I love this dude. As a black men growing up without a father or male figure it’s a struggle to find myself and who I am. I’m homeless living in a car and just obtained my real estate license and is now working with Keller Williams. Thanks to my adopted fathers like Jocko Willink and David Goggins. I’m in the gym, flipping tires. Taking cold showers. I’ve cut rap music out I read 30 mins a day. It’s discouraging waking up in a parking lot every morning. But listening to these guys made me realize to develop myself I have to do things that suck. And ever since my confidence went up. I literally go to bed with a headphones in my ears with David Goggins or Jocko playing on repeat so they’re tough guy ways changes my core being subconsciously. Thank you 🙏🏾 😊 for being an example. I’m gonna get better And by the way no drugs. I’m paying off $50000 and being homeless is a choice. My plan is become completely debt free within a year and half ATTITUDE CHECK
Good man, your story sounds like mine, Im living in my van but working hard and building my future, Jocko ,Echo, Goggins, Jorden Peterson make it a lot easier. Onwards and upward dude
My Father was a POW in Korea for 2 and half years, 20 years later I was there ,and 30 years later my son. 3 generations. My dad was a little recalcitrant as a POW and was transferred to various POW CAMPS throughout North Korea. Eventually ending up in the Northern most POW camp. My Father's most favorite quote, " You have never lived until you have almost died, For those who fight for it, Life has a flavor the protected will never know." Dad died 4 Jan. 2009 at the Marion VA Medical Center nursing home. His nightmares finally ceased. Thank you and Your staff for your podcasts, and all that you've helped. Appreciate you. K9FFK9
Col. Richardson went home May 11, 2021 surrounded and supported by his loving family at their home in Fayetteville, NC at the age of 91. Semper Fi and rest easy sir!
Truthfully, unless a really special director was at the helm, it would just be another Hollywood over-glorification of violence. The human element is what's making this story what it is, not the violence. There is a reason Saving Private Ryan is one of a kind.
@Jacko you should do the audio version of this book. You'd do it justice by the way you auditory skills. Great podcast. Bill Richardson was an incredible man. RIP
Awesome! On the subject of Project Delta. My uncle was with SF in Vietnam. After he passed, I received some plaques and his original jump wings and his flash off his beret. One of the plaques was from his time spent in Project Delta. Later on, I happened to be reading Hunting the Jackal by Billy Waugh and he spoke highly of my uncle in his book. I had no idea that my uncle spent so much time in MACV SOG. He only spoke of being in Vietnam by saying, I was there before it was “Vietnam” and I was there after it was “Vietnam.” Meaning he was there before the war and after it. He never spoke of it again and the only thing I could do, as a kid, was imagine what he did by looking at the army combat diver’s plaque, Project Delta plaque and other plaques I cannot remember on his walls. My mother told me he would come home on leave and he wouldn’t eat meat.

