This is a good video. I think it is important to understand that there is a difference between "heat tolerance" and "UV tolerance.""
You could have a tree that is "more" heat tolerant, but that does not mean it is high UV tolerant or that it can spend all day in that high heat and light.
I have learned this from experience out here in Texas. Summers are brutal out here, and the UV is extremely high.
My 'Geisha Gone Wild' looked like yours last year when I bought it...but this year it looks stunning, it still has pink in most of its leaves, I love it.
Thank you for experimenting with your Japanese maples and sharing with your Maple Nutz followers! I wish I could plant each of my maples, but unfortunately I can’t due to my small yard. Since many of my maples are in containers, I am inspired each time I watch your videos. The intense summer heat is something we are all struggling with. YOU ROCK! #Maple Nutz
You are so welcome my friend. 🙏🏻
Such great information here! Heat and sun tolerance are honestly one of the biggest struggles I’m dealing with right now. All my shady spaces in my landscape are used up by other trees so my choices have become strategic with sun-friendly plants. Thank you for sharing, #maplenutz 🥜 #japanesemaple 🍁 #landscape #summer #garden
We are all struggling with heat right now. I’m doing the same, cutting back on purchasing trees untilI figure my next move.
Maybe next year some of your new trees will be a bit more resilient because I can imagine that a lot of them did leaf out in a greenhouse with no direct/full sunlight and so not the full power of sun radiation.
I hope so. Thanks for the input. This is actually a real thing. They should be more resistant to heat next year.
1000k subscribers woot woot! 🎉❤🔥🌳congratulations! All your hard work is paying off and you hit your first milestone. #Maplenutz for life.
Thank you so much!!🎉🥳🎈
Trees will always be the most heat tolerant once planted in the ground and established after about 3 seasons. Container maples are always open to disaster.
Thanks for the information. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Congratulations for the 1k Amigo #maplenutz
Gracias 🙏🏻
I believe 'Seiryu' is pretty Heat Tolerant 😎 🌞 and vigorous. 💪
#MapleNutz
I need that tree. It’s been on my list for some time now.
@@MapleNutzget Seiryu! It is one of my anchors in my garden in hot, windy open sun. Of course I’m 6b and my highs are currently in the low 90’s not 100, but I’m on a windy hill with brutal south and western sun and it is tough. Although it’s in the ground so that helps. #Maplenutz for life.
I have a Seiryu planted in my backyard here in Dallas. We are zone 8a. I bought it as a 1-gallon and planted it in the ground in April. It gets about 8 hours of sun. The last 15 days have been over 100 degrees and it is fine. I had a Bloodgood in same location which dropped leaves. Seiryu is a beast.
I also have a seiryu, in the ground in full sun until maybe 4 - it’s crazy vigorous (kind of reminds me of bamboo!) and no signs of any heat stress at all - I also highly recommend it 👍, thanks #maplenutz for the video today
7a here, I moved my potted JMs to a mulch covered area to minimize reflective heat. 100 degrees and in the sun is brutal.
Hi, I just started with dwarf maples. Great collection you have there. What is the name of the first one? Shishiro?
Shishigashira
Very interesting experiment you have going on there. I have a couple of Korean Maples that the deer chewed down to nothing but a trunk. I thought they were dead, but now I have multiple shoots coming up from the base, several are over 2' tall. Should I clip those off and just keep the biggest? Also, should I cut down the main trunk that is dead? Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Cool garden, you're giving me more ideas! Thanks.
Don’t cut anything right now let it do what it wants to do for 1-2 years before to decide what you want to do.
@@MapleNutz Thanks!
What about buying a few patio umbrellas to use during hottest months for your trees?
Way too windy here. I tied that already. One umbrella ended up inside my neighbor’s pool lol
Omg…counter says 990 subs. Start the countdown!
🤣🤣🤣
Congratulations you made it to 1000
Yes! Thank you so much. I’m so happy right now. 🎉🥳🎈🎊🎁🍾🪅
Bringing the heat! #maplenutz
Shishigashira for $106 from home depot??? 😲 Those gotta be sold out by now.
#Maplenutz
They lasted about a week or two. That’s it. It’s been done. Lol
can you tell me what those poles are and where you got them for your shade canopy
I don’t want to because I seriously don’t recommend them. They are hallowed aluminum poles and they suck really hard bro.
#Maplenutz my kamagata gets like that every year around this time
Thanks for the information. Much needed 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
What is that tree name at 8:25 and where can I buy one please
Mikawa Yatsubusa and I got it from Cline’s Nursery in Shelby NC. Check them out clinesnursery.com/japanese-maples/?gclid=CjwKCAjwq4imBhBQEiwA9Nx1Bg4b7asOv1Gmk26lCc8tfWx5sim97qfMVMAUSZSLAlzTDkSlF2nwnRoCHg4QAvD_BwE
Maples are my favorite species, unfortunately I live in zone 10 and the only way to keep the very few examples I have is inside under 14K lights. Every now and then I take them out from 8:00 to 10:00, any time after that the heat and humidity would affect the leaves.
That sucks bro. I’m sorry.
I feel your pain!
my emperor 1 is getting sun all day and some of the leaves are crispy 😮
Some of my part shade are getting their leave a little damage. We will see how baton Rouge does in full sun 😅 good luck my friend with your trees
Thanks for the input, much needed information. What zone are u in?
@@MapleNutz I'm in zone 9b we are on the 100s righ now
@@baldoalaniz8664 daaamn bro. I feel you man. Must be hard being there right now.
@@MapleNutz
Yes and it's my first time fixing the garden.... there was no plants when I bought the house 2 years ago. But is hard too have nice plants to take this heat lol
#MapleNutz🍁🥜
If you don't like the Shirazz I will take it my friend😂
I hate that damn thing 😂 . I did a massive pruning this season. We’ll see if it does better this year.
#MapleNutz I have Sharazz and Geisha gone wild and I love them both. Lol
I like them, It’s just that I like a lot of JMs a lot more than them. Lol
Hi. It would be helpful if you let us know your location and month of the year. Thanks.
At 3:20 I said that im in zone 8A North Carolina, also if you check the time I uploaded the video, you will see the time of the year which is August 2023. Thanks for watching my friend 🙏🏻
I can’t believe you don’t like geisha like that 😔.. yeah the summer really puts our babies on the hot spot 😂 sorry bad joke
I like them, It’s just that I like a lot of JMs a lot more than them. Lol
