This was entertaining and informative. I've had a denim jacket from Todd Snyder for a few years and always thought it quite odd that there were no handwarmer pockets. Now I know the inspiration and reasoning behind its construction. Thanks for the continued top shelf content, cheers!
They make some great stuff, good choice! Sounds like they’re keeping it nice and traditional 👍 I know it’s less practical but I prefer the way it looks!
I picked up a Lee Storm Rider on Marrkt a couple of years ago. Initially I wasn't too keen on the fit. Its a bit boxier that the Rider due to it's blanket lining. I grown to love it though and its a great autumn/early spring daily driver. Lee 101 are constantly going back to their back catalogue and re-producing a lot of the classic designs and doing a much better job than LVC.
spot on James , the 101 Rider is, imo (have 2) is the best pound for pound denim jacket out there. I kept one new , the other i bought 2nd hand I distressed to an inch of its life.
Heritage and History: The Lee Rider 101J Selvedge denim jacket has a rich heritage and history dating back to its introduction in the 1940s. Originally designed as a durable workwear garment for cowboys and laborers, it has since become an iconic piece of Americana fashion, beloved for its rugged charm and vintage appeal.
Brilliant video, really getting a benefit from these. I've been wearing denim jackets since forever, and the stuff about the hand pockets had never occurred to me. Great fit by the way! 🙂
Glad to you liked it! Same here, I always looked at vintage jackets and wondered why they seem to fit so much better! It’s less convenient but worth the sacrifice. Thanks for watching!
I recently have selvedge levis 150th jeans and looking to purchase if there is a selvedge denim available and here you are rocking this one. Just got same indigo color from levis and I loving it. This one though is another level up as I want my clothes to be looking normal but is deep inside is a special one. Selvedge are Low key denim. I wish levis makes selvedge jacket also that aren’t impossible to acquire.
Personally I love having hand warmer pockets and I use them all the time but I do like the look of a traditional type 3 better than a modified. My iron heart jacket is one of my favorite articles of clothing and it has hand warmer pockets and I've often wished that it could somehow be shorter while still keeping the pockets
May I ask, is this size S? And what waist jeans do you normally wear? I wear a 30 waist and size S usually fits me very well but I'm worried it would be too tight in this jacket...
Great jacket and agree with the subtle details! If you haven’t read this book already, I recommend Ametora by W. David Marx. Great read and fascinating history.
I know!! Honestly I think I just got lucky - the seller was just keen to get rid of all their stuff so they priced it low. The materials alone are probably worth £100!
40 dollars is crazy, what a deal. im thinking of buying the 1953 type ii selvedge jacket from levis but it costs 400 dollars, but i can get it for about 222
your jacket is one wash so it will still feel semi raw. and there is no need to wash it at all. once brocken in it will still fade although i personally like minimal fades
@@MD-ms1rnno idea … I’m familiar with the type 1,2 and 3 the most popular one….also known as the trucker … they’ve all been updated over the years… plus Levi’s been doing collaborations too….
How do you wash it??? also, I have a Levi 1967 type three but extra large was thinking about taking it to the dry cleaner and make it a large. What do you think about that in your opinion???
I haven’t washed mine yet, I don’t plan on washing it unless it gets really dirty. You might be able to shrink it but I have never tried so I’m not sure how to do it properly!
nice video ,everything worked great ,im going to get the 501's and i wear a wrangler levi jacket now, and i love it ,intersting facts on yours tho, verynice video you did not try to shoe a bunch of items at us,kept it down to one basic look, which i liked, also the belt looked great had not thought about that style before,i live minutes from Uniglo so i'll check them out today'your a nice guy james ,stay safe see ya next week,CHEERS👍💙🇺🇸🇺🇦
Nice items mate, I’m sure you’ll love them! That’s so nice living next to Uniqlo - I’d be in there all the time 😂 thanks for the kind words and thank you for watching!
They remake them too long due to modern trends, so they really aren't a faithful reproduction. They don't sit at the natural waist because most people now wear low to mid rise trousers. Honestly, to me, that jacket could be an inch shorter. I consider a jacket length of 23" too long.
This Type is the Real McCoy. The chest pockets should end on the level of the 4th botton (as It is in the picture with the red line and the red circle). Your jacket is too long compared to the original.
Maybe people think that the closer someone's face it to the camera, the more they know what they're talking about... or something, IDK what the logic is. Its like I can smell your breath; common man.
Love that jacket man. The fit is so good. You got it for a great price too!
JLxHH collab video soon? 🤞
Yeah I lucked out with this one!! Thanks for watching man.
Such a timeless piece. The fitted design looks great, it would also look good buttoned up. Super versatile!
Yeah I can’t wait to wear it in! Thanks for watching 😀

