    The problem is that whole life policy's premium is ridiculously high and you have to pay/borrow against the cash value of the policy until you die. The rate of return from the investment component of life insurance does not justify the high premium cost. Directly investing in ETFs/stocks/other financial instruments will lead to similar, and often higher return without the premium which in long term reduces your return because of less money is compounded into reinvestment.
    In addition, when you borrow from the cash value of the whole life policy, the interest will be applied to the cash value which reduces the total cash value when you surrender/cash out or die.

      I agree that Whole Life is not the best program but there are other Index-based (uncapped) strategies that give ETF's/Stocks/Other financial instruments a run for their money. Plus you didn't mention taxes. Taxes with those other "instruments" you say... will lose their total cash value when they are removed. Look at stocks and other "instruments" on what they're doing right now. No Bueno.

      When you borrow against home equity, are you borrowing your own money? Or are you borrowing the bank's money, and they're using your home value as collateral? If you sell the house before the Heloc is paid they subtract it. This is the same concept. There is no investment component. This has nothing to do with rate of return, nothing.. it has to do with using funds throughout your life more than 1x and having it grow (not drained back to 0) while using it tax-free. Having a pool of liquid funds for large expenses on tap ready to take advantage of opportunities is 100x better than a traditional savings accountIt'which is why many R.E. investors do as well as business owners use it.

      The thought processes of the religious mind are so sad. And there's always someone ready to back up a nut in full flow... Yes, Vanessa was there, and she LOVES that you yielded to god. At least Laura tactfully avoided your god reference. She had to make up a reason for replying by saying she's 'glad you are enjoying the strategy', even though you didn't say you were... I'd love to hear how you dissect my comments. Will it be that the devil is sat on my shoulder, or perhaps that my musings are part of god's plan to save me...? Relax, I have no doubt you'll arrive at the correct truth, just as you worked out why you came across the same subject twice in one day. By definition, discerning patterns in chaos comes naturally to the apophenic.

    In the very beginning of your video was confusing to me but as I continue listening to you it makes a lot of sense. Back in 1988 my husband was a licensed agent selling term life insurance for a company named A.L.Williams than later they changed to Prime America. I never got licensed because it didn't interest me. But let me mention something so funny. Now I've been trying to buy term life insurance and every person that call me to give me a quote they actually tell me is term life and as I asked them questions I say oh you're selling whole life and when I tell them the difference between the two they always slam the phone on me and call me a b_ _ _ _. I always get a kick out of that so I can't get term life. That's funny to me. But your video is so informative. Thank you so much. I'll be another of your followers.

    The problem is that it takes a long time to build up substantial cash value(e.g. +10,000) in an insurance policy. Also, the insurance company substract administration fees which further reduce the cash value accumulation over time.

    Hi Laura do you know if something like this is available in the UK? Also is it worth investigating if you’re deep in credit card debt or is it better to focus on paying that debt first?

    • @nightlifeking
      @nightlifeking 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Candy Cat hi I’m not Laura, but I’ve been advised for years to pay your debt before investing. If you think about it, it makes sense. If you’re investing in a security that only brings you 1-2% or even 5% annual returns, but you have credit cards charging you 10-20% interest, you’re actually losing money. So pay yourself first (which means put money away in savings) and pay off your debt. Once you’re debt free or have your debt in a low interest loan, you should then invest. But that’s just my 2 cents.

    • @laurapitko6404
      @laurapitko6404  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Candy, yes should be available in the UK it is basically a permanent life insurance policy but the key components that make it work is that it is high cash value which means the policy is overfunded, it is dividend paying and it covers you for your whole life. The key it is have the policy set up properly and with the right company when choosing companies this criteria is super important: make sure they are a mutual company because that means the dividend are going to be paid to you, with a stock company the dividends are split with the stock holders, you want a company that is at least 100 years old! Want to make sure the company has all A ratings, not a property and casualty company, a multi billion dollar company, should be able to overfund the policy whenever you want without agent commissions. (I will be putting out another video going over how to structure the policy, so you know what to look out for). With this strategy it is important to understand that you want your cash flow situation to be certain as the first initial years are for funding the policy with overfunding if you miss a few premium payments that is ok, but it is better to be in a situation where your cash flow allowed you to fund this policy without a huge strain on your cash flow that is why I would focus on increasing cash flow by determining which one of your credit cards or other debts have the most strain on your cash flow and are most inefficient and focus on paying those off first, I made a video going over this here: th-cam.com/video/Yik3NeHFZEg/w-d-xo.html focus on paying one debt off at a time at the same time it is important to get in the habit of paying yourself first I would aim for 20% of every paycheck to go into a savings account then when your cash flow allows it, I would put that money into a high cash value dividend paying whole life insurance policy because I think this type of policy is superior to saving accounts, brokerage accounts, municipal bonds or CDs.

    • @heyerstandards
      @heyerstandards 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nightlifeking Better : use cash flow to create capital and death benefit guarantees with the whole life policy. Each month use loan provisions within the whole life policy (which charge about 5%) to pay off the snakes and dragons at the credit cards and finance companies.
      Please consider that waiting until "everything is paid off" is the most costly method, since more interest is paid out and what would have been earned in the policies is never created.

