Excelebration to win the QEII and his nemesis , the greatest miler of all time, Frankel to seal a truly fantastic career with victory in the aptly named Champion Stakes. I feel privileged to have witnessed this great horse in all his victories over the past three seasons, and I really hope that Frankel has a long and successful career at stud. Horses like Frankel come along once or twice in a lifetime and I am thankful that I was here to enjoy the exploits of this brilliant animal.

what a fantastic put together film of Frankel. well done. we must not compare todays horses and theirs a lot on both frankel and black caviar. They are both amazing in their own right and I am very much looking forward to them both. I was at newbury fo the lokinge and was just messmorised (if i spelt that right lo) for the rest of the day ..... awsome.

Excelebration as put beyond all concievable doubt how great Frankel is by winning the Jacque Le Marois today beating 9 Gr1 winners including 8 horses who have won a Gr1 over a mile. If that form isn't solid enough to grant Frankel's reputation as the worlds best and one of the greatest of all time then I don't know what he needs to do to prove it! Glad for Excelebration, He deserved that and what a shrewd investment from Coolmore yet again...

What a horse, Im sure Black Caviar is a fine horse but if she ever tried to put it up to Frankel over a mile he'd leave her for dead, Shes a sprinter through and through. The way she won the 5f race the other day told us that. Pure power and speed, Frankel as all the same tools but as stamina to go with it. When he's winning all the mile and a quarter races next year he will stamp himself as the finest thoroughbred the world as seen since Sea Bird II...

Until the horseracing phenomenon called Frankel arrived on the scene, I would never have believed that there would be another horse, in my lifetime, that could have matched Brigadier Gerard as a miler, let alone outshone him. But that is exactly what Frankel has done. I have been involved in racing far too long for my head to be turned by "flash in the pan" performances, and for the first couple of races that is what I thought Frankel was. I now have absolutely no doubt that he is the best.

I don't profess to know a whole hell of a lot. But one thing I do know is that in his 40+ years as a trainer, Sir Henry Cecil has trained some incredible horses, and in his 40+ years as an owner, Prince Khalid Abdullah has owned some incredible horses. When both say that Frankel is the best they've ever trained, owned, or seen, you can't just summarily dismiss that as hype.

  • @ASupremeOwl

I think it's really hard to compare the all-time greats across generations. But in my 30+ years of following this sport Frankel is without a doubt one of the greatest horses I've seen in my lifetime. I'm not sure I can remember another horse who's first big initial burst of speed left fields so helpless and settled the race as quickly as Frankel's initial burst of speed did. Whether you think Frankel's the greatest ever or not, it's not likely we'll see another horse of his caliber for 30 years.

Not only that, Excelebration was racing left handed for the first time in his life having travelled 10,000 miles to race on a rock hard surface having only 13 days previous raced on bottomless ground at Ascot. To only go 2 lengths down after that is some performance. Would Wise Dan have beat Excelebration in Europe so easily or in the QE2 the race before the Breeders Cup Mile? Who knows but Wise Dan only beating Excelebration by 2 lengths just further enhances how good Frankel was...

@@keithwilliams2077 what are you talking about ? Black Caviar tore 2 muscles that day and STILL won, beating that year's French Horse of the Year. Even the UK's very own Euro biased Timeform rated that performance as the 3rd worst of her career so let that sink in.......she put up the 3rd WORST performance of her career and that was still good enough to win Royal Ascot's premier sprint race, beating that year's French Horse of the Year !! Had she ran to her true form she's have won in a canter by 6 lengths being eased down the last 100m. Soul was getting beaten easily by Star Witness (placed in both Kings Stand & Diamond Jubilee the next year - should have won the Kings Stand after blowing the start) at level weights and the start prior to Star Witness leaving for the UK Black Caviar destroyed him 8 lengths giving the colt 11lbs (5kg) yet there was Soul finishing on Black Caviar's heels at Ascot. Soul needed to find 5 lengths to be competitive with Star Witness what did he need to find to be competitive with Black Caviar if Star Witness was getting beaten 8 lengths by the wonder mare carrying 11lbs less ? 15 lengths ? 18 lengths ? So you either believe Soul miraculously found 15 lengths as soon as he hopped of the plane in the UK or you believe Black Caviar ran way below her best due to the injuries she sustained. I ask you which is the more likely scenario ? It's pretty obvious isn't it ?

