for ppl who still consider buying the top player grip, here is my suggestion. order the l3r3 component along with the case. without the l3r3 part, your middle and ring fingers will feel strange when holding your psvita. install the l3r3 part upside down, you dun need to use the double sided tape at all. just tuck it in and it will be tight enough to hold itself. last, order a pack of 3M corner protectors/ corner guards (originally design for table). they are usually transparent in color and made with rubber. hang one side on top of the l3/r3 buttons respectively with the double sided tape. you will find your psvita super comfortable to hold with your ring fingers triggering the rubber to the side as a grip.
I've had this and it has never scratched my vita. The l3 r3 also works just fine without me needing to tape it in so I can remove it as needed. The hori would be great if it wasn't a second mortgage.
@@chasrathburn you could try putting it all together, then taking 2 strips of plastic about 2 cm wide and as thin as you can find, position them to overlap the main shell and the L3/R3 panel, then glue the plastic strips to the main case (not the part that will hold the L3\R3). When dry they will hold the L3\R3 panel in place, and when you dont want them, pop out the vita and push the L3\R3 panel up through the front and put the vita back in, again taking it out and dropping the L3\R3 panel back in to rest on the plastic strips when you want them. Have just ordered one of these cases, and think thats what I will try, if you have a go maybe put a sheet of paper between the vita and the case when you are gluing the plastic strips onto the back of the main outer case, to catch any glue that accidently gets through, dont want it getting onto the vita
For anybody reading the grip has arrived and the above won't work as the L3/R3 triggers extend out wider than the square hole the panel sits in, so what I described above would effectively lock the panel in place, maybe gluing plastic strips to the removable part instead and then using double sided tape between the other half of those strips and the main body of the grip would work
For the ali express grip. Slide the top of the vita into the grips at the top of the handle first then click the bottom of the handle onto where the lanyaed holes are last.... this will cause least amount of damage

I don't bother with the L3 R3 triggers, but they work if you want them. Top Player also do a good case that accommodates the Vita with the grip attached which, for me anyway, means you won't need to remove the grip very often. I'll also add that the case fits both the 1000 and 2000 models of Vita with their respective grips. Finally - in December 2023 - I got my complete package of case, grip and L3 R3 triggers shipped from China for £35. The Hori grip costs more than a Vita. I'm not looking for a Hori anymore - I'm happy with the Top Player setup.
I now find the hori for like €150 (I did not have a slim when it was under 100). I did grab what I thought was a chinese knockoff but turns out to be the top player grip, which I can try in 2 days. Isn't the top player a knockoff of the Joetsu grip perhaps?

This case isn't good for the 2000. The 1000 version however has a clamshell design with a top piece you set your Vita in, then close the top onto it. It fits really well, and it works incredibly well with it. Haven't gotten the L3 R3 grips yet, but I think I will soon since you said it's way more comfortable with them.
I got this grip a couple days ago and it's pretty good. There's a way to place your vita in without having to clip the front of the vita, which is what causes your vita to take damage. Slide in the vita so that you can get the front part behind the clips. From there you can try to just clip in the bottom part. The clips at the bottom of the case are shorter than the ones up top and the part of the vita where they clip has no section between the front and back cases so you won't scuff up the vita like the way you did to the top. If you want to safely take the case off you should turn your vita upside down, roll your fingers to unclip the bottom side of the vita, and then try to slide the vita out from there. After doing this multiple times I have no signs of scratches or scuffs around my vita. It is harder to pull off but it is a good way to keep your vita from harm. I spent $30 from playasia and I can say that price for an alternative l2 r2 case is pretty good considering how the hori grip keeps skyrocketing to the cost of an actual vita itself.
The R2 L2 piece would have made more sense to put it in first and then the vita so the pressure of the vita being in the case would hold it in place. That would have been better than the way they made it. Funny enough I was actually thinking about getting this case but now changed my mind. Thanks!
The key advantage though is that the Top Player version gives you access to the rear top pad, rather than completely covering it like the Hori version does.
I prefer using a system skin. Also without the L3R3 add-on, because it allows you the freedom to play games that use back touch. Also the chances you keymap to the rear touch for L3R3 are low.

