    Knock Off is such an underrated movie... I've watched it in 1998 when I was 13 years old, and I still love it today!
    It's a great mix of action comedy and martial arts.

    It was a very different JCVD film, for sure. With the legendary Sammo Hung as a fight coreographer it makes it feel closer to Jackie Chan films. But Jean Claude Van Damme and Rob Scheneider had a really good chemistry and it also has some really cool action scenes. It may not be one of JCVD's best movies but it sure is a real fun to watch movie. Excellent video, as always Viking Samurai, keep punching!!

    Rob Schneider is always fun sidekick. Van Damme clearly had a good time with him and so did Stallone in Judge Dredd. But, this movie still had some nice fighting scenes and great choreography, although the story was beyond ridiculous. Still, be aware when you buy cheap jeans. They may cause sudden death (pun intended)

    Knock was so entertaining when I was a kid. It didn’t hold up that well but still a great time of my youth. I tell you one that people hate on but I loved and still love Street Fighter. I love him as Guile. My knock off story was when I was a kid Oakley’s were all the rage. I found some for $20 dollars and thought they were so cool until all my friends told me they were fake because the Oakley wasn’t raised. I actually loved Legionnaire I think it is so underrated. I feel Jean Claude did some of his best acting in that movie. I know it wasn’t what we were use to but it is such a great movie.

    Knock Off, like Double Team, was kind of a guilty pleasure for me. After buying Double Team on VHS, I was eagerly awaiting to buy Knock Off on VHS, and I still own it. Now that you mention JCVD was high on coke at the time, it makes sense since I always felt he was kind of "goofy" and playfull in Knock Off. Anyway, the fight scenes at the dock in the end was entertaining. I still believe JCVD could utilize his full potential working with directors from Hong Kong and have some goof fight choreography that would fit his style. I'm thinking like Corey Yuen did with JCVD in No Retreat, No Surrender. Till this day, I still believe the best fight choreography JCVD has had was all his fight scenes in No Retreat, No Surrender as they weren't your typical one punch/one kick JCVD trademark but had a longer sequence. Would love to have seen JCVD in some longer uncut fight choreography kind of like Loren Avedon, Benny the Jet, Keith Vitali etc.

    • @VikingSamurai
      @VikingSamurai  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Van Damme was extremely impressive in No Retreat No Surrender. I definitely enjoyed those longer takes on the fight sequences.

    • @Philroq7
      @Philroq7 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VikingSamurai I absolutely agree. JCVD was a beast in those fight scenes and he did great with the choreography he was given in those longer fight sequences. One could only imagine how JCVD would have evolved had he worked more with Hong Kong style fight choreography. I look at Westernes like Keith Vitali and Loren Avedon in No Retreat No Surrender 3, I just saw that recently and they look amazing in their fight scenes.

    • @poolboyinla

    Hate to say it, but that was a stunt double for most of that fight scene in the parking garage 6:45. Yes this broke my heart also, Van Damme in the 80s would never use a double for a scene like this one no way.

    • @HexenStar
      @HexenStar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also suspected that all the time. The dude doing the exaggerated
      taekwondo kick - didn't even look like Van Damme. It was a hard pill

Good chemistry with the JCVD and Schneider, cool HK locations and just zany and ridiculous which makes it better. When I first saw Knock Off back in the day, I didn't know what to think of it. The style was so much different than any other Van Damme film, and the tone was different too. I wasn't used to a Van Damme film with comic relief. But I still enjoyed it. And on a side note, I'm feeling crazy deja vu right now, like I've left this exact comment before. When you mentioned lethal weapon 4 I immediately got chills for 2 reasons.
    1. Jet li, the first time I ever seen the guy and I was blown away.
    2. The tequila scene where the Chinese dad and murtaugh shared tequila and murtaugh gave him his watch.
    That scene was so intense, the struggle of the Chinese man fleeing with his family. He was finally able to sit down and relax somewhat.
    That scene actually defined a part of me as that was how adults were supposed to act and I wanted to be like that. (I Failed trying but got there at the end)
    About knock off, it's still a shame JC didn't put more effort in comedy or drama because he's really good at it.
    It shows in this movie that he has comedy skills and JCVD proofed he's a great drama actor.