    Hello Laura. I have had so many opportunities to invest in myself. I know that what you are saying is absolutely the truth because I have borrowed money before for myself. Looking back, it's apparent I made some huge mistakes by trusting people very near and dear to me. I ended up with nothing. It wasn't until my daughter passed that I realized that I had never purchased an insurance policy. As you age the monthly payments go up even more. Sure wish I had done this earlier. My question is this. If you're making ng monthly payments would it be a good idea to double the payments in order to borrow against the policy? Because of being in my 70’s my days are numbered. I still like managing my money without giving it away. And advice will be appreciated for a senior who has waited too long to do the right thing. Thanks Laura.

      The younger and healthier you are, the cheaper the policies will be. We are in our early thirties and got a 30 year term and a universal life cash value insurance. The 30 year term for $500,000 could be between $380-$480. Pay it on annual basis, because it's cheaper VS paying it monthly or quarterly. We have elected the cash value to pay quarterly, as it's too expensive for us to pay on an annual basis. Our quarterly payment $291-$361. Term insurance is cheaper for women VS men. Cash value insurance is cheaper for men VS women. We went with BB&T, as they are an insurance broker, and can shop around on your behalf for best rates.

    Why is this better than a tax sheltered or tax deferred account? I'm not sure what's available in the USA, but in Canada we have RRSPs which are tax deferred until retirement, and TFSAs which have tax-free growth. The latter of which is extremely liquid, funded with after-tax dollars, and tax sheltered completely (though, admittedly, is limited by a max deposit of $69000 right now)

    Will this work in Australia ?

    • @auxripper
      @auxripper 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. A dividend paying whole life insurance policy is possible anywhere. Just make sure the policy is held by a mutual company, not a publicly traded company

    • @laurapitko6404
      @laurapitko6404  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Auxripper answered this question well in regards that you have to do your research on the insurance companies and make sure they are a mutual company because that means the dividends are going to be paid to you, with a stock company the dividends are split with the stock holders. You want a company that is at least 100 years old! Want to make sure the company has all A ratings, not a property and casualty company, a multi billion dollar company, should be able to overfund the policy whenever you want without agent commissions. But this is not available everywhere.

    • @auxripper
      @auxripper 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @laurapitko, I've had my policy for years! At the moment I owe it several $K, but it's better than owing a bank! I'm so glad to see you are promoting this financial tool. Remember, people literally have to transform the way they think and invest to use this tool properly

    • @laurapitko6404
      @laurapitko6404  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      mick ryan, permanent life insurance policies which are the basis for this strategy have been replaced by superannuation in Australia, so it would not work in your country as of right now unless life insurance companies offered whole life policies again.

      I know that when I went to an insuarance company the higher the policy amount you desire the higher your monthly payments, to feed your cash value will be.I think they said for a 150,000 police I would have to pay 500 a month.I did the calculation rough estimate, you will have to pay a ball park amount of $3,333 a month. You cant pay the minimum you have to over pay it..If you pay the bare minimal it will slowly eat itself away. The key is to over pay it.

      @@jenniferoviawe These are awesome . You can Buy 375,000 death benefit on a teen for about 375-400 a month for a 15 yr pay at state farm. ( Ohio national Pays higher dividends ) The state farm I have several on each of my 3 kids. At the 9 yr mark depending on their age has 35,000 to 39,000 cash value in them. Think of it as a air plane. when it takes off is heavy full of fuel the longer it goes the light and more efficient it becomes just like a whole life policy. Buy them young. at 45 years old for 1.2 million for 20 yrs is 50,000 a yr with Ohio national . but after 9 years still glad i have them. like planting a tree the sooner you plant the better off. You can't enjoy the shade for a while but when your older and sitting in the shade you will be glad you planted it Or bought the whole life policy.

    Let me let you in on a little secret. There is no money you just think there is. Don’t believe me? That’s ok you don’t have to but take a look at a one dollar bill and what does it say? That’s right it says this _note_ is legal tender. It’s a note and that’s all it is.
    Money requires a value to back it like gold or silver. These *notes* do not have value behind them therefore it is not money.
    Banks and the government _borrow_ these notes with a promise to pay back and then loan these notes of non existent money to you. Then they charge you interest.
    What are you thinking! Why are you giving your so called money away to the banks in the form of interest? There is no money in this country because it’s all borrowed from the federal reserve and is printed from thin air with a push of a button!

    • @markcrogan3807

      When you take a 401k loan those funds are not earning until they are paid back in and you are losing growth potential in a growing market. You are also paying interest to yourself but will lose the gains and you must make the monthly payments. You also cannot add extra principle only the entire outstanding balance owed, no partial payments allowed.

    Why does she have Tax Deferred listed as a pro for the whole life insurance? The alternative is literally called Tax Advantaged for a reason. Also whole-life insurance is an absolute scam if you care about leaving money behind for beneficiaries. Essentially you're paying for 2 products bundled together; life insurance and a liquid asset savings vehicle. When you die however, you only get to benefit from one of the products, your family can either claim the cash value of your policy, or they can claim the death benefit, but not both.

      Net death benefit = cash values + net amount at risk - any outstanding loans. The cash value is a component of the death benefit. Not on top of and not instead of. You do get the cash values. Why do you think the death benefit increases? It's because of the cash value.
