    I just realized why I’m so curious about the storm drain videos. First off what you call “ gullies” we call “gutters” and they end at the point they reach the ground. I’ve always called it the down spout where it pours on to a cement slab and drains out into the yard. I’ve never heard let alone seen anybody running an underground pipe out to the street !!!! It looks like you guys install them when the house is built. I’m curious why they’re needed .I’m in the United States and I don’t think our weather is so different than y’all. Our water table is probably similar as well. So my question is WHY!

    • @Mercmad
      @Mercmad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brisbane ,where this is filmed, is semi tropical. Florida is somewhat similar in terms of climate . It doesn't rain much but when it does it comes like a monsoon .

    • @TS-yf2zf
      @TS-yf2zf 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excessive water against any structure will give you foundation issues also increases the likelihood of Termites.
      Termites love to come through cracks in concrete, penetrations & or over the foundation / slab edge. BIG issue here in Queensland

      @@Mercmad I also in Florida are water table is practically in our front yard. I've never seen ground as hard as yours. Ours is mostly sand yours is mostly clay I believe. Thanks for your replying I have found it interesting.

    Gavin, is it coincidence that the license plate on your work truck has the letters GAV on it? 👍 or did you personalize it that way? Just noticed it haha.
    Great clean out. Those balls look like they're from a kids ball pit and they're super light and fly/roll EVERYWHERE they're NOT supposed to lol 🤣 clearly they liked the drain. Glad you got them out 👍

    Could you explain why in Australia you have stormwater drains just running out onto the street. Here in the UK rainwater flows into underground pipes straight into stormwater drains . Seperate from the sewage drains .

    • @Mercmad
      @Mercmad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a matter of little rain except in El Nina Conditions like this year and vast distances here. Even in towns ,running underground storm water would cost billions. The brown thing next to the down pipe is a rain water collection tank so rain water can be collected for watering the garden.

    Why do the storm drains run into the street gutters and not into the sewer drains ?

    • @mattv1415
      @mattv1415 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rain water doesn’t need to be treated like the sewer. Heavy rains would overwhelm the sewer treatment facilities.