First of all a grip is not a CASE. And it's main function is to add additional buttons and to make holding the device more comfortable for prolonged gaming sessions. Also you scratched your vita because you didn't put it into the grip the right way (should slide the top of the vita first then press the bottom in). The hori grip is great and all but now it's rare and cost a fortune to get.
I got the top player grip for my Vita 1000 and the way it clips together is a whole fold over shell, but I wouldn't say it's better than the Hori frío for the 2000 model
I've put my vita in and out the top player case multiple times.... if you don't yank it out then its fine just take your time. I use it specifically for ps vita shooters plus as mentioned countless times below I'm not paying 300 dollars for a case when the vita was 165.... plus the vita is a retro handheld at this point take care of it

I have that grip too and am really pleased with it. Since it doesn’t block off any ports I tend to not take it out of the grip at all, so my vita isn’t scuffed. I don’t even mind the lack of L3 or R3, that’s just a minor annoyance. The thing that would keep me from buying the hori grip is exactly that top part you have to use to secure it. It sticks out, is prone to break (as most parts sticking out or moving are) so I guess it depends on what features you find important as to what grip to buy.
Good point - but whenever you need to take the vita out, it will get damaged from the Top Player case, automatic fail for me considering this is damn case and should protect, not damage the vita.
so, i don't have this case, but i did have the joetsu l2 r2 case from play-asia which is, from what i can tell, a rebrand (or vice-versa) because the form factor is identical. now, that case was alright, but i went through two of them, because the snap-in nature of the design is susceptible from breaking upon literally any kind of impact (i dropped one case one time from less than two feet and one of the little teeth snapped off). i don't recall it scratching my vita, but it just wasn't very durable and at 30 bucks with shipping and waiting for weeks for arrival, it's not practical. this hori case beats it entirely. the hinge lock has taken several drops and it just opens up instead of breaking. i mean, don't drop your stuff. but it's good to know that if it happens you won't be out a case.
Sweet, April 14th is my birthday. Sorry to hear the Top Player grip didn't meet your expectations. I don't think you're intended to take the Vita in and out of the case. The idea is to give the Vita a permanent set of L2 and R2 triggers while still giving you access to the rear touch pad for Vita games that use it. Mind you, there is also a version for the Vita1000. I don't have that model, but judging by the photos it seems to have a clam shell design that encloses over the front of the handheld.

@@gavra-1337 Usually an emulator needs a system needs to be 10x more powerful then the hardware it is emulation. Thats is a rather lose rule though. There are high level emulation methods and even FPGA solutions these days. The PS3 emulator is surprisingly good. I don't know if we'll see a Vita emulator but it would be cool. I'm all for more options to play console exclusive games.
The reason I bought it for my 1000 model on Amazon is because the is no other 1000 grips with triggers and my feels more premium probably because Amazons is different
I had one of these before I got the Hori grip. I got one of these for myself as well as a buddy because those grips are actually really cheap. They feel nice, but those little tabs to hold your vita in place? They break after taking it in and out a few times. They DO scuff your Vita very easily and it taking it in and out makes me feel like I'm going to break the grip because of how you have to squeeze and twist to get the Vita out to give those crappy little plastic tabs more life. What you did here is exactly what happens with these things man, you honestly did nothing wrong, they're just very cheaply made and not the most comfortable to use in general.
Luckily the Case for the 1000 series comes with a top cover so it doesn't scuff the Top Corners of the PS Vita. That's to bad that they didn't design a Full Cover for the 2000 series...
Bah, you interviewed the wrong version. That one does indeed suck. The one that JEC made, uses similar base model but uses the Hori method of attachment locking via a top hinge, which is a far better method than using micro tabs that inevitably break off or scratch the exterior of your vita. I have this model. and i love it quite a bit when remote playing particular games that make use of front touch screen far more than the back. However, I have had the Hori as well since back when it was still reasonably priced, and not this obnoxious $145 price point you see now, and I admit it's also a very solid product, and I use it for certain games as well. They both have thier pros and cons. However, with the Hori costing about as much as a french wHore, these days. I'd say it takes a huge hit as the practical or economic choice of the two. ; ) Though the 2-piece set one you reviewed, I agree, is trash. Chris I have this JEC model as well however im having trouble finding a pouch that will hold the vita with this grip and it’s front touch plastic that sticks out more than other grips, I also dislike that it covers those top corners. Have you found a pouch that holds both vita with grip on?
The Top player grip for the PSVita 1000 is definitely made better as it is a full hard case as well. I'm not a huge fan of the L3/R3 setup but it's better than nothing and Hori doesn't appear to have made a grip for the 1000 though it would probably be around $350-$400 now just as the 2000 grip is currently selling for. 🤷
Differently priced depending on where you live, vita's oled/lcd are quite expensive in my country, and unlike fine wine technology does not get better with age. and that grip thing is in the 64-100 dollar range.
I have one of those for my Vita 2000. It works great and holds my Vita 2000 very securely. The Hori L2R2L3R3 grip I got had a loose snap that when I accidentally shook the grip the Vita fell off.
The Hori grip is now $199 on ebay and amazon for just a piece of plastic🤣🤣. People like hoarding products and then resell them for 300% more just like they did with PPE( personal protective equipment). Ps5 and series x were hoarded too. These products were limited 1 per person, but people evade this by using different info. There is a bill only for PPE; I hope this can apply for other products as well. No one needs to agree with me

i got the top player grip for my fat vita. this version of the grip actually hast a leasch top snap it in place kinda like the hori. so i can recommend it for the fat version of the vita.
i use one that bought in AliExpress for ps vita fat, the Hori versión is hard to find for me and is much expensive, i have more than a year with it and works very well, it have r2 l2 r3 l3, work very well with ps1 games, i paid arround of $30 US dollars
I have this grip and it never scratched my Vita and I used it for a while I will say if you can afford the hori grip get that because it probably work better but the only thing with that is they're going for around 100 to $200 you can get this Max 40 bucks with the back buttons
they make a 1000 version and it's the only way to get L2 R2 and L3 R3 for the 1000 oled vita... so the Hori trigger grip is the best for the 2000 version, no doubt... but if you like the oled screen better the grip, made by the same company, is the best way to go.

