Thank you very much for the info, I can't believe I didn't find this video before. I thought the fix was going to be very difficult but you make it look like it's easy. As soon as I get home I'm going to try your methods. I used to drive around during snowstorms pulling out people who are stuck but one day my 4x4 suddenly went out
Thank you for making this video. I just got My 91 Chevy Silverado back in December. My 4 wheel drive worked for a little while but it stopped working. Glad to learn from your video. It's my first 4 wheel drive truck. Thanks again
hi Doug, You are the best. Great video on exactly the problem I was having. It was also exactly what needed to me replaced. THANK YOU for doing this. You are wonderful.
GOd Bless YOU , I'm 82 years old and have a 1990 GMC k1500 that I have used on My Property down here in Alabama and for all these Years the ole dawg never let Me down and I Googled the problem and Wah lah I found You a Friend that solved I think My Problem. Going toAutoZone to get One . Thank You , "Sweet Home Alabama" Earl
Thank you so much for this video! Chilton's manual was a complete waste of time and money! Your TH-cam video was so helpful! My truck is an '88. Nobody nowadays knows anything about something older than they are! Keep It Stupid Simple, KISS is my best theme. Update on my situation: my truck has no fuse in the fuse block. Chilton's manual has nothing on the 4x4 system at all! No wiring diagram, no diagnostics, nothing!
Thanks for taking your time and making this video it helped me mine went out today and I got it fixed after watching your video I really appreciate your help
Thanks from another WI guy. I appreciate your help! Taking the time to post etc. As you might imagine. 1990 3500 dually is helpless in slick March WI! Andy
Thank you for the video it help me lots there’s lots of trucks out there and there’s not enough videos to educated us and safe money thank you the quick and easy fix safe me lots of money and time thank you 🙏
You can check continuity on the actuator plug, OL means new actuator; while you're there you can also check for 12v on the plug with the key on - when the 4wd fuse blows its usually a short to ground which is also 90% of the time the actuator.
When the actuator doesn't blow the fuse you can "repair" them. You need to remove the boot and soak it in atf for a few minutes. Once you work the atf through it it'll work again, sometimes for a long while
What do I do if the plug to the actuator isn’t getting fire at all put a test light on it and nothing I made sure I had a good ground on the test light
Thanks for video. You've made my day. It's simple fix after watching video. Couldn't find any other ones that just like 👍 it. I have a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado with the thermal actuator. Is there is possibility I can convert it to newer electronic version do an part # 600-101.
What is that big white connector go to? What is it called? Mine is disconnected ( needs to be replaced ) it’s all covered in oil an broken It’s a 4 prong
I replaced the actuator and I’m getting fire to the plug and I took the actuator out while it was plugged to make sure for a fact that it was working pushing in and out the light by the stick is on telling me it’s engaged but it’s definitely not engaged what do I do
I’m thinking my 4 wheel drive keeps engaging on its own and the light that shows the 4 wheel drive is always on even when in 2 wheel drive. Any suggestions on what I should do
I think you're not supposed to shift in or out above 45 MPH. And I've heard you shouldn't shift into 4WD when stopped (but I'm not certain that's true). Just be rolling (coasting) and if you have an automatic, shift to neutral first.
1995 Chevy Silverado four wheel stick on the floor. When I bought the thing used, I did the normal parking lot test yesterday to see if the four-wheel high and four-wheel low worked. Yesterday was my first opportunity to put it into four-wheel high it engage then while driving 1000 to 3000 rpm I put the shifter to neutral then put the floor stick to 4 lo it engage properly when I’m trying to put it back on 2h my floor lever stock on NEUTRAL, Tried putting the shifter on neutral position (engine running)then tried to manually shift it to 2h or 4h or 2l still not working..still lock on neutral I’m worried coz every time I forced it I hear gear grinding noise so right now the truck is not moving.aNy idea what could be my issue? Help pls..trying to figure out by myself before spend money on mechanic.thank you
The trans case shifter fork has nylon slides that wear out... and that lets the engagement gear to float back and forth.... watch a few rebuild vids and youll see this is a problem cause by shifting on the fly. I found pieces of nylon in my oil. Hope this helps
Thanks for the information maybe that's why my 95 4x4 doesn't work haven't had the time to look at it but I'll put a test light on it and check the fuse you need a refrigerator for your man cave
Do you know if there's any way you could bypass that say you're in the pickle you know like stuck in the middle of the Woods you don't want to have to walk 20 miles. I'm talking like temporary