    • @VikingSamurai
      @VikingSamurai  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jet Li was really something back then. Van Damme's new movie with Netflix is an action comedy from a French Director, I have high hopes. His straight to video movies with French Directors (JCVD and The Bouncer were both phenomenal, especially compared to his other straight to video efforts).

I was a fan of Tsui Hark from all his movies with Jet Li but wasn't a big fan of Double Team so I wasn't sure if it was going to be good. But as soon as the movie got going with the rickshaw race i knew it was going to be special. The in-the-shoe shot got me laughing out loud (no one heard me).. and as the movie went i was constantly laughing with amazement at its ridiculous but intricate story and it's over the top visuals and action sequences. Nice insight info. With Vandammes cocaine addiction at the time this explains why his acting is so All Over the Place. Knock_Off is like you say So Bad that its Good. Its not one of favs from Vandamme, but its a fun watch every few years, and yeah Tsui Hart is much like the George Lucas of HK, mannnn his ideas and style is outlandish. Though its a damn shame Leigonaire did not get theatre release, I found that to be one of Vandammes better stuff of the late 90s behind Maximum Risk, another underrated one was In Hell (done by Ringo Lam) but by then its was straight to video era. I really disliked Double Team (which I saw a day or two before Knock Off) and I've never been a Rob Scheider fan but Knock Off was a pleasant surprise. It's definitely not a typical Van Damme movie...not even a typical action movie. It was a little weird and funny.

    To me it's a better version of the movie RED NOTICE (with Gal Gadot, Rock and Ryan Reynolds) that movie has twists in it but come across as cheesy. with KNOCK OFF the twists are natural and rewarding to figure out. Rob Schneider in this movie is great and the chemistry with Lela Rochon is fantastic. Van Damme is great in this and his action scenes are very creative and his strikes have power in them. 9/10 movie

    At the moment I just added this movie to my action films collection, which I hope I can have all JCVD movies cuz he is my favorite actor 😁. But anyways I think this movie like a non stop night in a party, you know one moment your talking to your buddies, then drinking, some dancing and suddenly you just feel dizzy and wanna go sleep at 12pm. So that's why I found this movie so unique among JCVD films, it's pretty fun, some bad moments ( the worst are the russian villains, they feel a little out of place in some parts) I don't like giving ratings, so I'm just gonna say that if entertainment entertains you, it has done it's job ( or something like that, I'm half drunked 😂)

    "Knock Off" its a really crazy movie. I never forget wen this movie came from Brazil in septemper 1998 and i saw in a very old theather ( i have only sixteen on the time). But after watch this flick i started to question JCDV choices about movies quality. From this time his name its involved on serious problems such cocaine habit and violence acusations. About this movie quality i like to think to director Tsui Hark tried made a comedy with style ( like Jackie Chan) but the belgian actor definitely not buy this idea. But eveen this days you cant appreciate some action scenes on "Knock Off" but unfortunately the figths scenes its very disappointing. I never understood the final shodow against Russian mafia guys wen Van Damme figths with the sick man (WTF?). The movie floops on box office like "Universal Soldier" and "Legionnaire" ( despite that this is very good movie).

    I thought the whole idea of the movie taking place during Hong Kongs handover back to China fascinating and feel that would have been the much better backstory to focus on than the silly CIA twist. I always thought Rob Schneider played best against a action hero like Stallone or Van Damme provided his character was a little more reined in than he was in Judge Dredd.

    • @HexenStar
      @HexenStar 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say Street Fighter got smashed by straying too far from the
      arcade game, especially action-wise. Also, making a complete
      mockery of many of the game's characters didn't help either.
      Too many characters who talk a lot of talk, yet when the time
      comes to fight - they just don't.
      MK would not only abstain from such nonsense, but also the SF
      cast was predominantly non-martial artists, resulting in a poor and unremarkable action scenes. While MK was 2/3 packed with people
      who knew exactly what they were doing. Martial arts and otherwise.
      The greatest mystery of SF, however, is the connection of the
      masterful Benny Urquidez to that flop-buster.
