    Thank you for improvising Dr. Gupta. Like everyone else, I watch these videos to find comfort. The rubberband analogy was an excellent idea. I get so depressed and sad thinking I am going to drop dead when I feel these painful skipped beats. They will ruin my entire day. they've been ruining each and every day for several years now. My heart goes out to all of you (no pun intended). It's no way to live. Let me just say that Dr. Gupta mentions that making life changes will improve this condition. Appreciate life. Think about all the wonderful things we are grateful for. Think positive, treat your body with care. Avoid junk food. Drink water. Go for walks. Live in the present moment as much as possible. Do not dwell on the past and do not worry about the future. My palpitations have decreased considerably but controlling my mind has been the hardest thing I've ever done. We have to quit our stinking thinking! Bless you all.

    Dr, thank you for your awesome videos. I have had ectopic heart beats and tachycardia for over 20 years. I have also been diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder. My ectopics usually happen in clusters. I may go months without feeling any and then out of the blue, a few a day,every day for months. The ectopics don't always feel the same nor do they stay in the one area. I feel skips, flutters, thumps, pinch and sometimes like someone has reached in to my chest and squeezed my heart for a second. (often feel pressure and gasp for air. Like i just got a shock)
    All my visits to the cardiologists over the years has shown my heart to healthy. I am 42 and my last cardiologist said I have the heart of a 20 year old. Last eco they picked up a very "faint" murmur but valves, heart muscle and electrical activity all normal. Yes, my heart is throwing in extra beats but to this day, no one has told me why.
    My blood work was all fine. Thyroid, magnesium, potassium, sugar etc all fine. I don't drink alcohol, I never smoked, I have never tried any recreational drugs, I don't drink tea or coffee or caffeinated drinks and take no stimulants what so ever.
    I cannot deal with this anymore. Suffering ectopics (which causes my anxiety) has gotten me fired from jobs, caused agoraphobia at times, basically the quality of my life is crap. I really cannot go on like this.
    Thank you for reading.

      That sucks so much...
      Im in the same boat, my heart has been fluttering all afternoon now and i cant calm down and im feel tired and depressed! I can't seem.to believe its harmless..
      I also have generalized anxiety and im on antidepressants for it. I was able to record some episodes and turns out i have extra systols and tachy ( i cant remember the exact kind but not dangerous one). It is soooo annoying and it feels like.someone is squeezing my chest or my oesophagus! The more i feel them, the more.anxious i get so it gets worst of course!
      I am studying on the nervous system from the work of Irene Lyon, and i believe that might be the source of the issue. Traumas and different factors that makes the autonomic nervous system disregulated, i think that could explain why its affecting the heart and the digestion than seem to be linked.together!

      @@tyw3231 Great. Since having my thyroid removed due to cancer, my ectopic calmed down, a lot. So to did my tachycardia. Ectopic beats rarely happen for me now. 2 weeks ago, Inhad an episode where my heart felt like is was about to deflate and stopping and starting......all vitals and breathing were fine. I also felt a small pinch or squeeze. last less than a minute. It scared me. Went to the hospital, all my blood were fine as was my ECG. Doing okay thanks for asking.

I’ve been going to doctors since just before the pandemic with this getting increasingly worse and all of them pretty much just saying that it is ectopic beats, PVC, PAC, and nothing to be done. And no one seems to understand why it hurts, at least now I have some idea what’s going on that multiple cardiologist at the US VA medical centers don’t seem to be able to care enough to figure out

    I was diagnosed with PVCS about four years ago and was told they were harmless. The problem I have is that I can go a few weeks without having or noticing any PVCS. When I do start having (one about every 2 minutes for about 16 minutes) them I immediately think something is wrong with my heart. This video helped me understand why it takes so long for my heart to return back to the first "drummer" and why the PVCS hurt sometimes. What an amazing Dr. He takes his personal time to explain to us in laymen terms what is happening to our hearts. Makes me want to do something nice for some I don't know. Namista

      Hello, this is a long shot as your comment is 3 years old, but I gotta ask. Does "taking your breath away" mean that when you feel the "pre-matural" palpitation, you feel it in your throat (under adam's apple, maybe even more, basically at the end of your neck) and it somewhat "blocks" the air you're inhaling? Because that's what happens to me exactly, sometimes it happens even if I breathe out, I just want to know since it's been affecting me for many years already and I feel "better" if I can match my symptoms with someone else haha... thank you!

    Thank you for this. As an afib/atrial tachy sufferer, I also get a lot of ectopics, and sometimes I get a hard, pinching feeling with the ectopics that almost knock the wind out of me, the pain can be so sharp. This is a great explanation for what happens. My EP has described it as a "greater volume of blood leaving the heart, and that's why it hurts sometimes", but this is much more specific.

