I am struggling to understand how ANYONE could believe that this woman is innocent.....by any stretch of the means. I am completely unbiased on this case. I could care less whether she gets off or she doesn't. But I have watched every single day without skipping a beat. Not once did I even question or lean towards believing the self-defense narrative.

It's interesting that the defense tried to bring in all this theory, wheels of fortune, stories of other people etc, but not one eyewitness of the alleged violence, not one person she told contemporaneously about the alleged abuse. They'd bring a clairvoyant to testify if the judge allowed it!

7:12:42 If doug was shot in the chest and it gave him instant paralysis that he was unable to move and fell backwards, then why is ashley saying that "he kept comming at me" ? If he is instantly paralysed and unable to move how come doug was shot in the back of the thigh right leg into the knee on the second shot if doug was on his back after the first shot which paralised him when he was on the floor on his back ?

I know our justice system includes rules of law that vary court-to-court, but imagine a system that allowed all things true? I do not understand why she planned for a baby with him if he was abusive to her. Have him go through an unpleasant procedure of a reversed vasectomy . To bring a little child into that is very selfish of her. Then to go & plan to murder him because he is so controlling & abusive. Take the father away from not only the child but also from a stepdaughter who lost her other parent 6 months ago. Did she think about her little girl at all? Obviously not. What this is going to do mentally to her daughter if she is convicted . She is so self absorbed & narcissistic to me. She could have divorced this guy & met some one else & had a child . She is still young enough to have had a child with someone else. Why commit murder & possibly have your little girl be without both parents? I just don’t get it. I think she also wanted that ballet company. It didn’t work out like she had planned. It went belly up because Doug ended up loosing the money. He was in some financial troubles I think. He was’t extremely wealthy to begin with. Anyway she seems very narcissistic to me. I would love to know about how her first marriage went. What she was like with ex husband. Why haven’t we heard anything about him? Where are all these girlfriends she had? Why aren’t they helping her defense. That is suspect for sure.

The ballistic photos shows all bullets ending up in the wall at a knee height or waist line which explains that the back of right leg was shot first when doug was standing with his back turned and then he bends over to the right to grab his leg and then is shot when his body is bending over at a lower height

The judge should never have allowed the dv expert to testify. There was no proof the he did any of those things to her. If anything those roles were reversed. She lived and went where she wanted when she wanted. When people come to him for dv awareness etc, he never questions whether they are guilty of this abuse or not. He seemed to be an unstable man in his very late 50's -- marrying a woman almost 30 years younger than him just a few weeks after meeting her!!! Another red flag. Another red flag is that his daughter doesn't seem at all surprised about her father's weird behavior. People out there, get out of relationships when they show weird signs in the beginning. They obviously waited too long. Asheley was probably too young to realize how screwed up the whole thing was and ended up getting caught into a never ending nightmare. The man was almost 60 when they met and she was only 24. She lacked the life experience needed to get away from a manipulative, unstable man-child.

Leaving the abuser is the most dangerous time to tell the abuser that you are leaving him. So what does ashley do ? She calls him to the house, tells her mother to leave the house, makes sure that she is alone with doug in the house and then tell him that she doesnt want to move in with him because she is leaving him. And all the years before, she was so afraid of doug when he shot his gun to the ceiling that she married him a week later

    • @JK-jj9ko

You would also be aware ashley testified that the reason why doug came to the home that day was because "my mother and i pre staged the heavy furniture in the garage , for doug to put them into the truck" and she called him over to help with that , She was all day with her mother in that house packing up. And during this time, ashley and her mother positioned guns around the home , hidden, and doug was not aware of any guns in the house. She also told her mother to go to the park with emerson. So ashley knew on this day she purposly made herself to be alone with doug. To kill him.
From experience doug would know that ashley would keep a gun in her bra as she wore it at the event that they went to few months earlier. So why would doug attack ashley knowing how she wears her gun in her BRA ? That is why it would be impossible for doug to think even to attack her or lunge at her. That is why she placed guns around the house so that she would shoot him in the back of the leg first , when he is unaware when he was lifting items for her.
100% she waited for doug to turn his back in the door way of the bedroom and she shot his right back leg, he turned to the right to see who shot him and then she shot him in the right chest . And then pretended to shoot a few more else where.

