoyed me because it WOULD be possible to explain almost all of it in a video, even if its a damn long video (even if its just the majority of the basics). She said it like its a fact, which is what annoyed me.

    This is a great video, but you could consider pre-tinning the wires before soldering, or even using connectors. Personally I pre-tin all wires, use connectors where I can for easy assembly and disassembly and use many sizes of heatshrink tubing, of course black and red to match power and ground, and other random colors for other wires, like data. I also use hot glue inside the heatshrink tubing to ensure stress relief on the solder joint. A little drop fills the entire tubing. It's excessive, but clean and sturdy job is important to me. No hanging wires or straight to board connections without stress relief.

    • @johnuferbach9166
      @johnuferbach9166 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dream with shades of red green and blue you can do any color :x you can adjust the brigthness of each of the colored leds until the color looks like the one you need... for example no blue and red and green at the same amount looks like yellow (thats also how screens work btw)

    Everything ive read says that you should put a resistor on that data line to help minimize noise, Ive run them without and not had a problem, but I always put one in anyway.
    It looks like the way you have wired it is using the voltage regulator on the microcontroller. You can get away with it with a few LEDs, but Ive found that when you do it, it really heats up the voltage regulator. Ive changed my designs to use the 5v on the USB jack for the LEDs, it bypasses the voltage regulator. I feed the device with 5v from a phone charger power bank device.
    When you strip wires for soldering, you should tin them, then trim the leads down so that you have very little exposed wire, it helps prevent shorting, which can be a really big deal when its the main power wires.

    • @KamuiCosplay
      @KamuiCosplay  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know thanks! It's not really necessary however since I'm using a low voltage power source. So I neither need a resistor nor a capacitor between the data pins. :) I also did it with 18 meter (around 600 pixels) of LED strip and it's not a problem. :)

    Love your work! Questions: how do you charge the battery pack? This setup is exactly what I was looking for. If I follow this how long will the battery last and is this setup only for one strip of the LED, for example can a longer strip be used for this battery size? Can any brand of LED strip be used with the ardafruit booster and trinket? Thanks so much!

    • @Mikey8567
      @Mikey8567 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as your question about charging the battery. You will see the powerbooster/charger regulator board at 2:02 on it you will see on the right a micro USB connector (used to charge it via wall, computer, powerbank supply), the connector on the top is for the battery to plug into and on the left is the power output side. This little board is a great board because it allows you to not only power a device with the battery (regulated 5 vdc) but you can also be charging the battery while it's still running the circuit your working on. Also when you get this regulator/charging board it comes with a normal sized USB socket that can be soldered in place on that left side if you looking to plug a regular USB cable into it to power something.

      Hey Alexander! You can use only one strip and seperate them into two sections or use two different pins. You also need to write a code for every section/pin. It's quite hard to explain and I'm not an expert, but www.adafruit.com offers great tutorials, so hopefully you can find there some help! :)

      Alexander Heeren you can also just use them as one strip and habe them have different effects... you can just apply changes to led 1-15 (for example) without changing what led 16-30 are doing^^

      @@watermellon452 I just don't like the world "nerd" like It's some "cool" thing. Being a nerd is not a good thing, people need to evolve. And to be true, 100% of people who call themself Nerd, are the ones who have nothing to do with it. "I know Ohm's law, I am such a nerd." ect

      @@thombaz But you also have to understand that the overall definition of the term has changed over time due to social media. It's more about someone who is passionate for a specific platform that's not common among the mainstream such as football or... some Kardashian shit. Trust me I get it, I hate it when people wave their "I'm a nerd" flag in everyones face being the attention seeker they are, especially when their actions oppose said self proclaimed title, but ig "nerds" aren't just those who are smart anymore. It can be anyone. I could type all day about the parallels between the different types and retrospect of nerds but why bother... it's the internet...

    You should put a list of the supplies you use in your videos. It would be VERY helpful.
