Maybe somebody already pointed this out, but you can just close the other flaps (the ones you're not cutting) and use the gap between them to give you a line for cutting the other flaps. No measuring, no marking. Thanks for the video!
3:30 - Put you on pause and bought a box cutter/resizer tool - never bought a cutter that had that extra function before. Thanks for the tips!

Love. So you took half the 14 side added 7 to one dimension and reduced 7 by the other to make it 21x7. Same height obviously. Makes sense and I need this to figure out end size to make sure it’ll work. Thanks!!

No you can’t do this to flat rate boxes
Maybe a large mailing box but not large flat rate box
So what is the best way to make sure the item will fit in the box after I do this? Should I measure the whole box vs the item before cutting?
Yes. If the sum of LxWxH (item) is less than or equal to the sum of LxWxH (box), then it’ll fit the box. I don’t recommend it equal though for anything that’s fragile because there will be no room to pad on the sides. My preferred method is to use an equal sided box (e.g. 12x12x8) and measure the markings on the box equal to the width of the item. In this video, he measured center with the markings. Both methods will work perfectly fine. Good luck and enjoy the savings!

lay the box flat and measure its length flat and thats the length it should be close to when re sized long ways

What is that resizing tool you keep mentioning?
It’s a box resizer I got mine from Lonnie at shed flips TH-cam channel
Now this box is over the 36" for USPS. How do you ship it? Every time I've used FedEx, they go back and bill me more than what my ebay label charged. Ebay won't honor the price of the label and credit either. I don't use fedex anymore at all. Great hack for sure!
Sandra P I use fed ex or ups and make sure the weight and dimensions are correct they shouldn’t charge you anymore as long as there right maybe check your scale make sure it’s on point sometimes weighing big items on these scales can trigger it to give you wrong weight I’ve never been charged extra and also if your measurement length is 28.35 inches make sure you put 29 round up
Also you can use this trick on small boxes doesn’t just have to be big boxes
@@PickNShipAre you sure? Its sneaky on the ebay invoice. I verified all when I dropped it off. First time I was told they went by dimensional weight and that made it higher. The next time, I used the higher dim weight and they still charged more on my invoice. I had proof of that also and still no credit. Just my luck I guess. Thanks for the help. I will use this on smaller boxes.

Just happened last week with UPS. Posted some books and PayPal charged me. Was well under the maximum measurements.After sending pictures for proof got refunded. They're well sneaky!
What if my box is wide enough but I need to make it taller?
Just score the box on the flap to fold the flaps shorter and use cardboard to cover the holes !
Also the height of the box will stay the same no matter what so if you need taller box you would need to buy taller box the length and width is the only size change the box has