Thank you for this video,, made my repair so easy when I found a blown 15amp fuse where the 25amp fuse should be

Good explanation. I am going to resurrect a 3/4 ton with manual trans thats been sitting for about 5 yrs. Going to mount a plow on it
My fuse blew, and couldnt find ANY vids with the floor shifter like my '89. Thank you sir. About to go out and crawl under it again and fix it
Richard McLean I got an 89 too, did you get it working.
Would you able to fix it?
@@scorpion5700 , @James Zablan fixed it right away, and it was super easy
@@jameszablan7340 I did, it was actually pretty easy too
@@scorpion5700 Im usually on top of replies, sorry I missed yours, hope you got it going easily
Worked for me! Checked power by checking power with key on and put in 4hi, had power. Bought actuator and it's fixed. thanks
Thanks for the video. Very informative, and it was fun to see your truck. I have the exact same year, make, model, and paint scheme.
Thanks alot mine went out this morning went to napa and got a new one for 200 bucks and fixed it but will be going to autozone next time
Thank you for the video it help me lots there’s lots of trucks out there and there’s not enough videos to educated us and safe money thank you the quick and easy fix safe me lots of money and time thank you 🙏
Great info just did exactly the same thing and away we go, thank you
replaced the differential actuator and found out the reason it kept blowing fuses! thanks
Thank you for this very simple and informative video, I'll be fixing mine tomorrow.
I wonder where the fuse is in my 88. I hope it's not a fusible link.
Thank you! So helpful!!
Thanks for the info exactly what my issue was

My shift light in 4low flickered for a second and then went out, no light in 4 low. Doesn't cause 4 wheel drive not to work?
So Doug, what if my 4x4 fuse keeps popping??
I’m thinking my 4 wheel drive keeps engaging on its own and the light that shows the 4 wheel drive is always on even when in 2 wheel drive. Any suggestions on what I should do
Is there another name the actuator goes by? Autozone doesn’t have it in there system so I’m wonder if it actually has a different name
Very helpful thanks!!
What is the best process to shift these trucks into 4wd. I bought one for a farm vehicle and this is the first one that I have had with a floor shift.

What’s that switch by the light switch I have that switch but I can’t read it on my truck
Great video. Go Bears.
I had to put one in my 92
Would that be the same on a blazer
I’m having a problem we’re it feels like my front right side wheel is pulling and the left just doesn’t do anything
Thanks for the information maybe that's why my 95 4x4 doesn't work haven't had the time to look at it but I'll put a test light on it and check the fuse you need a refrigerator for your man cave
I have A 95 and the light stopped coming on but as far as I can tell 4 HI and low still work fine. I wheel it all the time

Take actuator out, add walnut or something for a spacer, put actuator back in and shift into 4wd and go.
thank you. inerestimg and useful ('89 sierra k1500) i gadda get under it !
Thank you! Go Packers
Did u put more oil back into the transfer case ?
no but I put some more in the front differential
Need help cause I replaced my and still not engaging. I even replaced the back censor on the transfer case. Nothing.
im having the same problem did you figur out your problem?
my 88 truck in one of those connections had a thickened wire and the 4x4 would not activate
Thanks
I almost sold mine for $300 I only paid $400 for it drove it for 4 years
Your oil leak is as bad as mine. :)
probably from the oil cooler lines. but on his bright side, it keeps his truck from rusting!
I have changed that and it still doesn't engage the light comes on when I put it out n 4 low it acts like it goes in but the front won't spin
So simple even a caveman can do it😇
Crescent is a brand not the name of the tool. It's an adjustable wrench
I'm sure glad we have that cleared up
