Boy the Aussies really are in a bad place. I think the two games against the All Blacks will be two one sided hammerings.
Hopefully Joe can use that inside knowledge of the ABs to make it close-ish aye.... although he was working with Fozzie's ABs, not Razor's
In my opinion Joe must have balls of steel to have taken the job in the first place..He just took over a dumpster fire...The problem is the higher ups in Australian rugby...I almost feel sorry for them now having to face a AB backlash next..
@@sakabula2357i really hope he gets it right im a bok supporter but i also dont enjoy teams falling of the wagon 😂 it would be nice to have the smaller nations play more aswell
@@7seven243 Saffa as well..sad to see Australian rugby like this..and now they have to face a pissed off AB team...and next year it's the BIL tour..and I guess that BIL team will be mostly made up of Irish players..wonder if Joe will still be around for that
Then they head to the northern hemisphere for more points to be removed. Oh my.
Hey as you were (rightfully) saying that the rankings don't have a practical application until the draw for the next world cup, I was thinking: in test cricket, you have this golden mace trophy that used to be awarded to the top ranked side. I think that could be a cool addition to rugby, if you have a trophy like that, that is held by the #1 team and then changes hands when someone overtakes them.
You can even have that be a traveling trophy, and on display at every match they play.
Yeah apart from RWC seeding there's not much to play for aye - there is definitely room for something to add some spice!
Good idea.
Rankings seems spot on. In practical terms I don't think there's actually much between the top 5, but with a slight edge by South Africa maybe.
Top 3 I would say. Maybe include England.
France though, is an interesting case. They can be a very good team, but theimy never let their best players tour. So while I would back them against most teams when going to France, I won't put a lot of them when traveling.
@@randomlyfactual1943 yeah they got beaten by Argentina when they were away, although I get the impression Argentina is better now than people realise, even if they aren't consistent. Yeah include England as well, they narrowly missed out on making the RWC final and narrowly lost to AB's in their own turf.
@@benrobinson375 I think all doubts have been erased last Saturday! Argentina are a serious threat and on any given day they can - and has - beat the very best.
Wallabies need a Jake White character as coach to get discipline and fight back in the team. I realise players don’t like how strict he is or how hard he pushes, but Wallabies really need some grit right now.
Joe Smit is a good coach, and overall a decent bloke. But I agree, he’s not the personality type to take a dumpster fire and turn it into something great. But he’s got a young squad, and might I say some good players. He just needs to instill some grit in them to build confidence, where I agree a Jake White would be great for that role
@@liamferreira8912 I guess that could also come from the assistant coaches he selects. It would be a shame to lose someone like Schmidt, who I really think should be AB coach
Scott Mathie, currently coaching New England free jacks
They've won back to back MLR comps
3 in the last 4 years and 1 2nd place in the same period 😮
Someone like Michael Cheika maybe?
From an Irish perspective, the no. 1 spot isn't worth a bucket of warm spit😅.
Have to say the rankings are pretty spot on imo
Didn't Ireland win the series in NZ with a host of injuries to their first team players?
@portorportor82What a load of rubbish
Thanks Mark. Thought we'd take more points off AB'S.
Yeah I think the home advantage limited the exchange aye
Frikkin Wallabies choked again ... Even 6th position seems very hard to attain at present 😬
Yeah one step forward....
Watched the Japanese/ Canadian game; the Japanese attack looked like a precision drill team.
They suck no way there a tier 1 team. Sitting 14th in the world
Yeah man some very slick moves, Riley had a blinder
they are very good on attack they've been good for a while but their tight 5 is not quite good enough at doing the grindy stuff
Go EDDIE...your the man
Japan's rugby is a lie.
When they play without foreign players, we will see their true level.
The japan us game was enjoyable. Japan still have that spicy attack tempo theyve had since 2019 and its great to watch. Would be unreal if they won the pacific cup.
Yeah man after a lackluster July they're starting to click now (albeit against lower ranked opponents)
Are Wales the team that have changed the most considering they have been Ranked 1st and now out of the top 10?
Sad to see the Aussies and Wales in such a bad place.
Believe me, we don’t want #1 spot! 🇮🇪 anywhere in the top 6 is just fine. Semi finals here we come💪🏾
@@MarcelAspenite I’m convinced that the year Ireland win a quarter is the year they win the World Cup. No one will stop them once they’ve got that monkey off their backs!
