I start my nipper job on Friday 8th December never been in the mines before. Iv been watching afew of your videos an they have definitely encouraged me to give minning a crack, ill keel you posted. Ill be heading to the mungari site not far out of Kalgoorlie
This channel is very informative Please keep posting, I'm interested in considering to relocate to Perth to work in nickle mines as it's crucial for the world to transition to renewables
lol it’s hugely physical if you’re setting up a bunch of headings or looking after multiple jumbos! Full time nipper for the last 6 months and the site is massive.. so it’s hectic. Just got our 5th jumbo 😮💨
That’s crazy how that site or the sites you’ve been at work like that. For us the nipper is the jumbo ops offsider/b*tch and jumbos only. Maybe because of the massive mine I’m at and we don’t have the time to do all the other jobs you’ve mentioned. Throw bolts, then set up headings while boring.. get bits for the rig if needed. Help our ops fix the rig on breakdowns if it’s something we don’t need a fitter for..And we have to be able to handle mesh on our own. Ours is 45kg a sheet, I’m a 53-ish-kg chick.. I get it done but don’t forget ya water jugs & hydralytes lol. Also depending on which site, even areas in a big site, can have a wet bulb temp that make u piss sweat just standing there 😬 It would all vary slightly based on the company/site, but it’s still a good overview!
@@Lolimiggi yes it depends on the site to what the Nipper does, we go into a lot of detail in the training about it all thanks for the comments, glad to see you made it past the 6 month mark most don't
Hey mate. You say the nipper is responsible for getting 'everybody' here and 'everybody' there. How many people is the nipper responsible for? Or is there more than 1 nipper moving 'everybody' to crib and back, etc?
It depends on how big the crew is to how many nippers there are, however service crew, paste crew and charge up have LV's that will pick people up and drop them off but its up to the Nipper to let everyone know who has to be picked up and where Hope that makes sense, normally the Nipper LV is a ute with a man cage on the back so 6 seats but some mines use bigger vehicles, it just depends on the mine
