    Having a hell of a time w the grommets, ended up warming them slightly w a heat gun and they went in a LOT easier.

    • @thekehmcrew
      @thekehmcrew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have the exact link since I purchased these quite awhile back but I know I got them off eBay! I just searched for “Dodge Dakota transfer case linkage” and “Dodge Dakota transfer case linkage rubber grommets”
      Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

  • @sawyer4981
    @sawyer4981 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You aren't kidding about those grommets! I thought this would be a 10 min job, but I'm going to have to try again later. I was stuck in 4wd, so I just manually shifted the transfer case out of 4wd to get me on my way for now. 😂

    • @thekehmcrew
      @thekehmcrew  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      someone else said they used some oil / wd-40 to lube them up a bit before trying to squeeze them in place lol.. it was alot tougher than I thought ! Thanks for watching!

    I've got a 2000 Durango R/T with the 5.9 engine. This video was exactly what i needed as I broke the linkage or grommets driving it today. However, when I look for the parts on the web using the part number you provided in another comment, the rubber grommets do not come with the connecting rod, I have to buy them separately. Thank you for making this video.

    • @thekehmcrew

      The manufacture part number is: 52105389AA
      This is the link I bought the part from: www.ebay.com/itm/401014192199
      You’ll need to buy the rubber bushings / gromets separately.. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

  • @dzerres
    @dzerres ปีที่แล้ว

    That is my exact problem but I'll see if the dealer's cost is worth it before I "do it myself". I was wondering why I was still able to drive it with a "broken" transfer case. It was only the linkage. BTW, mine is a year 2000 model with over 200,000 miles and this is only the second thing that ever went wrong with it. The other was I needed a new starter. That's it for 200k miles - still the original clutch and the original transmission, oil pump, fuel pump, header gasket, etc. Keep your truck if you can - no car payments for 20 years! Thank you.

    Many people worry. If your truck is in 2 wheel drive and your linkage falls off you are fine you can still drive the truck. You just can’t shift it into 4 wheel without the linkage. The linkage connects the lever in the cab to the rod to the transfer case

    I had my linkage pop off my shifter putting it into 4 when I suck into a snow drift nd it ended up in neutral. 10 miles into the mountains I had to hook the linkage back up from inside the truck by pulling the cover off by the sifter... Talk about a crappy fix!

    What year truck is this? Linkage fell out of 2000 durango when I shifted into 4 lock and it's still in 4 lock... got the grommets today... linkage was in driveway right where I shifted it... thinking this easy but there's some shit online about locating pin and using a needle or small pin to line it up... but I'm thinking since light on dash says 4 lock, I shoukd just be able to put grommets in and then linkage??? Not mush of a mechanic here to be honest... unless you bring me a chainsaw or other small engine stuff thst is lol

    Hey, thanks for the video. I still have mine installed however the linkage fell out. What i did see is that there are two pins that slip over that groove on both ends. Don't recall the name. Maybe hair pin? Not cotter pins but the squiggly ones. Ha ha. Anyway, they keep the linkage from falling out. Hope this helps. Stay safe!

    My bro has an 02 Dakota 4x4. 4 door 5spd manual 4.7 v8, His has electronic switch to control 4x4. But my opinion is the floor shifter is better. No electronics.

      Seems to be a common issue on these trucks. It’s an easy fix, just annoying. I saw someone made a permanent fix for this problem. I liked it below. They designed their own bracket with bolts instead of the bushing. Maybe it could work for the Dakota as well. If mine ever falls out again I’ll look into making something like this!