Frankel is hugely impressive, there is no taking away that at all, and for me he does deserve to be, at this time, the highest rated horse in the world.
For me that is on his 2000 guineas run though, I still find that the most impressive.
Far as BC taking him on, I just don't really see that happening at all. She's a sprinter, he's a miler. If there was a higher rated horse at a mile and a half, or 2 mile, would you expect Frankel to them on when you don't know if he can run the distance?

Yes she's come to Royal Ascot and as been took out of her comfort zone but so have alot of Aussie sprinters down the years, There isn't anything in this field that should trouble her. Its funny the injury to Canford Cliffs came a week after the Sussex and not immediately, I don't think He was ever injured. Another ploy by the Coolmore team, He was comfortably dispatched by Frankel. Frankels sectionals on courses more undulating than anything Black Caviar as ever seen aren't a million miles away, Seeing as though shes a sprinter her sectionals should be that much better but in the Guineas Frankel was running sub 11 furlongs for the first 4 furlongs and Newmarket - Rowley Mile is probably the stiffest mile straight in the world. It was a freakish performance

  • @ASupremeOwl

This horse could have been retired by now but the fact Khalid Abdullah as kept him in training shows you want a sporting man he is, If his pedigree is anything to go by the step up in trip can only bring about improvement and I cannot see a horse in the world today that would trouble Frankel over a mile or for that matter a mile and a quarter. The race for Black Caviar and Frankel would be 7 furlongs and I would love to have witnessed such a race. Generations are always robbed of big races...

the reason we dont have big numbers traveling internationally here in america is because most of our horses wouldnt be able to race anywhere else because of all the banned substances in other countries that we give our horses.tvg a few months back had a big piece on that reason.simon bray was talking about when they would buy yearlings and 2 year olds here then bring them back to europe how a month later the horses would lose so much size because they werent on steroids.

Lee you make good points. However, with regards to dodging the derby, it was a good move, earlier on in the 3 year old season he was very excitable and temperamental, he would have spend most of the derby fighting Tom trying who would be trying to get him to settle, using petrol and probably falling flat on his face on the home stretch. He's settled more now and should get 10f and we'd all hope 12 (being out of Galileo) but 12 doesn't seem to be getting mentioned much. So maybe it is a bit far.

To be fair, timeform rates Australian horses higher than any other rating system. The WTA which isn't Eurobiased slants even more in the European direction. Timeform and all handicapping/rating systems have your sprinters as the best. But the majority of the top horses come from Europe as rated by all organisations. do you not think that it's possible, with all this info in mind. That Euroracing is of a higher standard at the minute? Experts are in a better position to call rather than me or you

Having experienced the horses in our own countries we are going to think ours are stronger going off opinion and some facts we take ourselves to prove our points. I completely agree with you to an extent. Our prize money is pitiful and only serves to maintain the status quo amongst the large breeding operations and the smaller operations find it very difficult to make a living. Then you have all the bookmakers making millions and then moving their operations offshore so they don't have to pay tak to our government, they are the ones who should be increasing the prize money in the game over here as they are the ones getting the most out of the sport.

All good mate. And we will never see Frankel in Aus, there is no way they would ever do that, and while I think that it is funny how they always expect Australian horses to travel over to the UK to 'prove' themselves, they only ever send their 2 milers to Australia. They would be risking too much with Frankel to send him abroad. If they took a go at the Arc with him, and he won, then hate to say it but I would have to really think he is the best ever.

  • @joshuadoherty562
    @joshuadoherty562 12 ปีที่แล้ว

You make a good point. But it's quality rather than quantity that counts. Your horses generally enjoy the most success in sprints but our sprinters aren't very highly rated either and to be honest I can't really think of an Aussie horse from the top of my head that has won top middle distance races in Europe. I know SYT won in Ireland against pretty poor fields , but in England I think Timeform got him bang on. What are your views of the WTR's mate? Because they show an even bigger gap.

His next start in the Victoria Derby his win was outstanding beating Prince Darius by 8 lengths. Prince Darius then ran in the Melbourne Cup & was beaten a head. Tulloch missed his 4yo & most of his 5yo year but still came back & won a Cox Plate, 2x QE Stks, Mackinnon Stks etc @ Grp1 level

Just 2 points there kopking; firstly your view that Secretariat is the greatest of all time is your opinion. To say it is clear is inaccurate, especially taking into account his 5 defeats. Frankel has not even been pushed yet, we don't know how good he actually could be. He hasn't just beaten his opposition, he has destroyed it time and again. He could be ANYTHING. Time will tell us where he finally stands but he has earned the right to be mentioned alongside any horse.

