David wrote this Psalm for he understood what it was to shepherd sheep and God related it to how He leads His people. In this time period David was being pursued by Saul for years. VERSE 5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows: - For the sheep, David would spread down a large leather blanket (the table) when the grass was scarce. The Oil was in fact for their scratched faces, to heal their skin. The Table and the Oil was for us to see God’s hospitality, provision and protection as well as His establishment of the king that God chose while rendering powerless any opposition to His will. It is a humbling picture of God taking care of us. It points to Him not on how valuable we are... No. It is about Him leading us and not about sitting at His table. The sheep are ALREADY WITH the shepherd, being guided in righteousness, provision, protection and being corrected by His word 2 Tim 3:16. My cup overflows: expands the idea of Lacking Nothing, to have more than enough. Psalm 23, IS NOT about the enemy being at your table, what verse is that in Psalm 23? It is only talking about The Good Shepherd and His needy sheep, but towards David. It is humbling and an imagery of our Good, Faithful, Leading, Protecting, Tender, Responsible, Righteous and Helping Shepherd/Father. The Table also symbols being SET APART from our enemies, so how can the devil sit at your table? And what other table is brought up? David was being pursued by Saul and God reassured David that He is his protector and his Good Shepherd. David understood this because he was a shepherded. God communicated to Him as he was going though trouble of being hunted by Saul. Speaker Louie Giglio...You taught Wrong. This is OUT OF CONTEXT. "For the time is coming when people will not endure sound (correct/healthy) teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions," 2 Timothy 4:3. “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
