I moved to Sheppey from the London in 2008. I love living in Warden Bay. I have a house within a few steps of the sea. Panoramic views, amazing sunrises, fresh air, fossil hunting, lovely countryside and wildlife particularly birds. The Island has a fantastic pioneering history of aviation and naval history.
I vist and stay in Sheerness probably 8 times a year. I love it! It's what you make of things at the end of the day 😊 I'm not a fussy person and am easily content.
So glad to see that you have returned to Sheppey and seen some of the areas the locals know. You should return to the Leas at Minster in summer when there's a bit of sunshine and you can walk along the prom and up on to the cliffs. There's some pretty good views from there - and if you go there at low tide, it's amazing how far the sea goes out. It's also quite good for seeing wildlife if you're interested in that.
Lol I’ll never forget visiting Leysdown with my ex and her parents (they’re French). Met a local who blatantly checked us out and then let out a resounding “Kreeist”. Best part of the trip and sums up the whole experience.
People will always have bad things to say about anywhere, but we had a caravan on the isle if sheppy and we loved it. We also loved going to Leysdown and always used to have a bite to eat in our favourite cafe there. Its not the most amazing place but we had some great times there. It's just a very down to earth place and won't suit everyone especially posher types 😂 Also Jamie Borthwick who plays Jay in EastEnders family had a caravan in leysdown when we used to go and used to see him out and about. Interesting fact 🤣🤣🤣
You should have gone round to Rio's in Sheerness High Street, just round the corner from Tesco's! ....popular cafe with nice coffee and good grub! I know a few people who live on the Island...it's not the Riviera over there for sure, but it's good for a day out in the summer with the kids! x J x
At one time you could walk all the way to to Garrison Point which was an old Napoleonic Fort - re-used in the World Wars . It was great to have access to a real Fort and sit on the dock of the bay and watch ships come in and out .
I live on the island and I think it's a right shithole, but even worse are some of the people, especially some of the residents of Sheerness, some if them would look more at home in Deliverence, in fact if you listen carefully you can almost hear the dueling banjos and the cry of "Squeal piggy squeal". The best thing about Sheppey is the road off of it.
HELL HOLE!!!!!!!!! How rude. Did you actually drive through Sheerness? Which day of the week did you visit? Nowhere looks very appealing in February. Minster is a very nice area with lots of very beautiful homes. Even Faversham looks bleak in the rain in February. I guess you either love it or hate it but it is far from a hell hole.
We visited on a Saturday and yes we did drive through Sheerness. We agree Minster is a lovely place. Remember it’s not us that called it a hell hole, we went to prove it isn’t 😊
Sheppey has some great history ,Nelson and lady Hamilton lived there, the Wright brothers flew there, first British aircraft factory was on Sheppey . Then we have the Richard Mongomery ship, WW2 linked. Its a great place if you hate staring out at other tower blocks. Londoners love it.
An interesting video, but got to admit it didn't look too bad. Seen and been to worst places. Looking forward to watching more of your adventures. Stay safe and well
I lived there for a while in the 80s. If you know where to go, it's a very interesting place, e.g. Harty or Queenborough, but if you just listen to swampies from the council caves, you won't be told about them.
That massive swampy field looks. . . Nice? Also. . . You could have probably jumped that stream where the little bridge was at! I know I would've attempted it. Got to test the temperature of the water somehow, right?
It’s one of those “looks nice from a distance but wouldn’t want to be stood on it” kind of moments. We can tell you the water is cold, I mean it froze a shoe off a man!
You missed so many ww2 gems!! I live in Maidstone and would happily show you a sneaky way into the sea front forts and a few other hidden ww2 gems around the island!
Also little fact the gypsy tart was actually created by a women on the isle of Sheppey accidentally one day she see some children playing ball outside she went to her kitchen cupboards to see what she had to make them a cake all she had was well what the ingredients are for the gypsy tart so she made this tart and the rest is history :-) your welcome lol 😝
I spent my teens on the Isle of Grain, a short swim and mud-wade across the Thames Estuary from Sheppey. I used to envy people living in Sheerness, I can tell you! Go on, if you want a challenge to do a video on the shittest Kent coastal location, take yourselves to the Isle of Grain. I guarantee the tits will be bored clean off you in minutes.
@@no_soy_rubio Yeah to be fair at least the tunnels and Grain Tower don't have the world's most annoying security like the Sheerness bastions and Garrison Point Fort
Oh and also that old ferry bridge my good friends dad us worked on that bridge most his life he was actually working the day you filmed as I noticed his car parked up lol 😂
It isn't all hell hole as you are not far from the sea if you live there as I know it is in the River Thames but to me it is on the sea if you don't like it move off the island
Sheppey is a nice place to live, with decent clean living honest English folk on the island.Unlike most of the country it’s language of communication still remains English. There are lovely Churches on the island that have historic Architecture. As for the unexploded Ship HMS Montgomery, divers go down periodically every 6 months to check on the Explosives on board. The salt water keeps it safer in place than trying to move and disturb it. Sheppey welcomes those who welcome it.
As a visitor to friends in Bradford. I nearly got thrown out of a night club by the bouncer, because I got lost coming out the bathroom, they put a stamp on your hand on entry, I showed the bouncer the stamp he said" nah it doesn't matter you gotta go you crept in the door without paying." Manageress came by and swerved the bouncer off. So my memory of Bradford is not great!🙄

My dads half brothers parents owned the island of sheppey quite a long time ago, and was most likely sold for cheap. My half uncles dad did run in with some sort of gang (I’m not too sure, though I’ve heard this story THOUSANDS of times while my dad was drunk) and they basically just robbed the jewellery stores. While this was happening, my half uncles dad was the Judo Champion of England. But then his dad (my half uncles) was killed with horse steroids, because everyone was just so sick of him and the other men stealing from them. PLEASE NOTE!! I don’t have contact with my half uncle whatsoever, because of a family feud that’s gone on for decades, and i haven’t heard his side of the story, just my fathers. I hope someone finds this interesting 😅
Sheppey (or Fraggle Rock as we call it here in Kent) really IS that bad. It is a vandalism hit and desolate wasteland whose inhabitants have knuckles that drag nearer to the ground than your average UK citizen.
