As stupid as that play looked , it wasn't as bad as everyone makes it to be , that season 0 people intercepted the ball from the 1 yard , lynch that year also struggled at 1 yard situations mostly on 3rd and 4th down. The play call was good , it was just a really good defensive play by Butler. Not to mention everyone was expecting lynch to get the ball so they gambled and it just didn't work out.

Not really. Most of these weren't awful because the opponent did something good they were one side doing something dumb (with a few just regular mess ups that were really funny).
Fun fact on #7: That would have been Jackson's first career TD.

Holy shit the Superbowl play wasn't a bad play on the hawks, it was an amazing play on Malcolm Butler. These plays are stupid plays where someone fumbled or fucked up, Superbowl is nowhere near that.

I have seen and played a lot of football and the Colts fake punt is hands down the worst play I have ever seen at any, ANY, level of the sport of football. It was the worst play before the ball even was snapped, the worst formation I have ever seen, and then they actually ran a play from there. The dude just snapped it directly under the center with no blockers and 3 defensive players less than a yard from him hahahaha I couldn't believe what I had seen. Just amazed so many coaches let that make it to the field and no one argued against it. Someone had to be fired for that play.
The goal was to confuse the D, have 10 guys run over to cover the mess of guys to the side, leaving one guy in front of the center. Then it's easy for the blocker to wall off the defender off to one side while the runner taking the snap runs behind him. 3 guys covered the center, so they were supposed to take the 5 yard delay of game penalty. It wouldn't have been the worst play ever if the ball hadn't been snapped, it would have just been a 5 yard penalty on a failed attempt at trickery.

The guy was was snapping the ball was only in bc the guy they practiced it w got injured so he wasn't sure what to do. It was all a big mis communication they shouldn't have tried a cheap play like that against the pats the pats prob designed the play themselves
I've seen a worse play. 7th grade modified football the center snaps it over the qbs head and it goes right to our coach bc at that level they are on the field with us. he picked it up and took a knee lmao. we were losing at least 50 to 0 so it didn't even matter

It WAS a play, a passing play instead of a running play. Still a play though. But it wasn't stupid imo, Lynch did NOT have a good record on first and goal during the season. The Seahawks scored a lot more with passing plays on first and goal compared to running it on first and goal. It was more risky, but it was the higher percentage play... Patriots got lucky with the interception.
I actually thought it was a brilliant idea to throw at the moment. You'd expect that the pats were expecting a run, so you throw it short. They just happened to make a play on it, but it could've easily been a TD. Butler had to squeeze in for it and borderline pull pass interference to get it.
To be fair if people actually watched Seahawks before bandwagoning after they won the Super Bowl the Seahawks ALWAYS ran audibles at the 1 yard line. Since everyone always had to blitz the Seahawks because Lynch was so good at getting the few yards the Seahawks would just call a pass and throw it out to Lockett or Kearse since they're were always open. If he had made the pass everyone would've said it was genius but since it got picked people act like it was a dumb move

For fuck sake, the Super Bowl play wasn't a bad play call, if had good thought behind it. Defense expecting a run, try's to fool them with a pass and Malcom Butler read the play perfectly. Wasn't a dumb play, it was just a lucky strike on the defense

Still you have RB and a QB/RB who is mobile enough to buy time - with one TO left. Other options were available for pass attempts.
It was a bad call. Hell if you're going to pass the ball, bring in a power lineup and play action. If you show pass Belichick can now force you do what he wants you to do anyways. NE knew exactly what he was doing there.

That Colts play is absolutely legendary.
As a Luck era Colts fan, I was lucky enough to catch this moment live and it was it didn't disappoint. I got more entertainment value from that single play than I did from all of the very limited success the team saw for the entire rest of the season. The best part is after the play when the camera pans in on Chuck Pagano's clueless face and his look is just like "ohh... so that just happened... hmm.. I pictured it going so differently in my head"
Pagano was an absolute legend as the HC. He has such a hapless, clueless, confused expression all the time and, while they tell you not to judge a book by its cover or person by how they look, Pagano's facial expressions were pretty much always consistent with the horrors unfolding on the field. Still, out of all the horrible coaching and horrible execution, that play stands above the rest. Truly an instant classic. Ahhh... good times, good times
"Leon Lett! Nooo! Not Leon Lett." I laughed out loud because I remember that game, as well as Lett's fumble in the Super Bowl. Gave me a belly laugh as a kid, and does the same now.

Um yeah like there was a huge fake punt fail for redskins vs giants in the past decade.
The punt that wasnt punted out of bounds by giants vs Eagles in 2010. Almost any play in the super bowl micked as stupor bowl colts vs cowboys.

They were planning to punt out of bounds, but the snap was high and the punter had to just get rid of it to avoid having it blocked.

Kosta Thomas debatable, Lynch was definitely the best running back when it came to goal line performance, and he was an outstanding rusher, in the top 3 arguably. But the stats don't lie. That season, DeMarco Murray had 500 more rushing yards, tied with Lynch for TDs, averaged 4.7 per attempt while Lynch did not even make top 10, averaged 30+ more yards a game than Lynch, and had roughly 500 more yards from scrimmage than Lynch. Murray was the best running back of that season because, as you can see, he was number 1 in all categories for a RB except for the tie in rushing TDs

I'm a Steelers fan, but let me explain the Colts fake punt.
What was supposed to happen was to throw off the Patriots special teams with the 9 guys lined up to the right, and then have a hard count and not snap the ball and draw them offsides to pick up the first, and if that doesn't work, just cut your losses, take the delay of game and go for a normal punt.
But what happened, the guy snapping, and the guy receiving were backups because the starters were hurt earlier in the half, and didn't get any of the reps in practice and had to be coached up right before the play happened, and misunderstood.
So in theory it's a foolproof play, but the people running it had 0 clue what was supposed to happen.
Love it, I forgot about some of these plays. Sometimes I used to wonder if their helmet was on too tight.....idiot plays. I love watching the coach stare at their player (s) that did something dumb.

In Mark Sanchez's defense, it was big Vince Wilfork that threw the Jets linemen into Sanchez, its one of his favorite tricks and the retired veteran had been doing it for years with the patriots. Incredibly talented big man #75
