    Nice product. 2 things: can wobble a bit when climbing, the straps for under the saddle will probably wear over time. (Most similar products have the same issue. I would like to see a more secure slide in connector that stabilizes the bag more when really throwing the bike around)

  • @markstuart58

    If you cross the straps over (left clipped into right, right clipped into left) you can get the bag smaller and rid yourself of what can only be described as wings.
    Besides that it's a great bag, I'm happy with mine.

    Great review, thanks Russ. I bought one based on what I saw in your review. It's a great seat bag and its components really are top grade. Should last for many, many years to come, and has a 5-year warranty.

    Use some extra Bungee cords to hold the bag more stable. Not the slightest bit of wobble. Does the trick.

    Russ, does it have any pockets besides the big/main one? Somewhere to put a joint or a wallet? Looks like the bungees across the top could be used for something slim if not.

    For road touring (paved and gravel) would you prefer traditional panniers, or the rackless bags setups? I've used panniers many times but never tried any of the rackless systems.

    • @PathLessPedaledTV
      @PathLessPedaledTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Medium Rick Depends on the purpose of the trip. Fast, light and spartan I'd consider rackless. If we're going to be leisurely, go fishing, take photos, then panniers.

      The greatest advantage of frame bags is keeping all the weight centered with the bike. They take the stress off your joints and upper body by containing the weight within your hips and shoulders. You will notice the added stability most while out of the saddle on climbs, in addition to mounting and dismounting. By minimizing your effort to stabilize the bike, you're able to reserve your stamina and endurance while keeping your mind clear of one more thing you'd have to worry about.
      Enjoy the adventure.

    Never understood how to pack these things for a long ride. I know about putting the heavier items in first then leaving the lighter things at the top but since there are no separated compartments or anything, you just straight up shove in the heavier stuff first then move slowly on to the lighter stuff and needing to empty the entire contents of your bag just to get to the bottom just seems like a bit of an inconvenience for me.
    I personally have some Carradice saddlebags which can have seperate compartments/pockets for smaller things on the side of the bag so I dont always need to go into the main compartment. Because the bag is rectangular shaped its also easier to pack everything in neatly and you can prioritise what youre packing regardless of how heavy the item are. I tend to keep the small pockets for things like my multitool, spare innertubes, batteries, mobile phone, camera or sweets/gels/snacks etc etc
    However I do understand that the bag sitting the way it does when its attached to the bike creates more drag but I doubt it makes a whole lot of difference when i average around 15-18mph anyway. Some folks might be more pedantic about the whole 'being aerodynamic' thing than i am. I'll get to where im trying to get to when i get there.

    • @jakehammond12345
      @jakehammond12345 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      a couple of us used them last year. This year im going to a rack with a dry bag on top. These work OK but are a pain to get things out of at the end of the day or pack at the start of the day. And yes they wobble and sag. Theres no way to avoid that. That said I rode 1000k and these are the most aero and lightweight solution.

    • @Rose.Of.Hizaki

      I guess for touring it kinda makes sense as you could probably stuff it with clothes and other non mission critical things to make it a non issue. I haven't toured before but I have done 120miles in one night although it wasnt a sportiff or a race of any sorts. a carradice saddlebag is just more convenient for short trips like mine where we're not going to be stopping for very long or at least not until we reach our destination
