Hi Patt...when I put paint on paint I'm not getting an opaque covering of the under layer more a mud pie?
    Brilliant artwork BTW ❤

Hi Suzette, Is your underlayer dry? If it is wet and you are adding a colour from the opposite side of the colour wheel you will make grey or brown. If you stay in the same family of colour (analogous) you will avoid this when working wet into wet. Your paint may not be totally opaque therefore not giving a good covering snd allowing the under colour to show through making it look muddy. I am just making educated guesses here but perhaps it will be helpful for you. If you need more help I am available for a coaching call.

@@pattscrivenerartist thanks so much Patt for your wisdom an inspirational doings...I cannot even draw lol but as a Virgo I'm obsessional about getting this right!
.....so after the blotches of colour, mark making an my feeble attempt at a figure, I then block work the negative space an then use the acrylic opaque of the same side of the wheel to go over various bits so the under still shows through in parts...sorry for being so ott as a thank you im sending you a coffee ☕ xxxxx

@@suzettebuckley8827 As long as your underpainting is dry you can use any colour of paint. If it is transparent paint it will shift the colour underneath. This is called optical mixing. If you use opaque paint it will cover over the previous layer. I’m a Virgo too! Thanks for the coffee!