Da Boosta It sucks not being able to know the heroes close to us.
A buddy of mine from my days as an 11B who eventually became an infantry company commander had all of his leadership read the Task Force Smith chapter from the Max Hastings book The Korean War and summarize it. The lessons learned there hit hard and were hard learned. There was a top down breakdown in leadership that led to frantic and terror filled unorganized retreat. Imagine being a 19 year old PFC and seeing your battalion commander running past your machine gun position, his eyes wide as a horse in a barn fire, shouting "Every man for himself!" How do you not also lose your shit?
Guy goes to Korea, his platoon endured the worst, gets promoted to master sergeant within 2 months, doesn’t get adequate support from the army, gets surrounded by the Chinese, endures 3 days of getting waves of Chinese, gets captured, endures years of being a POW while 30 American soldiers die a day, comes back home to re enlist and becomes an officer in the army special forces and goes to Vietnam, lays some foundation for modern spec ops that later jocko would learn..... goddamn!
This is probably the single most insane story I have ever heard in my life. And I've listened to most of these podcasts. Jocko, I can't thank enough for bringing this to light. I'm speechless. I'm getting this book right now.
Jocko, I know you don't read this but the guy who read the message was Daniel Henry Giroux (Pronounced ji-roo) and he is my Grandfather who has been with Jesus for a long time now. His widow, My dear Grandmother Florence Margret Giroux passed on Sunday at my mother's house. And auto-play played this podcast in my shop this morning. So to hear you tell a story I'd heard many times as a child broke me down man. Thanks Jocko, God is good but I selfishly want them back.
This story reminds me of when I read Marcus Lutrell's second book "Service" where he tells about how he made another deployment after the "Lone Survivor" deployment! Unbelievable what these guys do for us!
This channel is one of my top 3 favs. Great topics, great discussions, great host. Jocko truly has thumos, what the ancient Greeks defined as a man with a chest.
The situation of the man in the latrine scene, when he realized that he had to make his mind his strength, is the same as when Jordan Peterson said that in the Gulag Archipelago, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, realized that he was partially responsible for the situation he was in, and he had some something, multiple things, in part, to cause him to end up in the situation he found himself in, within the camp. So he went over his life identifying every mistake he made, and thought about how he could possibly rectify those mistakes in the present. When you realize, that you aren't a victim, but also a partial perpetrator of your own suffering, and also the suffering of others, you realize that this complacency and weakness is only making your situation worse, and making other's situation worse. That is when you can start to right things and turn things around.
First heard Jocko on Rogan now I am hooked. I listened to the podcast and I wanted to see what Echo looked like and I am surprised. Echo has the voice of a young intern but looks like the top level boss in a streets of rage type game. My 5 am workout and 3 jobs I will work today which will get me home tomorrow.,Now seem like a walk in the park. They are a walk in the park I do hope you meet MR Richardson. I will get that book for sure. In fact Jocko should do the audiobook version of it.Thanks
This is incredible. I'm incredibly lucky, and after hearing this, any problem I have is actually a fucking blessing. Thanks guys for putting these together and thanks for choosing to put these out here for us all.
I love how much humility Echo shows, he is not afraid to ask a question or say he doesn't understand something, unlike talk show hosts or something who just nod their heads acting as though they know what is going on.
Really awesome reading and book. I love hearing Jocko's input and for sharing this. Really helps to put things in perspective and keep my head up. My life is fucking good. No matter what happens.
I know this is an old episode. I also assume Jocko barely has time to breathe let alone read comments on three year old videos. But Jocko very literally gave me what I'm currently using to keep going. "It means you're still breathing. And if you're still breathing. Well now you still got some fight left in you. So get up dust off reload recalibrate re-engage and go out on the attack" I love you Jocko. Thank you.
I had the honor of serving under Col. Richardson at Ft. Bragg from 82-85. He would lead the 4 mile runs through the sand and piney woods at 55 yrs old, you didn't dare fall out! RIP Colonel Richardson you always lead from the front.
I did a report on chaplain Kapaun in my theology class in high school. He is the definition of selflessness and compassion. He got a referral put in to be ordained a saint by the Catholic Church. I believe we are still waiting on it. Could take a 100+ years
I love what you guys are doing. I have a lot of catching up to do on the podcasts. I've started making progress on the books. Just getting after it and spreading the word
Any day i dont feel like training bjj bc im tired im going to think of this podcast and realize how ridiculously lucky i am. Jockos podcasts always put things in perspective
Took me 3 weeks to get through this because i didn't want to miss a second of what was said. Im two podcasts behind. This book puts things in a light of perspective only few things can. God bless our veterans, god bless our beautiful country and its people. The mantra by General Mukoyama here speaks loud. I have work to do, no giving up till until the end.
bro why does jocko podcast only play at night when im in bed after midnight lmfao. it never autoplays throughout the day but on the most random videos it autoplays as im about to go to bed
Jocko, Echo. Good Afternoon. I can not listen to this episode on either iTunes Podcast app or Stitcher, I mostly listen at work, or while driving. Do either of you know why it would not be working? Also, Jocko, I was curious to know if you print your books in different languages? After I finish my current technical education I plan to go to community college to get an AA in Spanish, and I want to be able to learn your lessons in Spanish as well, as that is a recommended practice. I look forward to hearing from you. Get after it.
Working in a residential treatment facility I needed this reality check. The civilian mentality is a victim stance infestation. I will not allow my fear to control me. Thank you Jocko for your incredible content and by the way I am ordering this book along with the Bataan Death March. Back to the book.
The really little thing that cued me into the idea that soldiering leads to a lower quality of cleanliness was once watching a soldier at a parade go out behind a tent and quickly rinse a spoon in some water on the ground behind the tend. Anyone would have not done that because they're used to maximum cleanliness. But I suppose one too many times caught without modern amenities and you'll end up preferring some water off the ground instead of nothing.
God I miss my Uncle John T Whitman He's buried in Arlington in 2003 while I was in Iraq He was in the Pusan perimeter 14 months in 1950 July and 20 months in Chu Lia Vietnam 1968-1969...

Good on ya mate.

Christ, why hasn't someone made a movie out of this brilliance of a book? Amazing story. Thank you sir!
Truthfully, unless a really special director was at the helm, it would just be another Hollywood over-glorification of violence. The human element is what's making this story what it is, not the violence. There is a reason Saving Private Ryan is one of a kind.
This is probably one of my favorite episodes. Unbelievable story that hits home for any true American.
We seriously need 'Jocko Narrated Audio Books'
I have this same thought protest every time he covers a book.
Need to start with tilts books
Good evening boys
Man, how can i ever complain about anything ever again? Amazing story.
Right
The section on false cheerleading is excellent. Great use of words.
@Jacko you should do the audio version of this book. You'd do it justice by the way you auditory skills.
Great podcast. Bill Richardson was an incredible man. RIP
It's sad that the Korean war is soo over shadowed by the Vietnam war because the Korean war was really hardcore.
@ I want that game!!!
@ they dont want kids literally stacking bodies. If they did make that game; itd be so watered down.
This was a really thought provoking podcast. Always learn something to apply every podcast to get after it. Thanks Jocko! Thank you Echo

Who was your uncle? Billy Waugh’s book is fantastic
Richardson passed away last year. RIP, reread this book, and I had to listen to someone's discussion about it. What an Inspiration.
This made me feel very grateful for everything I have in my life.
Amen to that.

I Love Him and Miss him. He was really a great man.
This is hands down my favorite episode! Badass war stories! Should do more like this.
Incredibly thought provoking. Thank you for the powerful messages in this podcast. Profound.
i love how jocko is always super prepared .

This channel is one of my top 3 favs. Great topics, great discussions, great host. Jocko truly has thumos, what the ancient Greeks defined as a man with a chest.
Don't let Echo's right bicep distract you from the fact that he has skinny knees
That's GOOD.
He'd fuck you up with those knees

Definitely keep these book review type podcast coming! They are very interesting and I learn a lot.
