New LA Resident here, learning about the culture. Videos like these help a lot. Florida is different. Most of our "race riots" are between black and white, but Florida is a much whiter state. Hispanics in florida are mostly puerto rican/cuban so gang culture didn't really take off. I didn't even realize the Asian American community in Southern California had gangs, but that's just how LA is.
I was born and brought up in LA for the first couple years of my life and I dont remember much but throughout my life for visits and stuff i got to re-learn about the region. honestly is crazy to think that when celebrities and other outside people think of LA they think of glamour and hollywood showbiz but not see all the shit that natives see.
I've always thought it's really weird how LA is so racially segregated bro. I grew up in Oakland and it's a whole different world up here. Black, Mexican, Vietnamese, Samoan, Filipino, etc all grow up in the same hoods out here in the Bay, so nobody trips over race. The Norteño gangs usually have black and Asians in their gang and it's not a problem. There's still hella violence and crime but it's usually never a race thing. Always interested to see how different LA politics are compared to NorCal. Glad you're doing good bro

One thing I’ve noticed about K-town is that the Latinos are more concentrated on the southern and eastern ends, whereas the northern and western ends are more diverse. I had family who went to Wilton Place Elementary, and their area was a pretty good mix of Koreans and Latinos. My parents once lived off of 3rd and Vermont, and that area has some Bengalis living alongside Latinos. But heading down on Vermont south from Wilshire or down 8th street in general, the faces I see are overwhelming Latino.
I’m Bengali and yeah, Little Bangladesh is located right there in KTown. I’ve heard Bengalis get along fairly well with the Latino community. The majority of the Bengalis in LA are very impoverished though, mostly visa immigrants. Very different compared to Bengalis in OC who are mostly lower - middle class. But yeah I grew up going to that side of KTown every weekend growing up. Lots of memories playing basketball at Shatto
@@layla.12. i remenber when the Koreans weremt too happy about that one strip being called "little bengali " iits barely even a block of businesses on that strip ..ive eaten there
Went to Cahuenga, moved around a bit and came back to go to LA High. Had 2 riots while I was in highschool and had more then a couple of run ins with the latinos there. Surprisingly didn't have to much friction with the MS in my hood though (Around 8th and Berendo). Only had one member come up to me while I was waiting for my Korean taxi, hit me up and then chatted a bit after I told him I don't bang. Most of the violence I went through was with other Koreans and Asians most of the time. Surprised you only mentioned ACS because I think i'm only a bit older then you and i remember MBZ, LGKK and heard about KTG getting big (after I moved away and came back again). Also a shit ton of other asian gangs would come to Ktown to drink and party so had run ins with Wah Ching, Black Dragons, STS, BNG and ABZ and tha'ts only naming a few. It seemed like all the Asian gangs would come to party in Ktown when I was growing up in the 90's and 2000's.

Wealthy parents, living in a house, driving ricers, etc. Uptick trend after the Korean movie, General's Son. Funny cuz that movie is from my pop's era, he belonged to the Myung Dong region. Growing up in K-town, gangs were inevitable. As a kid, lived on the same block with XV3, then encountering KK, BIS, CYS, ABS, ABZ, KSWC, ABB, KTM, LGKK, JFX, STS, SOS, etc. growing up. The Korean-American gangs were very active when I was a younster back in the early 2000's. I lived in the Hollywood area, and would sometimes wander into K-Town. The gangsters were always present back then, and in large numbers. They dressed very similar to Hispanic gang members. The whole "Cholo" look was popular amongst Asian gangsters in those days. You don't see to much of that in K-Town anymore. Or in LA for that matter.
East hollywood (oakwood, little armenia, melrose hill, dayton heights) is still active but was crazy active in the early 2000's . K town is still active to this day. I got banged on by an asian over near filipinotown just last summer was a wild situation

