There's no parallel to this movie ! Its brilliant. The best brains in the industry came together to put up this out of this world production. The actors, the story, the locales, the music and the special effects every thing about this is truly outstanding. I watched it for a 1000 times and still not really had enough of it. The devotion and the zeal in making this masterpeice can not be matched by todays technology dominant industry. Where no body dares ! That's it.
where Eagles dare is 1 of my favourite films it's great to hear the behind the scenes stories in my eyes it's a classic a very underrated film it's so brilliant
I was happy to hear them talk about the stunts in the movie. Eddie Powell was my "daddy" when I was an au-pair in England in 1976-77. He was very proud of his work in this film. He also talked a lot of his brother Joe, of course.
I'm not a big war movie fan but this movie is quite unique and special. I was fortunate to see this in a cinema when it was doing a re-release in the late 70s in NZ.
Ron Goodwin did such s rousing score. I'm glad I've got the original soundtrack along with Operation Crossbow on 2 discs. I also saw Ron Goodwin conduct the Halle Orchestra in Manchester Lancs. Quite stirring seeing jim conduct many works I still have a cd actually signed by him 0:08 I also have the film on Blu-ray. It doesn't date.
She is right, the technology they use now no matter how advanced still makes the effects look fake, they always have this fake vibe which that lack of in this film is what makes this film amazing... God bless those stuntmen who did one helluva job, and the overall crew of this movie
Great war movie never seen. In the 1969 here in Italy. And after by VHS and after by DVD. Really adventursome and fascinating through spectacular locations. And great soundtrack from Ron Goodwin and his Orchestra. Never tired watching this movie.
I can remember seeing it when it first came out in Luton. at half time I had seen all I expected to see, it was that good. Best war film ever made, everything went right didn't it. It always makes me feel cold watching it. One of my favourite films, terrific entertainment, great cast and scenery, well worth a watch, it will never date.
Derren Nesbit lives near me. He once told me a raft of hilarious stories about WED. It's my favourite film ever. I saw it at the cinema in 1969 and have watched it every year since. ♥
My late father in law, H A R (Bob) Thomson was second unit cameraman on this film and I have a picture of him on top of the cable car with his camera. Amazing film.
Yes, he did Kelly's Hero's among many, many films. Great friends with Dirk Bogart among others. During the war he was in the navy as a cameraman in the back of a Swordfish bi-plane filming over enemy lines, quite a hero himself.
I am very curious, in regards to the wardrobe department, The tailored fit of the uniforms of all these actors looked amazing. What was the name of the company, that actually made the uniforms, I assume it was somewhere in England ?.
I believe it was Bermans & Nathans. It’s very possible they might have been existing items that they tailored. As well as making costumes they had a large quantity of original items.
Where Eagles Dare is one of my favorite films and this guy has a done a brilliant job, going to Austria and finding out the locations where various scenes were shot, including the castle, the railway station and the cable car station ! th-cam.com/video/oFrDxOSI31k/w-d-xo.html
What a shame that a potentially interesting examination of this film is ruined by the vain self-centred performance of Ms Kastner. Glad that Anthony Waye called her ' a little punt' - that seemed to stop her antics.
Milica Kastner was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and stage 4 uterine sarcoma - a rare cancer of the uterus - in February 2019 and was told she had 'six months to live' if she didn't have treatment and '33 months' if she did. She passed away in March 2021.
I have asked several times but have never gotten a decent answer....... WHY did the blood look SO Bad in WED.? Maybe it looked good in real life but not transfer well to film.? It looked bright Red and Thick in the movie.
EXCELLENT REPORT About The Movie Adaptation Of One Of My Late Father-inLaw "Alistair MacLean" Most Popular Bestselling Novels! Thank you again. Best regards. MarieMadeleine MacLean, Author Of The Critically Acclaimed Bestselling Paranormal Thriller "RACE. The Colour Of SHAME"...
Never. Cain was in The Eagle Has Landed, and he's flat and sounded more drunk than Burton when actually drunk. Cockney is not as good as Welsh, for a double agent.
Seen it many times growing up, watched it recently but turned it off halfway through, pure hokum like the same director's 'Kelly's Heroes'. To call either a 'war film' is ludicrous, if you want to see a war film watch 'All Quiet On The Western Front' from 1930 or possibly the best British war film 'Went The Day Well?' or Peckinpah's 'Cross Of Iron'. 'Where Eagles Dare' is trashy nonsense & no more a war film than 'The Dirty Dozen' or that Tarantino atrocity. Mind you, aren't most 'war films' both completely unrealistic & morally dubious? War is about suffering & death, it's not about Clint Eastwood wisecracking as he kills his 100th Nazi without suffering a scratch, accompanied by a disabled Welsh drunk & a couple of dolly birds. Anton Diffring was forever playing Nazis, despite being both jewish & gay. Never have understood why the suffering & killing of tens of millions was turned into an entertainment industry.
Only film that I can watch over again, and enjoy it as much as the previous screening.
_Truly brilliant film._
Ditto
Sit down! Gary, until I figure out whatz going on here!
@@defiverr4697noooo! "Wod egzagly is goin on heer!" Lol
@@johnmortimerjbmfitness7753 greatest Nazi movie ever, next to Guns of Navarrone.
Burton was absolutely magnetic in ‘this film and a special mention to Derren Nesbitt so cold and intimidating great film
One of the best movies ever made - there is no limit to the number of times I can watch it.
I totally agree with you.
Me too