I kinda want the storm rider as well but I’ve resisted! Yeah agreed, the Lee vintage line is so nice!
That's a great jacket, and looks like it was made just for you (the way you like pieces to fit). The outfit is 🔥 bro.
Thank you man! The fit on it is nearly perfect so I’m feeling very lucky!
@@JamesLeung when you find a piece like that at the price you did, it is just so fulfilling.
That's an awesome find! I want to get a nice denim jacket eventually, this will have to go on my list.
Check eBay, sometimes vintage ones come up for a steal!

Glad you agree mate! I bet you love the distressed one most! 👍 I wish I had discovered mine sooner so it could be more distressed
I found one for £20 in london … of course a repro from Tunisia…I love the dry Lois jeans that are being released atm and I also love the Uniqlo ts

Just found this vid while looking for lee, lee storm rider is fr the best denim jacket, only on par with a type 1
Agreed!

Lovely video James - very personal and great combination of jacket with 501s and Red Wings
Thank you mate!
Have fun with your new jacket, mate. It's really a interesting piece, which suites you very well, James 👍🏽🙂
Thanks a lot man! 🙏

Sometimes Levi’s make selvedge but it can be very expensive unfortunately. I have seen some vintage Levi’s selvedge but again very expensive!

Yeah I know what you mean, they are nice to have sometimes! Unfortunately it always makes the jacket too long for me so I have to avoid them!
sick find! The styling is spot on with those redwings. Gonna go down the selvedge wormhole now?
Thanks! I think this might be the way 🤣 it’s my second piece of selvedge so far. How about you?
Good choice. Which size did you buy this in or if they left the size tag off, do you happen to know the pit to pit measurement? Ha, sorry to ask
The size tag is missing! But it’s roughly 20 inches pit to pit, I would guess small or medium?
Sounds like a medium, thanks. Lee jackets can be perfect for a cool boxy cropped fit.
Wow! What a steal! Looks great
Thank you man! 😀

Thanks for watching! I’ve heard about that book, I really do need to read it because I love Japanese Americana!!
man that price is crazy, do samples of clothing items tend to skew around lower prices like that?

oooh the red wing mocs, im dying for a pair in briar oil 😮
They are so nice in that colour mate! I got mine second hand for a bargain so worth keeping an eye out.

I’m about a 38 chest and around 5ft 10

planning to buy this jacket ... what is the sizing like:? what size are your jacket?
Mine doesn’t have a size label on it but it’s about 20 inches across the chest so size 38-40 which I guess is a medium
thanks@@JamesLeung

The thing I've always disliked about denim jackets is how high they are to the waist and how long the sleeves are
That’s actually the thing I love about them haha. But everyone has different tastes 👍
Most of the jackets I've seen have long length and average fitting sleeves and imo those look so bad lol
great find!
Thanks!
Well we see the selvedge line at the bottom so most likely it's going to be raw denim.
350-400 pounds is crazy
Love it, James! I appreciate the ramble 🙂
Also denim jacket is 100% natural/biodegradeable 🌍
Haha glad someone enjoyed it 😀 it’s definitely a jacket for life!

No pockets, not functional, pass
Are you not wearing any pants with pocket?

The only current Selvedge version on the Lee site has side pockets.
