- While on a winning streak, beastie pilot Sonnie refuses to be defeated. As she fights inside the arena and in her own life, her opponents belittle her as a girl out for vengeance. They don’t realize that Sonnie has a secret that gives her an edge.

It's interesting, watching the episode again, the twist is hinted earlier because Simon doesn't act or control his beast like Sonnie does.
Beside that, there are hints like Wes pressing the skull icon to "activate" her and the A-link turning red once it's fully loaded.

Just FYI _Sonnie's Edge_ (this episode) was based on a Peter F. Hamilton short story of the same name in the book _A Second Chance at Eden_ .
A sequel named _Sonnie's Union_ was written later for the _Made to Order: Robots and Revolution_ anthology (yet to be picked up by LDR).
Might wanna check those out if this episode is up your alley. If the author's other work gets enough attention we might see more adaptations.
EDIT: Seems some other episodes (like _Beyond the Aquila Rift_ originally written by Alastair Reynolds) also have writers with a good amount of other works that haven't been adapted yet.

@@joemck74 I've been digging into old sci-fi collections recently to get more sources of inspiration for some stuff of my own that I'm writing and developing.
Aside from the directly referenced stuff it's fun to be able to notice more indirect inspirations in works as well.
That way you can find authors that have a 'shtick' that you consistently like.
Genres feel too broad to guarantee much by themselves these days.
I feel like there're still untapped gold mines in stuff like written short stories that are ripe for adaptation.

It's also a prequel story to his epic Night's Dawn trilogy, which can be described as Game of Thrones times The Expanse. It's basically like a story of a tavern brawl in Westeros a couple of hundred years before Game of Thrones.
I really hope this will become a series or at least a movie. Is there a link to the original?

the makers of this episode *KNEW* the anatomy of a good thriller with layers upon layers of twists
this episode was what got me watching the rest of the series, im so glad they surprised me right off the bat cuz i wouldnt have stuck around otherwise
In my opinion being an anthology series is LDR's biggest strength but also it's greatest weakness. Some LDR episodes, like this one have such an amazing premise that I WANT to see more of it. But we most likely never will for most of them. And I find that infuriatingly annoying.