What’s the point of getting a restraining order and trying to go to the police to document the stalking and abuse? They’re ordered to leave you alone and they don’t. The stalking and psychological abuse is sometimes worse than physical. Nobody takes it seriously until the abuser kills you. When you use self defense and end up charged with murder, all of the times you’ve tried to get help are hearsay. THIS is why women stay and try to get along.

If she was so scared of him, all the name calling & yelling at her as she claims he did with her, why invite him over to help you move with just herself & him to be alone???? She sends the mother & little girl away so she is there alone with him? Because she had it planned I believe to take him out. And when Dr Liu stated that she spoke to ashley, in person , Dr Liu could have been manipulated by ashleys fake crying, sadness, and explanation of how bad doug was or wasnt, she could have told her , positions of where doug was positioned in the hosue which isnt true etc.

IMO she had the gun ready to take him out or told him knowing he wld retaliate, on hearing b/f & cc! She knew he’d be upset! She was a regular at the shooting range knew what she was doing! The bullets all low down cld be that he was probs shot in the leg first to stop him, he fell to the side & next bullet shot while he was down on his side! She certainly had motives for having him dead! Loosing her court cases over visitation, no proof of DV so she was loosing that, a new lover & a move to a new house in a new state!

@dannyb3976 He seemed unprepared and lost at times and could not argue his point with the judge and was constantly shot down by the State. Can't believe this guy is a veteran of 300 odd trials. Hope he came cheap. She should ask for her money back and he should be charged with impersonating a lawyer.

Shouldn't the DNA evidence be allowed (or even required to be introduced by the state) as exculpatory evidence under Brady?

6:10:00 yes doug was in motion only when he got shot in the doorway with his back towards ashley . From turning around. If doug was lunging at ashley, it would mean doug would have been in a lower possition and the angle of the shot would have been higher on the right chest or shoulder. And the angle of the bullet if he was standing face to face with ashley wouldnt have gone right to left, the bullet would have gone through the right chest and down his lower right back in a straight line.
Ashley was standing to his right when she made the chest shot or doug turned to the right after he got shot in the right leg to see who shot him , and the leg shot she would have been standing to his left. So the left shot in the knee is when his back is turned in the door way and she shoots him when she is standing on his left, she shoots the right leg from the back. Then he turns to the right and then she shoots him in the chest .

The prosecutors argument about the domestic violence wheel is absolutely ridiculous. The prosecutor is trying to argue that domestic violence isn’t domestic violence basically. It’s patronising and victim blaming. There was evidence that this guy had emotional and behavioural problems in two different relationships.

Older men that seek out younger woman are known to be controlling, abusive and jealous. When Ashely moved, Doug couldn't control her, we was terrified she would find a guy her age and because he got away with the abuse once he kept doing it. The defense put on a great case except they didn't put up any character witnesses which was a missed opportunity.

NOT GUILTY ........Anyone having any knowledgebase of domestic abuse should clearly see by the reaction of Ms. Benefield. She is unable to look at physical evidence, her reaction to the Detective who performed the arrest warrent along with the non chalant attitude of that detective, her physical appearance and her lack of movement other than to comfort herself with her sweater. She is frightened to death. The victims daughter seems pretty non reactive to anything where as the victims brother I'd getting angry and unable to see anything other than what he chooses to see. It truely appears that the SYSTEM FAILED HER. NONE OF THE MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS HELPED HER TO GET TO A PLACE WHERE SHE HAD HELP GETTING OUT OF THE ABUSIVE SITUATION. MS. BENEFIELD APPEARS TO NOT HAVE TGE CONFIDANCE IN HER OWN MOTHER TO GET HELP FROM.THE DA IS USING THE CHILD AS A WEAPON AGAINST MS. BENEFIELD AS ITS
PRETTY HARD TO NAVIGATE THE ABUSE AS WELL AS DEALING WITH THE FATHERS RIGHTS.
UNBELIEVABLE THAT THE DA NOR JUDGE WILL ALLOW TGE DNA INTO EVIDENCE. SO SAD