@@Useaname - not really, but the fight on the roof of the cabin was "scary"!
One of the most re-watchable films ever made.
Wonderful to hear these recollections - thanks BFI!
I could have listened for an hour more..
Only war film I can rewatch unlimited times. Brilliant! This is excellent, thank you.
Yes. I can also watch The Guns of Navarone, Operation Crossbow and Ice Cold in Alex over and over.

Thank the Lord this panel wasn't parachuted in, in our time of need.

Wow, I think I I saw him credited on Kelly’s Heroes as well!

We learned so many new interesting facts, from that conversation. Congrats (and i really enjoyed Elliot's wife).
for me the snow & half light were major players .
That was great. Thank you. I love this film.
Burton would have been a great James Bond in 1962. This is as close as he got and its the best ww2 action flick.
Kastners daughter acts like she worked on the movie. Why is she there at all? Lol

Hugo Boss could probably give you a few pointers.......

How about some company releasing a deluxe 4k edition of the movie?
THIS!
I have just started reading the novel!
I loved this film been castle in Austria best place ever

Have some respect. She died 2 years ago at age 49.

Pity Melicia Kastner keeps interrupting the other guests...
Yes, and a pity she knows nothing about how to use a microphone.
agreed, totaly spoilt it for me.
I expect she's great fun at parties
Great film average Q & A Elliott Kastner,s daughter was nothing but a pain in the arse to put it nicely
Agreed. Mouth almighty.
Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood in the snow, what more do you need for God sake ; p
"Heidi has ben one of our top agents in Bavaria since 1941 and ,er, (looks at Heidi's breasts)...what a disguise!"
Thank you.
I believe front projection was used in Kind Hearts and Coronets in 1948?
Kubrick used front projection in a few scenes of 2001...
Very engrossing clip!
I kept on watching this because I wanted to see what the blonde lady in the middle was going to do next.
Meeeeeeeee, its all about meeeeeeee
@@marksbikeexports5123 not to mention swallowing the microphone. Man, had to keep turning the volume down!
This movie is the cousin of On her majesty’s secret service
Interesting thought. I’d enjoy reading it fleshed out.
Why is the fierce-faced woman shouting into the microphone from inches away? Didn't she notice that no one else did that?
i zeem to remember zee cathedral waz onz tha odda zide oz zee square?

Brilliant

The ‘Bernard Himmler’ moment… 👌
Probably the best ww2 film ever.
Tied with Kelly's Heroes for me. Both directed by Brian G Hutton.
Guns of Navarrone 1, WED, 1.0000000000000001
Who's the blonde on the right/in the middle???
Wait - in closeup, she's distinctly mannish.
Hell no she aint. She’s good looking for her age.
Someone tell that woman in the middle she doesn't have to eat the microphone
She wouldn't have to if the panelists had been properly mic'd. The horrible microphone placement is not her fault.
Once a punk, always a punk.
Great movie

Sadly Milica died last year and had cancer just after this apparently very sad, only 49
Who’s the blonde in the middle? Mary?
The actress who played Mary died decades ago. Eileen Mary Ure died in 1975. Former wife of Shaw.
She is quite a handful.
No question very watchable but let’s face it also very silly.
Agreed, it's pure hokum, boy's own nonsense & not the 'great war film' many commenters seem to think it is.
The daughter, trying way too hard to be relevant.
Why the hell they had kastner daughter ..she knows nothing about the movie
Who's the annoying woman?