In the long run, the rubber peices start bending and stop working as well, would not recommend

@@gavra-1337 Usually an emulator needs a system needs to be 10x more powerful then the hardware it is emulation. Thats is a rather lose rule though. There are high level emulation methods and even FPGA solutions these days. The PS3 emulator is surprisingly good. I don't know if we'll see a Vita emulator but it would be cool. I'm all for more options to play console exclusive games.

I own this grip for my, Vita 1000 and I have to admit it's fine no scratches, on my vita but Ik there are some diffrences with the 1000 version.

I had one of these before I got the Hori grip. I got one of these for myself as well as a buddy because those grips are actually really cheap. They feel nice, but those little tabs to hold your vita in place? They break after taking it in and out a few times. They DO scuff your Vita very easily and it taking it in and out makes me feel like I'm going to break the grip because of how you have to squeeze and twist to get the Vita out to give those crappy little plastic tabs more life. What you did here is exactly what happens with these things man, you honestly did nothing wrong, they're just very cheaply made and not the most comfortable to use in general.
Luckily the Case for the 1000 series comes with a top cover so it doesn't scuff the Top Corners of the PS Vita. That's to bad that they didn't design a Full Cover for the 2000 series...
Bah, you interviewed the wrong version. That one does indeed suck. The one that JEC made, uses similar base model but uses the Hori method of attachment locking via a top hinge, which is a far better method than using micro tabs that inevitably break off or scratch the exterior of your vita.
I have this model. and i love it quite a bit when remote playing particular games that make use of front touch screen far more than the back. However, I have had the Hori as well since back when it was still reasonably priced, and not this obnoxious $145 price point you see now, and I admit it's also a very solid product, and I use it for certain games as well. They both have thier pros and cons. However, with the Hori costing about as much as a french wHore, these days. I'd say it takes a huge hit as the practical or economic choice of the two. ; ) Though the 2-piece set one you reviewed, I agree, is trash.

Chris I have this JEC model as well however im having trouble finding a pouch that will hold the vita with this grip and it’s front touch plastic that sticks out more than other grips, I also dislike that it covers those top corners. Have you found a pouch that holds both vita with grip on?

The Top player grip for the PSVita 1000 is definitely made better as it is a full hard case as well. I'm not a huge fan of the L3/R3 setup but it's better than nothing and Hori doesn't appear to have made a grip for the 1000 though it would probably be around $350-$400 now just as the 2000 grip is currently selling for. 🤷
Differently priced depending on where you live, vita's oled/lcd are quite expensive in my country, and unlike fine wine technology does not get better with age. and that grip thing is in the 64-100 dollar range.

I have one of those for my Vita 2000. It works great and holds my Vita 2000 very securely. The Hori L2R2L3R3 grip I got had a loose snap that when I accidentally shook the grip the Vita fell off.
Someone said on here it's designed more for the 1000 version. Did the one that's being revieiwed scratch up your Vita though?

The Hori grip is now $199 on ebay and amazon for just a piece of plastic🤣🤣. People like hoarding products and then resell them for 300% more just like they did with PPE( personal protective equipment). Ps5 and series x were hoarded too. These products were limited 1 per person, but people evade this by using different info. There is a bill only for PPE; I hope this can apply for other products as well. No one needs to agree with me

i got the top player grip for my fat vita. this version of the grip actually hast a leasch top snap it in place kinda like the hori. so i can recommend it for the fat version of the vita.

i use one that bought in AliExpress for ps vita fat, the Hori versión is hard to find for me and is much expensive, i have more than a year with it and works very well, it have r2 l2 r3 l3, work very well with ps1 games, i paid arround of $30 US dollars
I have this grip and it never scratched my Vita and I used it for a while I will say if you can afford the hori grip get that because it probably work better but the only thing with that is they're going for around 100 to $200 you can get this Max 40 bucks with the back buttons

they make a 1000 version and it's the only way to get L2 R2 and L3 R3 for the 1000 oled vita... so the Hori trigger grip is the best for the 2000 version, no doubt... but if you like the oled screen better the grip, made by the same company, is the best way to go.
Why couldn't Sony just put the L2/R2 L3/R3 buttons into the console naturally without having to make us by additional accessories for it?