Seedings will be set November 2025 for the next Rugby World Cup with the draw in January 2026.
Ah nice! I didn't know when they'd be set! Makes sense
No coach can save the Wallabies, they have a really big problem and its a losing acceptance problem, they just take a loss as if its ok to lose.
I'd give Joey 3 years to sort out Aussie rugby, especially with another empty bledisloe year on the horizon against his native NZ.
I mean a lot of the problems are pretty deep cut with the fact RA doesn’t have as much dollar as other rugby unions. Also talent wise yes we get some talent coming through buts it’s a lot more few and far between than other nations like SA, NZ and England. That’s only two of a seemingly endless number of problems tbh. I think Joey will do a good job (at least with what he has) but it’s probably a long long while until we truly can get to top 3 level
@@hughstark4882 If only RA invested more into the grassroots system to avoid losing out to League and AFL, especially when ambitious expansions to WA and VIC (now defunct Rebels) took it's toll on strained talent.
But anyways, the Wallabies IMO were stronger with 3 teams only although 4 should at least be decent despite the long recovery to greatness.
I think if the Aussie get something else than a hammering it will be conclusive proof that miracles are real.
Love your content mate! Always very unbiased reviews of matches, despite being a diehard supporter yourself. Mark, see that you've documented your travels in China, but when are you coming over to visit South Africa?
P.S.
If you need a place to crash - it's not the fanciest accommodation, but there's a free spare bedroom in Cape Town for you (and the missus?) to use as a base camp should you want to.
Cheers!
Ah man far too kind! Yeah of these days will make my way over there!
"The Aussies can overtake Italy if they were to get a win over Razor's boys"
😂😂😂 Good one.
Yeah it's a big 'ol if that one.... but Arg beat NZ, Aus beat Arg... maybe, maybe?
@@TwoCentsRugby anything is possible but unfortunately for Australia losing has become a habit not to mention that moral crushing defeat at the hands of the Pumas.
When you are down and out like the Aussies are, I'd reckon the last team you would want to face other than the Springboks is an AB side who will be looking take their frustrations out on you.
Thanks Two Cents
Mark could you explain what's going on with Aussie rugby ? Is it all down to Eddie or is Union being replaced by league and Aussie rules
On a different note it would be interesting to see a comparison of your board now to previous years . The southern hemisphere no longer rules supreme !
Union was never competition for league, and not even in the same stratosphere as AFL
Yeah it definitely goes deeper than just Eddie sadly
Have Australia ever dropped to 10th? 2 games against the all blacks and Fiji in action, they could easily drop to 10th within the next 3 weeks 🤯
They can only lose points in their home game. So would be unlikely that they go to 10th
Yeah they've been 10th... but no lower than that
Por lo visto en este 2024, entre el RCh y el 6N, para mi la cosa es asi: 1- Sudafrica, 2- Irlanda 3- Francia 4- NZ, 5- Argentina 6- Inglaterra, 7- Escocia, 8- Fiji, 9- Australia, 10-- Italia, 11- Gales, 12- Japón, 13- Georgia, 14- Samoa.
If Argentina can play like last weekend consistently, they will be Top 4 permanently, no question. But maybe they still lack a little in squad depth to keep that level up every game.
Italy had a good 6N but they also struggle with consistency. When they are at their best, they can make 6th/7th place but we also expect Italy to falter.
Fiji is an interesting one and they will think that they can take Australia on.
I wonder if the ranking would better going up to at least 24 maybe the next few as well as they might qualify for the next rwc?
Mr Stats...What is the highest score any team ever had on the world rankings?
The ABs got to 96.57 in 2016, and the 2nd highest is the Boks earlier this year at 94.86. But both of those are off the back of winning at the RWC when points get doubled and teams generally play "away" from home which is true for all but the host country so it gets a little distorted.
Clearly there is something wrong with the rankings formula if Boks can lose no 1 spot by losing 1 game after winning the last 4 especially when Ireland have done nothing to earn it. Just seems flawed to, really. Its not a true reflection of the what has happened in the last few months. if a team is so far ahead of the rest in terms of points they should not be penalised for it, that is obviously the flaw and needs looking into. That rule does nothing but obscure the true refledction of the the teams. I wonder sometimes what intelligence goes into the making of rules and laws sometimes
Incorrect. Ireland are there because they won the last 6N’s(only losing to England)and a grand slam a year before that. They also beat France away this year by a considerable margin. They also beat SA away last match. They totally deserve to be there. I think you know little about how the rankings work.
