The guys who play Grog (the dumb Goliath)!and Scanlan (the dirty bard) said in an interview that originally, they went to all the streaming channels and tried to sell them in the idea for the cartoon but nobody understood that it could be a thing. They wanted to change it, make it a kid-friendly show, or what ever. So they did the Kickstarter. After they raised over $11 Million from 88,887 fans in just 45 days, and could finance an entire first season by themselves…all the same streaming companies that said “no” the first time were saying “yes.” They went with Amazon Prime, because they agreed to give the cast creative control, so they could make the show exactly as raunchy, violent, funny, and dramatic as they originally envisioned it. And boy oh boy does the show deliver on all points. Y’all are right. This is a whole new way of making a fresh show, letting the creative people create, and not interfering, because ultimately, the people at Critical Role didn’t need the corporate money, they know they can always just raise their own, and their fans have their back as long as they keep it real.

You guys are going to love Scanland. In their home game Sam Riegal would actually sing to inspire the players. In D&D a bard will often be a support class and buff or heal their team while also using spells to take down the defenses of the bad guys. Most players just say their bard sings... but Sam being an actor and having done play a lot as a child was not afraid to sing. He would often take popular songs but rewrite the lyrics to fit their team or the D&D world.
The first episode is the most 'vile', as they REALLY wanted to stress that this is not a show for kids. There's a LOT of lore and hidden gems, but you don't need any of it to get the story. ^u^
Prepare yourselves for the critter hug. The fanbase is full of super passionate people so it can be a little overwhelming, but it's all love. This show gets better every episode, I look forward to seeing your reactions to the rest of the season!
Yes, the main cast in this is fantastic, talented actors one and all, but even more than that these characters are ones THEY each created for themselves. These are their personal PC characters from their RPG... which started as a home game, just a bunch of friends hanging out having fun in the living room. Until Felicia Day (Geek Goddess extraordinaire and big wig with the channel Geek and Sundry... (I LOVE their short web series 'Caper' a spoof about superhero's)) heard about it through the grapevine and asked them to give streaming the Campaign a try. And the rest is history... destined to be legend.
As a long time fan of Critical Role & D&D your reactions were really wonderful to watch! A lot of reaction channels don't tend to get as immediately invested as you did, and your insights on the RPG parallels were also super great! Keep on doing your thing!
For those who don't know... the guard that tells them the bear has to wait outside, and that the assassin lost his hand is voice by Bobby Hall aka Logic the rap artist.
I just started watching this today and I'm already loving it. We need more adult animated shows like this and Invincible that aren't afraid be over the top with the gore while being very emotional at times.
This is crazy. It is literally someone's tabletop D&D turned into a TV show. Dude, owls can't turn their head a crazy amount, but their personalities are usually adorable.
Note for non critters... you will likely hear a lot of comments about doors. While playing at their home table they kept getting unlucky while rolling to open or unlock or breakdown doors. It became an inside joke and just kept happening so its now the lore that Vox Machina suck at opening doors.

Oh, seeing the whole crew at NYCC last year, and the fact that they're coming back again this year, I got a extra day ticket just to try and meet as many of them as I can!
You guys are in for a wild ride! The first two episodes are great because they help introduce the group and their dynamic and every episode after continues to get better and more epic.

I said it before but critical role got me into d&d in the first place and the first season is still my favorite I binge watched it like crazy all day every day and Vax is my favorite character and the reason rouge is my favorite class
@@JnEricsonx The main cast are all voice actors, they pulled most of characters from their contacts/friends in the business. They wanted the VA that did Azula for Dalila and that's who they got because they already knew her. They did many voices of the extras themselves, and they had an idea of who would be perfect for every bigger part because they worked with so many VAs.
Having so much fun watching you get invested. Great show. If you're interested give Critical Role a go. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good the actual role play is plus you get to learn about D&D... it could get you to play and stream a game of your own! Would def see that!!!
Playing dungeons and dragons is so fun but the dragons are nuts! There are different kinds! Not just fire and lightning! There's acid , poison and ice and then there's chromatic and metallic and that's just the basic stuff! And that's not even getting into the other monsters and beasts that are dangerous in the game!

I found the first two episodes... fun but a bit... trying. It gets better and better every episode.
They had even more to pack into 2 episodes than they packed into the other 10. But yeah, 3 and on are much better.
