- This is your complete guide to the basic variant of Hong Kong style mahjong. There is a lot to learn, but I've tried to make it as concise as possible, including an introduction to the tiles, how you can build your hand, and how to start and play the game.

Wow! How did he make this super complicated game so clear? Also........ngl this man has a PLEASANT voice 👀- more videos please!
well, I think if he went into yaku, closed/open hands, and the prevailing/personal wind the video would be more comprehensive, but also 3 hours long
Thank you, as a Riichi player this video was helpful in learning the differences between Japanese (Riichi) and Hong Kong rules!
Yes, I have a few friends who are very keen on Riichi, I am planning to learn this style this year and may make a video on it in the future
@@MahjongSparrow Riichi is a lot of fun, plus more online clients with english translations. The Riichi Competetion Rules are the most accessible and unified ruleset.
This video saved my marriage! Thank you so much
Hands down the best mahjong tutorial I have seen. Thank you Mahjong Sparrow!

Really great explanation!
I’ve watched many MJ beginner basic tutorial videos and you one is the most well explained! Now I need to look for one that explains dealers and winds.
Thanks! You can have a look at my advanced video for an explanation of the Winds if you'd like!
Very informative! Thank you!!!!
This will be my must share YT clip to lure more of my foreign friends to learn Mahjong 😂😂😂 more “water fishes” for me LMAO
Just kidding. Love how you’ve summarized such a complex game within 10mins. Looking forward to your next clips 💪🏻

Thanks so much! It's the closest I'll ever get to a Royal Oak lmao
Thank you Mahjong Sparrow. After watching this video, I was able to restore honor back to my family.
Yeah, this is a great teaching video. Do you have any playthrough videos with this form of Mahjong? I want to learn this ruleset and feel that watching an actual game being played would only further my understanding. Thank you!
Thanks so much! I might upload a few games in the future
Looking forward to more content related to fan for fan 3 minimum tables.
It just dropped!
I just learned to play Mahjong from a friend today and it was so fun! We struggled with the setup mechanics so this was super helpful!
Btw, I've heard some sets (or at least my friend's 😅) may not come with flower tiles. Is that unusual? Does that change the setup mechanic or any other aspect of the game? Thanks in advance! 🙏🏾
Gambling is the best way to get the true mahjong experience
Finally can play the yakuza mini game.
can you make a video explaining how to play Pai Gow tiles?
Great video! One suggestion would be to use an American mahjong set where the numbers for the cracks and names of the winds are shown.
Doesn't have to be an american set -- you can find labelled chinese sets if you look around. My first set was a chinese set and was labelled.
i have a question, so when you have a flower, you will take one more tiles, but to the end of the wall, right? of the gong too right?
Yes exactly, you draw a tile from the end of the walls only when you draw a flower or when you Gong.
hong kong basic is so much more simple than riichi, I've gotta remember under the river, big 3 dragons, and the titular riichi to even sit down in a japanese style game, not to mention scoring.
Thanks for watching! Check out the new vid if you wanna compare Riichi with points-based HK mahjong
Have any recommendations for a mahjong table? Or just get a card table and junk mat?
Depending on where you live, I recommend checking out your local Chinatown, especially their so-called "99c" stores. If not, check out the Amazon links I put in the description. Hope this helps!
Nice!!! Really wanna learn how to mahjong!
Excellent! When’s the next video ??!!
Thanks! It just dropped!
@@MahjongSparrowThank you!
I am a Chinese, and I would like to know if foreigners are also very focused on playing mahjong?
There are many variants of mahjong, including an American version, so yes, quite a diversity of people play this great game!
Well, not in japan mahjong 🀄