      This happens when I’m doing something active and my heart rate is between 100-120bpm. My body would feel like a got a big rush and my heart “flopped” and i feel a big thud and my heart races for seconds. Sometimes this thud throws me off and I ignore it but it’s difficult on some days to ignore when it keeps happening for 10-15 minutes and I have to completely stop what I’m doing. I’ve learned to keep calm and know my heart is a strong muscle and that my heart is different than others and that I will be just fine. Eventually goes away. I have another stress echo and ecg with my cardiologist as mine gets worse during exercise. I’ve had this checked before , same tests, blood tests normal and I don’t lack in anything except in getting older (I’m 34, had PVCs since I was a kid but got worse at 32, barely got it in my 20s). If they say its benign once again, I’m going to pursue to get a second opinion as I was initially diagnosed with WPW in 2008 but doctors said now I don’t think I have it but showed up in ecg once I’m 2008 during an ER visit. These beats, many people are so fortunate to have a normal heart rhythm. People are out there during drugs, severely overweight and drinking away with all sort of stimulants but yet heart rhythm stays normal. I don’t say that to discriminate.. it’s just that why in the world does my heart act this way. Surely, when are problems, there are always an explanation. Just science and human body are so complex that we may never know what our bodies fully documented on why these occur.

    • @rooksilva21
      @rooksilva21 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes I totally feel the same way. It is so weird. Like sometimes I'll just feel it flop and sometimes it'll make me like twitch or jolt. Sometimes it hurts a little but mainly it is just extremely uncomfortable smh. This is so crazy to go thru.

    OMG I can't believe how much this helped me. I have p.v.c.s they will go away for years and then come back. usually with my period. However last night I was laying down and was getting them constantly they wouldn't stop. I was scared I'd go into vfib . So I got up and moved around. They were gone immediately. I never understood why my p.v.c.s would not go away until I moved around. I get it now. Wow that video really helped a lot.

    • @CarlScogland
      @CarlScogland 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The fear of going into Vfib is what makes having pvcs even more scary..Recently tho i spoke with and electrophysician and he told me that certain channelopathies would have to exist (such as Brugada Syndrome) before you would actually go into sustained vfib or something. Hopefully that gives you peace of mind when experiencing the pvcs.

    So I’m 54 and I’ve had these ectopics since I can remember. And I mean since I was 3 or 4 years old. In my 20’s I developed Atrial Fibrillation. I’ve since had difficult times resulting in a PVI ablation. Things are irregularly settled now at the moment anyway.
    Looking back, I can see where I could have helped myself. Alcohol, intense exercise, steroid use as a bodybuilder, excessive running and cardio at a heavier average weight; I did a 10k in 40 minutes at over 16 stone. All these things didn’t help me at all. My son who is 33 has just started to get these same issues and I’m hoping he can find a trigger to try to calm things down.
    Good work Dr. I had a very good EP too myself, Dr Peter O’ Callaghan in the UHW, Cardiff. Great guy and great character.

    Thank you very much for the clear interpretations in all your videos. This one in particular truly gives me an answer as to why I keep on feeling this discomfort inside my chest. The nearly empty beat followed by a fuller, stronger contraction with more blood. Like a feeling of being hit with a ball in the chest. When I'm laying down in bed, I often get an ectopic beat every 2 beats, and that can last for sometimes 20 minutes or until I fall asleep.

      Same with me what you describe! Been to Cardiologist, did all the tests and he said don't worry. What I did is started to exercise. I run at least 3-4 times a week for 30-45 minutes in a moderate pace. I also bike and do weights. This helped to calm down my heart and I get a lot less PVCs. They are not gone still but a lot less.

    Thank you so much for this! I have had these for years and they feel like a horse kicked me in the chest. I sometimes feel the ache for up to 6 hours afterward, like my heart is bruised. I just went to the ER with a super bad one this morning, first time I actually went to the doctor over it, and with a heartrate of 120/70 or 113/65 usually, why would I? I had perfect everything. So I guess it's stress, which I can reduce consciously, and need for more grounding exercise, which I can easily increase. Thank you for this explanation for the pain! It really feels like a heart attack might feel, at least as we imagine it.

    This is the first person I run into that has addressed this issue adequately after 6 years since I had my first "heart pinch", at least that is what I call it. I can feel my heart making an abnormal accentuated contraction and this is accompanied with a sharp pinch(almost like a mild pin point electric buzz). It only lasts for as long as the contraction lasts(no more than a second) but it is sharp and despite the pain not being terribly uncomfortable it is highly disconcerting, puts me in panic mode.