Oh I agree that the majority of people from the UK think their horses are the best, and they also think that they have the best races as well, though some at least admit that the French have the best race in the world with the Arc. My point was that I respect Frankel and think he is hugely impressive, particularly his last win. I think to be considered best ever, he needs to race somewhere else other than the UK. By the way mate, I'm an Aussie as well, love BC, but also admire Frankel.

If you really knew racing.. in this current age where horses are prepared and trained for a certain distance.. sprinter, miler, stayer.. you would never say that distance is irrelevant...
The racing world has changed, we are not in the era where you saw a horse like Kingston Town was able to win at 1200m and stretch out and win the Sydney Cup at 3200m (2 miles). It just doesn't work like that anymore, get used to it.

  • @joshuadoherty562

Frankel is a miler. He's won G!'s at a mile and 7furlongs. If all goes to plan he will have won G1's at 10f by the end of the season. Meaning if all goes to plan he'll have won at a sprint distance a mile and a middle distance. Yes there are differences in % there but the point of fact is its still a 800m difference between 1200 (her optimal) and 2000 as there is 1600 (his optimal) and 2400. You've just used % to twist the argument in her favor knowing I mean actual variance in distances.

@MrDraven37 mate that is just an example of what he does to horses and they are quality horses, just no where near the quality of Frankel. CC didn't lose by that much because that race was run in a different manner. Why do you think no horses have tried to set a fast early pace in Frankel's races? What would happen if BC ran her final 3f sectionals at the start of her race?

  • @watchinginawe

I'd argue that Excelebration to be fair to him is a top quality horse, who had a bad day. I fear the Queen Anne may have broken him and he'll never be the same again. I honestly think the only other real opposition is CDA and SYT. I know Atlantic Jewel would also be good to see but we all know what happened to BC and what the rigours of travel can do. I certainly wouldn't put my horse though what she had to.

When Queally unleashed Frankel, Richard Hughes and Canford Cliffs were left for dead. Canford Cliffs was retired because of the investment Coolmore had made in him. They knew two defeats at the hands of a potential Juddmonte stallion wasn't good news for them, Theres noway Canford Cliffs was ever going to turn the tables on Frankel and he was swiftly scuttled on to stud to preserve his reputation...

  • @makoceans

Yep I wish the owner would've realized that Frankel needed to go out, not for money but to create bigger audience for this sport.. that being said I think Frankel proved on various situations across country on different tracks and goings, left/right-handed tracks, sharp/gallop tracks, etc, Also its easy to forget that he beat numerous adversaries that won international trophies like Breeders Cup in St Nicholas Abbey, etc

Look at the timeform, they know more than me and you! They seem to back up my opinion that BC races donkeys and destroys them whereas Frankels race thoroughbred racehorses at the top of their game and destroys them. He can win from the front, win being held up ... He's so versatile! His pace is matched by BC but its his cruising speed that is so high that can be held for much longer than BC!

He wins by 11 lengths so people refuse to put it down to Frankel brilliance and immediately question the other horses? He beat Nathienel who subsequently beat Workforce, Sir Nicolas' Abbey, Rewilding. He destroyed Canford Cliffs by 5l in GG who beat Goldikova and I doubt even you can question her ability. Your argument is flawed, infact its offensive.

Your all theories on Black Caviar beating Frankel over a mile is pure madness, She wouldn't get a mile in her horse box in Europe hence the reason for swerving the Sussex Stakes if connections really thought she had a chance over a mile she'd be heading for the Sussex Stakes. Instead shes heading back home to beat another bunch of no hopers to prove what exactly? Hasn't she proved herself continually back in Australia and for that matter in the middle east?

I'm not about to enter the "Who's the best ever" argument, but it pains me to hear that people think Frankel's opposition has been crap. In his first race he beat Nathaniel, who went on to win the King George at Ascot beating Derby and Arc winner Workforce. Canford Cliffs was a brilliant horse who beat 3 time breeders cup winner Goldikova comfortably, but he was murdered by Frankel. July cup winner Dream Ahead proved no match for Frankel. There are countless others. Frankel is a superstar.

  • @ASupremeOwl
    @ASupremeOwl 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Better than Frankel on what basis exactly? How have you come to that judgement? If you look at both Black Caviar and Frankels best rivals on the track it would be Haylist and Excelebration both rated by the international handicapper at 126. Frankel as beaten Excelebration continually by either 4 or 5 lengths. The most Black Caviar as ever beat Hay List is 3 1/4 lengths and on there last couple of meetings Hay List as continually closed the gap... So tell Me, How is she better?