With the way the home advantage works, England women picked up no points for beating France at home at the weekend. I don’t think they can get any points even if they beat NZ at home next week
Yeah they have even more points than that 2015/16 NZ men's side....
I can foresee the ABs ending the year at 5 or 6
England, Ireland and France away will definitely be tough games
I can't remember when the draw will be, so the key is to remain in the top 6 for the next 2 years?
Can we then assume top 12 in rankings are automatic qualifiers? Damn... I need to go find the video explaining the draw for 2027. can you link that one for us too Mark?
Ah yeah man World Rugby has a whole flow chart thing 😅
It's still hard to see ABs sitting 3rd. As I Saffa, I've been enjoying the "We're officially the best bandwagon."
But I still find myself thinking ABs are better at times just cause of their historic dominance...
🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Long time no see mate. Love the threads here. 14 is a bit silly, but hey, world rankings.Meh.
I will go to Hanazono to see the 3rd place match and final match for PNC on Sept 21. Can't wait.
Yeah man Japan getting to face tougher sides has meant a drop in ranks aye! PNC conclusion gonna be big!
@@TwoCentsRugby More that they're in a huge rebuilding phase where immediate results are nothing compared to being ready for RWC27. It's not ideal that we do that, but a lot of sides ultimately do. It gives EJ the perfect excuses anyway.
LosPumas must win 2 game's against South Africa with 50 point's .. That can't happen to my boks😂😂
Probably won’t happen but we need to make a statement and beat Argentina convincingly.
At the minute, the Aussies are not looking great. I think NZ will win both fairly easily. Will be a good chance for Razor to test out some combinations, see who plays in the best spots and if it's effective.
USA letting me down 😭
Need a miracle vs Fiji
Yeah gonna be a tough ask!
When is the USA going to front a team for one of the comps like Super Rugby or Northern Hemisphere competitions…
@@kentweyand6347 Hawaiian team in SR would work logistics wise
Brilliant!! That is a fantastic idea! Pre-season training on the west coast then base the team in Hawaii…home games can rotate perhaps… attendance might be pretty good
@@Samizouzabrilliant idea!!
A lot of focus on Aussie in the comments, but oof, look at Wales. That's gotta hurt.
You mentioned the 6 pools in the new RWC. When does it get drawn?
Yeah I think the draw is January 2026 (so a lot closer this time)
@@TwoCentsRugby that's better then! Because I'll be so disappointed if Wales have Australia and Georgia in the group again 😂
Sneaking round China.
Check out Burbex , to see some more of that.
Great channels, this one and Brin's Burbex .
still dont understand how the boks will move to second with any game they can lose
So the rule is this: you don't take points off anyone ranked 10 points lower.
Ireland took points off most their 6N games (except for the loss to England and Italy because they are ranked much lower) but South Africa played Wales where we got no points, Portugal where we got no points and Australia where we got no points.
So from the rankings perspective, we've only played four matches after the world cup and we've won three.
Yeah with SA so far ahead of Argentina, they'd drop a lot with a loss - I guess because according to the rankings it's a game they should win
Take a math course, it's really not that complicated.
When will you and Wildkard do a crossover?
I get the maths of the rankings but I struggle to see how Scotland are at 6 when they are so consistently rubbish.
That’s the point. Scotland are INCONSISTENTLY rubbish.
They have some great games (mostly against England) and then throw away matches they should win (France).
Yeah they're weird. Can't beat NZ or Ireland. Have a better record than most against France and England over the last few years. Pretty sure they beat Argentina the last time they played etc
When is the rwc draw?
I don't think they've set the date yet, but early 2026 I believe
How many teams in the next WC? Can team like Switzerland qualify?
@@ConservativeCapitalist 24 I believe with 6 pools. Switzerland could qualify though I don't know exactly what the qualifications for them are
@@ConservativeCapitalist24 teams and looking at the current rankings, we are almost sure to see teams like the Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, Switzerland and Hong Kong
The rankings are a bit unfair towards NZ I think. Two narrow losses in South Africa, but 5 points behind the Boks! Surely they should have more?