Stereotypes about Asians being wealthy are super inaccurate! My mom is half korean. She grew up poor. Her mother was an immigrant and her father was former military, with no college education. She always struggled and hand nothing handed to her in life. This is why I like Sergio's TH-cam channel. It presents a more nuanced perspective on the Asian-American experience
How dumb do you have to be to think your experience is the norm? You gave us a personal anecdote not statistical data. Why do people do this? It would be like me saying cigarettes don't actually cause cancer because I know an old person that's been smoking most of their life and they don't have cancer. It's called an exception. Why is everyone so dumb now that basic stuff like this needs to constantly be explained to people?
Shit I grew up in Korea town in the 80’s early 90’s I went to Hoover elementary, then Berendo Junior high then moved right after the riots of 92, funny part is we went from Korea town to move east to Rowland Heights which is all Chinese now.....Lol luv Asians. I'm going to spend my birthday weekend in Koreatown next week. The last time I was in the LA area, Ronald Reagan was in the White House. I was still an elementary school kid. lived on 3rd and vermont ( between vermont and normandie). MS13 and KK dominated the area back in 2000. I moved there at 18, i got hit up by MS13, they were warring with 18 at the time. i used to frequent this pool spot i wanna say whilshire and vermont but cant remember it was 20 years ago. long story short, ALL koreans. we were only 18 yrs old but they sold us beer and let us smoke indoors, no id needed we just did what they did lol. we didnt even mingle with them, since we're not korean, but you can tell there was some bosses there. after awhile they were relaxed with our presence and didnt mind us at all. anyways one day we went there to pull up and play pool.....yellow tap everywhere. KK murked someone and the place was figured out and closed. KK also got someone at the bowling alley on shatto(sp) and vermont near the sizzler and sprayed that shit down with an automatic. folks think K-town aint lit, shiet my ass. you could see cholos taxing the vendors on 3rd.
oh and shout outs to the donut shot off 3rd too and vermont too. the notorious rampart division used to always be posted over there to get their pig on LOL.

I'm from Washington and Crenshaw. I enjoyed your story.
💯🖤🎲 Def, can relate!!! We're SAMOAN & from #SanDiego #619 #NationalCity #ElCajon Area's , We grew up wit da Pinoy's Filipinos Our 2nd Fam / Bros from another mother.
I went to Virgil Junior High in the year 2000. Damn I dodge a bullet when I left there in the 8th grade.
Bro im working in construction there right now on Serrano Ave where you used live n sumone got popped near n we still building apartments in koreatown, LA is not safe
Hahaha that's a trip i was just i KTown yesterday . did u haed tk kick it with those dudes from Odd Future - although they are more west side.they were skaters too. Wow what was up with blacks and Korean youth back then? The part of LA that i grew up in they didnt go against each other.
Stereotypes about Asians being wealthy are super inaccurate! My mom is half korean. She grew up poor. Her mother was an immigrant and her father was former military, with no college education. She always struggled and hand nothing handed to her in life.
This is why I like Sergio's TH-cam channel. It presents a more nuanced perspective on the Asian-American experience
dont change the fact that on average east asian is rich and well educated.
We ballin and living the good life. 😎
Why is everything so dang expensive in your Korean stores then?
Hey bro can you tell me anything about the concussive blasts and bright flash ive heard about?
Shit I grew up in Korea town in the 80’s early 90’s I went to Hoover elementary, then Berendo Junior high then moved right after the riots of 92, funny part is we went from Korea town to move east to Rowland Heights which is all Chinese now.....Lol luv Asians. I still miss Korea town here and there.
Yo that’s crazy been watching your videos and just noticed you must be around my age because I remember that 💊 era, I know because I was going to raves until that one girl OD at EDC smh 🤦♂️ what a party popper, but Ktown still active I be biking through there once in awhile but I stay in SC 51st, keep up the good work!
I'm going to spend my birthday weekend in Koreatown next week. The last time I was in the LA area, Ronald Reagan was in the White House. I was still an elementary school kid. When I was growing up I was like a wanna be Asian growing up. My friends were mostly Korean, Filipino, etc. So a lot of that cultural influence rubbed off on me.
Keep on wit the keepin on!! 👍🏽
can you do a vlog about asian gangs in koreatown and if you had any run ins with them?
yes that sounds like a great story time video ! I got you playa (:
What do you think about the famous contemporary artist David Choe? He's the first person I think of when I think of Koreatown

Which was better, the original A better tommorow or the remake?
Part of me wishes Pennsylvania had China Towns and Korea Towns just for the spectacle. But I'm glad that this state wasn't so racist, and that they felt welcomed in most areas.
Anyone heard of mentalboyz? I heard they were active in ktown once
how come you didn't go to hobart elementary?
My friend parents came from Philippines and bought a home on wileshire and it worth over 2 million today but a lot of homeless around. Crazy 🤪

Those apartments don't really look that bad at all. I've seen way worse and more poverty stricken apartments in other states and countries. Those look posh.
I'm from Fresno California
lived on 3rd and vermont ( between vermont and normandie).
2011 and he was in 9th grade...hes a young buck. Thought he lived through that shit in the late 90s early. Thats when shit was real
You mentioned KK’s but are they also know as K town boys or bozs?
Never been to K.Town in my life...
Hopefully, I can go there one day. Maybe you can be my guide dude 😁