I’ve actually caught some PACs before with my finger on my pulse, which confirmed what I already suspected: I get a semi-painful (horrible feeling) kind of “squeeze” feeling in my upper chest during the early beat, before the pause. So what I feel is the premature beat, not the best after the pause. Is this the same for you?

      @@Stacey_Hunter Oh wow, looks like YT just randomly decided to alert me that someone had replied to my comment a whole year later.
      In any case, I was quite alarmed when i first got it but now I've learned to at the very least stop myself from going into panic mode. It only happens periodically(particularly during stressful periods). I went from possibly one pinch every couple of hours(the first time) and this lasted for a few days, to a few pinches per hour(the second time about 4 years afterwards) this lasted to varying degrees for a month, to finally a few pinches per minute(the last time i got it, lasted a couple of weeks). With each successive period the pinches got less intense but more frequent, eventually all i got was what felt like an ectopic minus the pinch. I have not had any pinches/ectopics for more than 6 months and feel great.
      In any case after much research and little substantive information from doctors I narrowed it down to a few things. Diet is very important, acid reflux can exacerbate it(something to do with the vagus nerve), anxiety is a huge contributor(adequate quality sleep can mitigate this), magnesium seems to help(but note that too much can have the reverse effect so get the dosage right), plenty of exercise but go easy on the intensity(at least until you feel that you are strong enough to go harder), make sure you breathe in adequate oxygen(an oximeter can help monitor this) and be very mindful of your psychology(a strong mind leads to a strong body, and vice versa).
      Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, these are things i learned through research and experience, unfortunately in the absence of good advice from doctors. Do your own research to validate(or negate) anything I'v written and of course consult your GP before doing anything.

      @@damiankelly2642 Hey Damian, YT finally notified me a year later that people had replied to my comment. In any case I hope you've sorted this issue out by now. I've finally gotten a handle on it. At first it was quite a shock, might i say quite debilitating too because i never knew when it would hit again, it certainly felt like a precursor to a heart attack or that something was seriously wrong with my heart. The good thing is that it's not nearly as bad as I had thought, and a little bit of attention to nutrition, sleep, fitness and general health goes a very long way. Now I feel like a weight had been lifted off my chest and i can get back to being myself again rather than being crippled by fear and uncertainty. All the best!

I over did exercises last week and now paying for with more pvcs. I bought an ecg 12lead machine second hand and i can see the typical waves when they happen on the ecg screen.i decided no more intense exercises for me in the future.Dr. Does the pfizer booster increase pvc? So naturally my worried, anxious mind is telling me that my heart is injured and it scares the whiz out of me. Although this video is comforting, I'm left with this some questions; Why didn't these pvc's, pac's, etc ever hurt before? Is my heart sore? Damaged? Is it literally bleeding inside my chest? Thank you for all your info, I recommend it to everyone who has concerns. I have experienced ectopics for about 14 years and later SVT, last epidsode 220bpm needed adenosine. I'm not worried about my heart, learned to live with the ectopics. However I wondered if with very frequent ectopics which I have every day isn't there an impact from the 'missed/partial' beats ie if the heart is not filling/pumping much blood every few beats on and off for hours every day wouldn't that potentially cause eg cognitive impairment/fuzzy thinking, fatigue, exercise intolerance etc? The combination of this and the beta blocker for SVT seems to be causing me issues. Thanks.

  • @KennyEvansUK
    @KennyEvansUK 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I've had PVCs for 32 years, had umpteen checks, worn lots of holter monitors etc and all came back clear. I had an episode earlier in the year when the ectopic rhythm became the actual rhythm for about 20 minutes, so continuous PVC's. It finally snapped back into normal rhythm but nonetheless scared me a bit.
    I wanted to relay my painful ones in case it's relevant. It's always on the ectopic beat that there's pain, not as in your video. So the rhythm goes bom-bom, bom-bom, bom-bom, bomBOM......BOM. The pain is on the second BOM, then a gap then the big BOM as the 2 sides of the heart sync together to produce a forceful beat.
    It's not always painful though and after all these years I've never been able to find a cause of a trigger for sure. I've cut everything out of my diet for 4-6 weeks and nothing stopped or even lessened it. I've had beta blockers - they did nothing. There was a time for about 9 months some 5 years ago when it just stopped. One day I woke up and it didn't bump within a few minutes of waking as it usually does. It didn't do it one single time for the next 9 months and then suddenly returned with a vengeance despite nothing significant changing with my lifestyle. One other recent development is the triggering of quite sharp headaches in the base of my skull that coincide with the ectopic beat. Doesn't feel great but again it comes and goes without rhyme or reason. I have learned to live with them but it's still an unnerving and unsettling condition. Thanks for making the videos. Very insightful.