No, if you go look at the end of the world cup, because you get double points and Ireland played the 6 nations as well the points is fair based off how that system works. The All blacks also lost big points in the Argentinian loss.
You don't get any points for narrow losses.
@@Camcolitoit would be nice though like getting a bonus point if you lose within 7
@@x-latetv-x6816 Possibly, but I think the rankings are still pretty accurate without it.
This point system is a joke, the boks keep on winning but 93% is where they stay makes me think how did nz get to 96% if you can't take points against teams you beat...
Rugby needs more competitive teams for growth and current teams like the aussies slipping doesnt help
Hope it gets better
Yeah some of the decisions up seem to be more geared towards getting the top sides playing each other more than expanding the game
@@TwoCentsRugbywhould like to see the smaller nations join TRC
Hope Tony's TV survived the game... 😆
It looked ok yesterday 😅
Enlighten me as to what actually happened seen as it's banter 😂
How are Wales so low
Something like 9 losses in a row now I think has eaten away at their ranking
Because they are bad at rugby.
View number 1
I think League is hurting the wallabies. The pool to choose from is dwindling.
Yeah a lot more NRL teams than Aussie Super Rugby teams
How are we 3rd in the world we are playing more like 5th or 6th in the world what a joke
If we keep losing, we'll drop 😅
Hey cmon, you didn’t lose to SA by that much.
As a saffa. Nz were not nearly as bad as made out to be. Will be strong in WC. Irish on their way down....sorry boys
Didn't Ireland beat you at home .. missing half their team ?
Ireland are playing NZ at home soon! 😅
True, but momentum shifting. Nz will be very good
With a little work Australia can jump.3 positions
XXX
It’s hard to be the best in the world 😭
"Number 1 spot for what its worth", it annoys the hell of the South Africans that's what its worth.
Fiji has the possibility to pass Australia
Give it a year and Japan might too😏
I don't actually think I've ever seen you without a hat? 🤔
What do you think he is hiding under there? 🤔
No hat: th-cam.com/video/s3my0fqPkbU/w-d-xo.html 😅
The Boks should just stop playing. Let everybody catch up. Perhaps we could become rugby ambassadors, just travel around the world putting on clinics, passing on our superior rugby knowledge. As the spiritual guardians of rugby union I think it is our duty.
*Edit - it appears I've touched a sensitive nerve amongst the AB supporters, and even the Irish have turned up too. Look, at the end of the day there is nothing wrong with 2nd and 3rd place. Who knows, maybe one day Ireland will progress past the quarter final stages of a world cup, and maybe the ABs will be able to make the public proud of the Jersey again. It's probably just a case of needing to remind the public, repeatedly, about how good they were way back in the day.
Windgat.
Friendly fire, friendly fire.
Arrogant. It’ll be a big bump to some people’s narrow mindedness if Argentina knock SA over.
@@bg365South Africa is the rising tide that raises all ships. For us to lose to Argentina would bring tears of joy, we only wish for others to be as good as us, and if losing means giving other nations hope, well I'm all for it 👍
Ahh, enjoy the jokes around the braai while it lasts boys.
System is a crock of shit.
Why, my friend?
That number one spot is Ireland's world cup trophy They obviously want it back😂😂😂
I was just typing in my comment that maybe there could be a trophy like they used to have in test cricket? It's a made made out of gold, which used to be held by the #1 test side.
Trophy changes hands when someone else ascends to top spot.
Nah. Not really a special way to achieve #1 status, by default. Much prefer if it's earned.
@@Coreylahey1000 I would of course argue that it would be earned. Yeah, you would have done your earning earlier in the year, but definitely did earn it with a great 6N campaign and going 1-1 with the world champs on home soil.
On a tangent, I think rugby's biggest problem is poor marketing and exposure and maybe if we made a bigger deal out of the #1 spot it could help the sport a little
Australian rugby is dead and buried. No pathways, no talent no incentives and absolutely shocking administration. No one wants to play rugby in this country why would you when no one gives a shit and you could play in the NRL as a bench player and make more than any of the top players in rugby.
Argentinian fan here. I commented the same on another channel. I must say this rankings never reflect reality accuratelly. I mean.. is Italy really above Australia? Same happens with fútbol. One of the recent examples is Belgium. Belgium leadered the FIFA ranking (above Argentina and France) from 2015 to 2018.. but they've never win a single title, and they never trully were the N°1 fútbol team in the World.
