    Great tips!
    I would only add:
    Form Your Homeschooling Philosophy
    Your advice to research methods and your advice to know your "why" are combined to form the foundation of your homeschooling philosophy. I always train new homeschoolers to spend time doing this before homeschooling. It may change over time, but it's still important to form it before beginning. Otherwise, researching curriculum is just like picking a straw among 1 million straws. On the hard days, knowing what you desire your homeschooling to result in and how you've decided to accomplish that will be what you cling to. When 468 curriculums and ideas and newest, best things are constantly bombarding you, you'll be able to say "no. That doesn't really fit with what I'm doing here.", rather than constantly being knocked around by every wind of homeschooling opinion, idea, or newest and flashiest thing that "everyone" is doing. Without knowing your own homeschooling philosophy, you're like a ship with no sails.

    I was homeschooled for most of my childhood, and I've homeschooled my 6 children off and on for the last 19 years. I'm certainly not new to homeschooling, however, recently finding your channel and some others on TH-cam, has given me a breath of fresh air and has prompted me to think outside the rut that I kind of found myself in. The kids and I are getting some fresh ideas for our schooling that will make the entire experience even better than before. Thank you for all the wonderful, inspirational content you put out!

    Great video. I am new to homeschooling this year and the research and preparation I did before taking the plunge has been tremendously helpful in dealing with the ups and downs. I would also add that a new homeschooling Mom (or Dad !) needs to have compassion and grace not only for their children but for themselves as well.
    There will be days where you question your decision, where you wonder if you're doing enough, etc. Just remember why you started and give yourself a break. Homeschooling is a marathon, not a sprint. Give yourself time, don't panic if one day, or even one week, doesn't go as expected. Take one day at a time and just keep working on it.
    Also, be FLEXIBLE and realize that it's okay to abandon a curriculum that isn't working and that the same approach may not work for all of your kids. It's one of the great adventures of life and a wonderful opportunity to grow as a Mom (or Dad !).

    I’m not homeschooling (yet), but strongly considering it. The biggest fear in my mind has been somehow ruining my kids’ education, but logically I know that even in a regular school setting kids don’t learn everything. I’ve also had to wrap my mind around the fact that homeschool isn’t supposed to be you replicating a regular school structure in your home. And then I’ve had concerns about the opinions of everyone else around me, because I don’t know anyone that does this (outside of social media). So I’ve been looking at local groups so I can learn more and see what local resources/support I’d have available.
    I just keep feeling like this is something that would work out well for my family. I just have to get everyone on board.

    Good video. I have three daughters and we are in our 5th year of homeschool. The first year taking my two oldest out of public was a challenge and they often asked about going back to school. Now, they talk to others about how much they love homeschool. All the things you mentioned are things that I would also say to someone new to homeschool or considering homeschool. If will be different for every family, but my husband and I are so confident in the decision we made to homeschool, it has been a blessing for our family.

    I have been homeschooling for pre-k and getting ready for kindergarten next year. These are great tips! Right now we do school during my 2 year-old’s nap, but that will probably have to shift at some point. I am just stressed about choosing a math curriculum. I am adamant about strong academics, so I want to help them excel, and not hate it like so many students today.

  • @amyflett299
    @amyflett299 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love your last suggestion, to set small goals for your child but keep them to yourself. I don't yet have children to homeschool, but I just started working in an elementary school with English Language Learners. I have almost complete autonomy over what I do with the kids; as long as their language skills are improving, I can use whatever curriculum/strategies I want. Not having goals for my students would be so overwhelming because I wouldn't know what I'm supposed to be focusing on when I meet with them. To make sure we're making progress, I've set a small goal for each student I work with. I haven't told them these goals, but knowing what the most important thing is for each child helps me structure the activities we're doing around their needs. I'm sure clarifying what your most important focus is would be just as valuable to homeschooling parents!

    6th year homeschooling here. I have two high schoolers a third grader and one pre-k. Great advice here. The only thing I would add...#11 Know that it is okay to change some things (schedule, curriculum, etc.) if something (or even everything) is not working.
    Some people give up homeschooling because something isn’t working and so they assume homeschool just doesn’t work. The truth is you might just need to change your curriculum or whatever and that’s totally okay! And you can do that at anytime. One week in...six months in...when ever 😁

    • @mamabenzing5872
      @mamabenzing5872 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes!!! We've changed our "schedule" 3 times this school year (started August 6) till we found what worked best for the 7 kids that I homeschool and the 3 year old, 2 year old and 10 month old lol The schedule/curriculum that worked for your family one year might not work for you the next.

Did you find it difficult to homeschool while they were all so young?

      From other homeschool moms I know, they don’t really consider it “schooling” when you’re dealing with kids that young. They’d be toddlers doing pre-K at the most, and toddlers learn a lot through play. I personally don’t feel like kids that young need a structured education, if that makes sense. Like they aren’t really going to have the attention span for that.

    Hello! I’m new to your channel. The idea of homeschooling our kids has been around for a while though. I tried to homeschool the last 6 months before kindergarten. My almost 6 year old is only a couple of months into kindergarten and all ready they are telling me they will have to hold him back. He goes to an accelerated school so I guess it’s understandable that he should already have a full kindergarten education but it’s still disheartening. My older son also goes to this school. He’s in the third grade and is struggling greatly as well. I asked him what he thought about me homeschooling him and his brother. He loved the idea. But I am terrified I will fail them.

    Hi I plan on homeschooling my youngest child for the new school year. It will be my first. I do have two older boys that I have decided they will stay in public school next year, until I kinda get a feel of what I’m doing when it comes to homeschooling. I wasn’t sure I could handle all three children with it being my first year homeschooling. My goal is to home school all three. But I don’t think I can all at once this first year. And I can’t help to feel guilty about it, because I feel like I will be spending more time with my daughter and not my boys and I just don’t want them to get hurt. Does anyone have advice or could relate to this?

    Do you ever feel like a total failure after a homeschool day? Most days are great, but some days, I feel like I’m robbing my child of joy. Please tell me you feel this way!

      Jennifer, I certainly have tough days. This is only my 2nd year homeschooling. I try to learn from the bad days and ask myself things like "am I expecting too much?", "are we going too fast?", "do we just need a break?" How old is your kiddo?

      We all have bad days. I don’t struggle with them not having joy because I know I’m sparing them a lot of turmoil being home but we do have bad days
